No, the purpose of the OP is to express how no one can know reality, and then he wrongfully assumes that intelligence is the only thing that can determine what reality is.

It's doesn't matter how intelligent one individual may or may not be;
as a general principle anyway.

Iv'e never had my IQ tested myself, but I was offered to skip two
grades in school and never did any homework. But you'll find
that this is the first time I've ever mentioned my IQ. Bandying
about a number in an attempt to put people down so that they
will listen to one's drivel is really pathetic.

Content must stand on it's own merits, not be pushed due to an
appeal to authority logical fallacy, like they do with religion.

Humanity is a distributed, networked (via society) analog
computer.. so the intelligence and creativity of humanity
as a whole is the most important thing..

not any one individual.

What would be even more important, would be anyone who
could help humans work together better.. to tap their group
potential..

People who bandy about their "IQ", but accomplish nothing
are not valuable to society.

If one is truly intelligent, and hopefully creative, then the proof
of the pudding would be in the eating (Samuel Clemens)
not in the boasting.

Maybe they give you strange looks because of that horned,
tin-foil helmet that you wear.

Just a thought.

Please read the whole thread before commenting just in case I don't mean what you think I mean

Lets get the obvious out of the way, I don't look down on mentally slow people, for example I've been volunteering with autistic society for years. I know that smart or stupid is not a choice

To answer your question, I was out of school before the calculator dependency was promoted. Besides that, I never liked math at all. It doesn't move me. You probably are my superior in many ways but...

I have a question. Have you ever had the opportunity to take persons with autism to visit with dolphins?

Someone once said that IQ might be simply an "equation illusion".
So if you are better at math you might formulate a more complex equation to quantify it?

Is infinity odd or even can everything ultimately be explained in base 2 or base 47?

But we can't assume who is and who isn't autistic
via an Internet chat board.

You do realize someone with a high IQ and low EQ happens irrespective of being on the spectrum, right? I read the individual through the OP, and made the statement. Didn't mention anything about autism until you brought it up.

This is a pretty ballsy thread for ATS. lol

I'm sure you have already had your butt handed to you in so many ways already so, I'll just gracefully excuse myself.

LOL

I'll take my mere 130 IQ and go home....please forgive me oh Superior One.

Man! I'm always late to the party!

Our resident genius has already tucked tail and ran before I even read all the posts.

I'm gonna go practice my maths without a calculator now....bills to pay and all.

I can make heat without relying on energy companies, with a few things I can find very close to hand. Generally only a little slower than turning on central heating.

This does not mean I am superior than those who cannot and thus rely on electrical or gas power. It just means I took time to learn a much obsolete skill. Obviously maths is a little more useful in certain settings, but why so, when everyone I know in the west has a calculator in their pocket?

Sure, sometimes they will be caught without, just as people are caught in the cold without means to heat themselves.

Sure, I get what you're saying. However, when we rely on technology to do even the simplest tasks we are not exercising our brain and this hurts us as we get older.

There's a saying from FitBrain: Use it so you don't lose it.

Doing math without a calculator is nothing to brag about it is a talent you may have. Maybe I am superior to you because I do not have to brag about myself, and I may have talents you do not have.

A valid point. But I expect the dayglo lime-green mankini is more of a conversation piece.

Especially when I "accidentally" drop my pen. That's right ladies - I'm winking at you.

Sir, I do not doubt that you are intelligent. But are you really going to come onto a site like ats and tell everybody you're smarter than them because you can do math without a calculator? Do you have any idea how arrogant that is? It seems to me like you are getting yourself stuck on an ego trip. Let it go, friend. I can tell you that if you think you have all the answers, you are in reality, very far from them indeed. a reply to: VanGcouverite
