Evolution cannot be threatened by outside factors. Evolution happens regardless of what factors influence it. It also isn't directional. Humans will continue to evolve in whatever direction proves to be the most beneficial for the given traits in our population. There is no such thing as devolution. Or at least not what you are thinking. In order for devolution to happen, the next generation would have to have the traits of their parent's parents. Their kids would have to have the traits of the parent's parent's parents. And so on and so forth.

What you are thinking about, where each subsequent generation becomes dumber(?) isn't devolution. It's still evolution. The only difference is that outside indicators are aligning to make less intelligence have a higher survival rate than lower intelligence (which frankly hasn't occurred ever since rational thought remains the best adaptation that evolution has ever produced on this planet). Also, none of this would occur during your, your kids, your kid's kids, etc lifetimes since evolution takes millions of years to happen to any significant degree.

Raising and lowering of IQ has nothing to do with evolution and has always been variable throughout someone's lifetime.

So, I had to go read up on Putin before commenting.

He does not sound like a stupid man. There must be some Russians on ATS who have more insight.

Taking almost anything in the media as fact is "iffy". Taking something reported by someone, that says someone said . . . is "very iffy".

That said, I support vaccinations, think most of the GMO fear is unfounded hysteria.

Mother Nature is not really all that smart, but life will always find a way.

That's not how genetics works. When you eat an apple, do you give birth to apples?

The biggest danger of gmo is to human beings environment. When gmos find a way into a natural environment they can be envasive plant or animals.

The most probable mutation in actual humans would be in our guts if the bacteria and flora have trouble breaking down food that is modified.

Like crazyshot says our children will mutate regardless of gmos. The danger though is to the environment and food chain rather than genetic changes through eating.

I'm not a biologist either but I say with confidence that I know more about evolution than he does. Some species have remained unchanged for hundreds of millions of years such as the horseshoe crab or the Nautilus-they have lived through fluctuations in global water temperature an excessive salinity and yet they still exist.

Evolution is a long and lengthy process that could take a Millennia at the least and the singularity will occur long before we evolve. Nice try Putin.

Read up and search there have been many cases of fast change, personally I see them finding more and more "modern humans" farther and farther back. I am not a believer in the evolution as science dictates it. As you say many things have not changed at all despite changing environment, why.

There is no difference between GMO and telling people who's ancestors never ate Avacado that they should eat lots of it because it is high in Omega 3s. The plant defense chemistry of Avacados can cause a lot of problems for twenty percent of the population because they jumped into a new chemistry without appropriate genetic knowledge on how to process it.

Thank you. That's very interesting. This is similar to something else I've heard, except in terms of race; that indigenous healing plants make the best medicines for those native races. So, for example, Mexicans and Native Americans respond best to plant medicines indigenous to North America. And I've observed that within my own family... kinda sorta. Since my family isn't just one race, it's not exactly pure science. But there is that tendency I've noticed. I definitely like your use of genetics rather than race, but there would seem to be a corrolation either way.

You have it exactly wrong. I love Mother Russia and Russian culture. Russian blood courses through my veins. It is my love for Russia that makes me view Czar Vladimir with scorn and contempt. When I first saw him succeed Yeltsin, I was thrilled: a young man with some exposure to western ideas might help Russia find itself in the post Soviet era. Naïvely I thought he might usher in personal freedoms and functional, democratic institutions.

Needless to say, he turned out to be a disappointment. It is clear in retrospect that the KGB had been planning for the collapse of the USSR in the same way the SS planned for the fall of the Reich. The FSB bombed innocent Russians so that Putin could claim extraordinary executive powers to "combat terrorism." He murdered political opponents and journalists like Anna Politkovskaya, who dared to report the truth of the horrifying state of the Russian military.

Putin has inflicted more evils upon the Russian people than any dictator since Stalin. It pains me when I see people believing the toxic propaganda that is spewing out of his state controlled media.
