I'd heard of this before both here and elsewhere, but had only seen printed transcripts of what the astronauts of Apollo 10 were saying to each other while they traversed the far side of the moon and were therefore completely out of radio/radar range of earth.

While skimming some news articles today I saw this clip that seems to have the actual recordings of what they heard as well as the comments the astronauts were making to each other during their one hour trip around Farside.

Pretty cool stuff....

If this is old news to some, apologies in advance.

Are you sure that that sound you hear in the clip is the actual "music" the astronauts heard? It doesn't actually say it is.

No, I'm not - which is why I said "seems to have".

But they do show video of the astronauts saying it was "outer space" music so I assume the audio is from that same feed, but I don't know.

I could be wrong but It seems to me like it was added for effect. I would love to hear the actual "music" though.

Nasa claims they encountered the same noise/interference during the Cassini mission to Saturn.

"These are caused by charged particles moving through Saturn's magnetic environment "

-According to Saul's doppelganger(Kevin Grazier)

The astronauts don't agree though.

...Waiting for Giorgio Tsoukalos...

Two radios interfering with each other? Please.

The same sounds were recorded by Cassini at Saturn, so there has to be another explanation.

Just background space noise I guess, I would never have called it "music", noise is the best description for it

We don't call static interference music, so why would we choose to call this music as opposed noise ?

**SNIP**

Huff Post author writes, "The conversation between the three astronauts indicated they heard sounds like they had never heard before:"

He doesn't tell you that the astronauts were in TWO SEPARATE SPACESHIPS trying out their VHF comm link. And that similar woo-woo sounds were heard on later missions whenever the LM VHF radio was powered up.

Tsk tsk.
Michael Collins in ‘Carrying the Fire’ [1976].
Chapter 13, Page 420 (or there abouts depending on the edition of the book).:
There is a strange noise in my headset now, an eerie woo-woo sound. Had I not been warned about it, it would have scared the hell out of me. Stafford's Apollo 10 crew had first heard it, during their practice rendezvous around the Moon. Alone on the back side, they were more than a little surprised to hear a noise that John Young in the Command Module and Stafford in the LM each denied making. They gingerly mentioned it in their debriefing sessions, but fortunately the radio technicians (rather than the UFO fans) had a ready explanation for it: it was interference between the LM's and Command Module's VHF radios. We heard it yesterday when we turned our VHF radios on after separating the two vehicles, and Neil said that it 'sounds like wind whipping around the trees.' It stopped as soon as the LM got on the ground, and started up again just a short time ago. A strange noise in a strange place.

You know, You're in the habit of being nasty to people because of your position. It isn't very attractive.

If it's two radios interacting then why is the same sound heard by Cassini at Saturn?

That explanation makes sense.
When I saw this on the Huffington Post last night, I figured there would be a thread about it here and I hoped that you would have some info regarding the story.

Anything classified should be illegal.

Especially when tax payers paid for most of the trips.

This incident will be included along with other incidents on the 2nd season opener of "Nasa's Unexplained Files," on the Science Channel. I believe the program is this Tuesday Night. Just checked. It is. Look forward to it.

I firmly believe we went to the moon. I was one of the little kids who watched Neil Armstrong step down in the surface.

See, I said that without being snarky. You should not assume everyone is against you.

I admit I am not an expert, but I'd appreciate it if you, as an expert, remained civil towards me.

The music of the spheres...
The video is dramatized though...wish we could know for sure that that was the actual recording.
