What You Should Know About Satanism

Before the beginning, Jesus "The WORD" Christ would hoover up anomalies, smooth out the problem areas, and shunt the remainder off into a pocket dimension called HELL. The WORD did this by doing what words literally do, which is to categorize & organize thoughts, people, places & things. Usually within a binary context as dictated by The Father, as in, "accept me as your Lord & Savior or go to Hell."

For instance, in the "Yod He Vav He" & "The Living Creatures" conception of God being fourfold--two of the aspects are Female and two are Male. Ironically, "The Father" is also "Female" along with Satan, only The Son (The Word) & Humanity are "Male."

There are so many spiritual paths with a Satanic theme or object of worship that I can't really see settling the question of what a Satanist is without writing an entire book. maybe two or three.

Naw, you dont need a series of books.

The Church of Satan - Cult of personality. Strange admiration for carnie. Defined Satanism as a personality type. Professed atheists with a bizarre and common agnostic exception made for black magic. Consider themselve's the official voice of Satanism.

The Temple of Set - The musings of a pedantic liar with creepy eyebrows. Mikey Aquino left the Church of Satan in 1975 for not acknowldeging his theistic take and tried to reinvent Aleister Crowley's Book IV by talking to the voices in his head in a Beach Cottage. Later modelling his afterlife views after ascension in Stargate SG-1. Turned into a rambling Grandpa character telling outlandish stories online.

The Satanic Temple - The Pastafarians vs. The Kansas State Board of Education as a church.

Luciferianism - Fluffy Satan. Lucy-fairy-ins. Lucy-fur stole individuality from god and gave it the masses. Could be considered "Neo-promethean".

Thesitic Satanism (Specifically Joy of Satan Ministries) - Inverted Jesus freaks with 'golem' that they call Father Satan, or Lord Satan. Lots of belief in personal relationships with Satan. Also a lot of Ancient Aliens Master race crap too. Satan becomes a Sumerian and also Aryan god from The Pleiades that mindf***s it's adherent with gematria and everything occultnik.

Thelema - They follow something set up by a wife beating heroin addict that used "love under will" to justify being an irresponsible histrionic fruitcake.

IMO everything beneficial in Thelema can also be found in Jung. Just swap out the shadow with something called the abyss and there you go. And also be sure to muddle up that process of self-realization and true will with a bunch of abstract and esoteric nonsense that usually ends in existential oroboros.

Satanism was first established in 1966 by Anton Szandor LaVey from his home in San Francisco. LaVey had been a circus performer for many years before settling in San Francisco and devoting himself to the study of magic and the occult. In 1969 he released The Satanic Bible, followed by The Satanic Witch in 1971, and Satanic Rituals in 1972. Despite how those titles may sound, they aren't how-to guides for black magic or devil worship. Rather, they lay the framework for a religion that is based on worship of one's self, with rituals thrown in for a bit of added drama. From Time Magazine:

The members invest themselves with some of the most flamboyant trappings of occultism, but magic for them is mostly psychodrama —or plain old carnival hokum. They invoke Satan not as a supernatural being, but as a symbol of man’s self-gratifying ego, which is what they really worship. The biggest take-away from what Satanism really is, is that Satanists do not worship Satan. They don't even believe he exists. Satan is used more as a symbol of Satanists' place outside of the boundaries of traditional religion, their rebellion against rigidity, and their distaste for the supernatural. In fact, Satanists largely believe that religion can and should be separated from supernatural beliefs, as a religion should provide the framework for how to live a moral life with community and culture divorced from traditional superstitions. Their faith is in the tangible world, a materialistic view rooted in science and critical thinking. According to the Satanic Temple:

To embrace the name Satan is to embrace rational inquiry removed from supernaturalism and archaic tradition-based superstitions.
