Ahhh the beauty of Liberalism.

When you get so screwed with poverty, make an outdoor TOILET for all to see and enjoy.

Walking my 7 year old daughter down the street:

"Daddy what's that man doing, I see his peepee, and why is he talking to himself and throwing up at the same time?"

Beautiful stuff. San Francisco is now like India. Amazing. We're getting all the BENEFITS! Who doesn't want to see grown men and drug addicts and bums pee in public. Now sanctioned by the city.

This is so "Progressive". I love it. Will we be erecting public shooting galleries for junkies next?

I feel it coming......

I see the problem here...liberal city, an innovation and people are bound to criticize it, no matter what it is. Try to veil it all you want...that is the reason.

Why do you see this as "an innovation"...when it's what people did in the streets back in the cholera and plague-ridden Middle Ages?

The city is providing a maintained open area.

To keep people/men from whipping it out on your house or front yard.

I'm a man.

The WORLD is my urinal.

EDIT: Until the police arrest me for public indecency. What? I was just spelling my name in the snow officer, geeze...

Oh okay, A drunk homeless person is going to NOT pee on my lawns or any other property because he knows a couple blocks away is that little curtainless shower ring thingy that stinks like 500 other people....

Totally. This is so progressive. Instead of 'whipping it out' in a more private location, do it all on a busy street.

YAY...."Progressives" (Regressives)

Do you not get the jail for urinating in a public place over there? Or at least receive an on the spot fine?

No, we're humans. And all humans have to pee.

Some humans are homeless. They have to pee too.

Some humans are mentally ill and on the street. They have to pee too.

Maybe God shoulda made humans with an "on/off" switch - - - but, God didn't.

Do you take your child to homeless shelters or soup kitchens - - - to teach your child not everyone is the same?

Do you teach your child about poverty and the mentally ill?

My granddaughter was 7 when she did her first stint on Thanksgiving for the homeless.

In some places, you can actually get 'indecent exposure' or 'public lewdness'...and tagged for life and put in a database and have to register as a sex criminal. Depends on if the judge is being nice that day, or the cops want to make a quota.

ETA: Correction..in EVERY State...as it stands

Cool story. Did you teach her that naked men are okay to approach?

San Francisco is a very old sea-port city. Its very hilly and houses are built on small lots practically on top of each other.

As with most west coast coastal cities, the weather is moderate, and you can sleep on the beaches. An area that attracts the homeless.

Enforcing public urinating in this type city is almost impossible. That's why the city did what it did.

They've tried to come up with a solution that is specific to the problem.

Humans are animals with natural bodily functions.

We really should get over ourselves.

Maintained facilities (whether indoor or outdoor) that keep these bodily functions in one place - - - works for me.

In my part of the world yes, it seems it never happens though, never recall a police log of public urination been indecent exposures though these were some of the pervies exposing to women or kids.

I think people around here may do it in the dark, on a stretch of lonely beach, definitely over the side of the boat (not in viewing distance of other humans) but not out in the park!

Why not add public masturbation?

Since we're all 'animals'?

I don't see this as an advancement of any kind.

SF has always been one big toilet.

Don't get me wrong buddy, as long as there are no wanes is sight or wee old lady's out walking there dog, or where anybody can plainly see you, needs must.

That being said its rather a strange convenience to find right out in the open next to a train station.
