Is that depth correct. 10.0 Km.? Very shallow.

Its not much bigger but it sure is bright outside.
Caller on the radio said they saw green lights in the sky too, I didn't notice what colour they were, maybe it wasn't the transformers after all.

Well so far you're looking good for it appearing like a typical mainshock-aftershock sequence... But with that moon hanging around this time I wouldn't be so sure. Seriously hoping it's not a foreshock.

USGS just upgraded to 7.8!

PTWC had it at 7.9.

And I gotta say, I'd have to agree from what I am seeing on spectro worldwide. It was big and shallow.

Glad you're okay Muzzy!
I gave up on the news channels & switched to the Weather Channel. It was only a couple of minutes until they mentioned it. They said 7.8 with tsunami warnings & that people are moving inland. The US West Coast should be on the alert too.

I saw the uptick last night before I went to bed, in the Caribbean, South America, Alaska,Fiji...
Wondered if something was building, but didn't think N.Z. Our niece was born & raised there. Still has family there. I wish the news channels would stop with the protester @a$% & cover something else!

No it was not caused by the moon. It was a coincidence.
