In the short term? No idea how effective it will be. Look over what happened with Australia, I guess.
Long term, as the gun concentration goes down, more and more get confiscated after being used in crime it gets harder and harder for criminals to get their hands on them.

Actually, I just had a strange though. Ban the sale of new guns, effective immediately. It will ultimately concentrate the weapons in the hands of the "law abiding" citizens, because they'll never be used for crime and confiscated. (Because, again, the citizens are law-abiding.) It will get harder and harder for criminals to get their hands on weapons over time, but all the citizens will still have their boomsticks left over. (Assuming they didn't try to rob a bank or something. ^_^)

It could use some refinement, but it's not taking away your rights, at least not as I see it.

Limiting a magazine to a certain arbitrary number doesn't stop anything. You do realize that the same amount of rounds can be shot out of a firearm, in the same relative amount of time using either a 16 round mag, or (2) 8 round mags.

I bet you think Gun Free Zones stop shootings as well.

yea i know reload time is extremely quick. im trying to give a solution to how much a murderer can fire. maybe limit the number of mags a person can own. still i see a lot of nay saying but no solutions to reduce homicide and mass murderers. i dont think gun free zones solve anything unless its a building or a public area where everyone is frisked.

if we can know how many cars a person owns why cant we also know how many mags they also own? we seem to have stricter car laws than gun laws and in my opinion guns are more dangerous than cars, and pools for that matter, even if some say otherwise.

And no, the Govt does not know the amount of vehicles one has. They know about the vehicles they force people to register to operate on public streets.

i wouldnt call homicides irrational fears. i dont agree that purchasing a weapon that can kill a large number of people quickly is a good thing. if i wanted to protect myself in public or at home id buy a handgun. if the government can know how many cars are in use why cant they also know how many guns there are in circulation, etc etc. as far as i can tell there is no reason the government cant keep track of what guns ammo and mags are sold and where and who owns what.

its not a knee jerk reaction its about decreasing the number of homicides.

The 2nd Amendment spells out exactly what is covered for the Rights of the individual regarding firearms.

There is no Right called out regarding vehicles.
