He did say "paid"...

None of the apostles were paid to spread his message... And in this time in anyone wants to find it, well...

There more copies of the bible then any other book in existence... Its there for all to read

Not all preachers take tithes, but only what the congregation will offer.

The bible is pretty wide spread, but not everyone can understand from simply reading it, hence all the denominations.

And just because you study under a preacher, doesnt mean you have to agree with him 100%.

Perhaps but all preachers are paid in some way or the other...

Even though Jesus said specifically... "Freely what you've received... freely give"

Try living in America without money. You won't get far, and people are unlikely to help you. That doesn't make it right, but just because a preacher earns a pay check doesn't make it evil.

Demanding Tithes is evil. Tithing doesn't belong in church.

Good point... See we agree on some things

In any case, Its not that its evil, but getting a paycheck for preaching isn't what Jesus said... quite the opposite

This doesn't mean a preacher couldn't have a real job, just as Punisher said his pastor does...

The pastors around here are very well paid without an actual job

Well actually I don't have a Pastor, The guy who married me and my wife was my parents pastor. I have not attended a Church Service in a long long time.

(Just for accuracy)

From my understanding his father was actually pretty orthodox in his beliefs.

There are already quite a few rebuttals already, but I wanted to mention one thing about the divorce teaching.

A common thing that Pharisees and rich men did back then was divorce their wife when she got older and remarry a younger, more attractive woman. And when she was older they would do it again.

Jesus said this was an abomination, and for good reason.

Only way you can call yourself a Christian, is when you find salvation trough Christ and Christ alone.. Thats it, nothing to elaborate..

Yep its a good song. LOL

In case you dont know the lyrics are,

Mr. preacher on the t.v. screen
tells me that he knows just what I need
he's "been there before...and back again"
but with that fancy suit I find it hard to believe
he says the Lord will be so faithful, that he'll protect
but only if I'm faithful with my monthly check
I've never sent him my money
probably never will
(oooo!) I guess that means I live
my life on the edge, Oh well.

preacher
your time will come
you lead the church astray
for a steady income
you can bet
God won't forget
but if you'd like
I'd (gladly!) tie a millstone
around your neck (matt. 18:6)

his nothingness on a simple throne
(Christ mediates for God, and Christ alone!)
just another man in a ridiculous hat
held accountable for the seeds he's sown
cancel the tours and the material things
the people bowing to you and kissing your rings
guide them only to their knees
seeking forgiveness today
cast no doubt as to what they need

pope john
your time will come
you lead the church astray
for a steady income
you can bet
God won't forget
but if you'd like
I'd (gladly!) tie a millstone
around your neck (matt. 18:6)

Yeah, I understand. A preacher teaching from the KJV should not draw a paycheck (and simply should not be preaching IMO). But my pastor was a scholar in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. He spent thousands of hours fixing what the KJV and Textus Receptus skrewed up, and never asked for a dime. People gave to keep him going. IMO, a preacher that doesnt take the time to learn the languages of the old manuscripts should not be preaching.

a reply to: BELIEVERpriestI'll conceed to that if one is a true scholar in Judaism and the new testament they can speak on it and have the authority to preach if they believe. But not for money.

In that, we agree. The teaching of the Word of God should always be free.

However, the best of our translated Bibles (NASB IMO) are so full of errors and mistranslations that its embarrassing. That fact alone requires a thoroughly educated teacher to properly communicate the word of God.

If you're teaching yourself from a translation, then you're missing out on so much.
