I can see the simplicity of your explanation, one would have to speculate that that would be a concern for the clean up producers to begin. We are talking about a world changing event.

if the caldera goes picking up chunks of uranium or plutonium would be pretty low priority. the other effects of the eruption would be so catastrophic that the immediate priority would be survival then relocation of tens of millions of Americans and burial or cremation of the dead then establishing order and food security and national security and clean up would probably start at the margins of the ash fall or clearing agricultural plots for indoor vertical farms and green houses before venturing into the interior.

Nods. There would definitely be a lot of work to do before things could even begin to take a form of normality again. I hope that as a whole (global community) we will be better prepared social then we are today for this event, when it occurs, again if that is anytime soon.

When I first jumped online in the late 1980's I read the same things about the yellowstone cauldera then.

If it's going to blow it's top off and cause several years of cooler temps from atmospheric dust, get on with it already!.

We have no more control over this than we have control of that volcano spewing lava in hawaii that is consuming a town.
