It should not be offensive it is probably accurate. While in France in 2012 I saw an old sculpture, 300+ years of Mary and Jesus in a French monks church. I am not going to say which church. Tucked away in a darker cathedral chamber was the statue. They were brown like the middle Eastern people are. I felt it was an accurate rendition of life.

I also saw some Joan of arc sculptures where they had bashed in her face. But that is another topic.

Sounds to me like a couple of Christians who missed the point of Christianity are overly sensitive to what they feel is an intrusion on their fragile psyches.

I'm a Christian who doesn't care what Jesus looked like (as long as he has long hair - that's my only requirement.) Bald guys may have a problem with that, but i don't, even though I'm on my way to joining the ranks of bald dudes.

If you believe in the faith, which I do not, did Jesus not live in the region of Israel/Palestine. Meaning he would be Arabic if basing off region and not divinity. But then read my previous post. So, no it's not accurate.

God created Man in his image. The White Man created the world for what it is today, and this simply can not be denied. What power, if not European led to what we have? None. Of course some other regions had influence, but none so much as the Whites. This is not racism, simply look at history. So now, you can't tell me the son of the being who created everything is anything but White. Oh wait, that being doesn't exist. Well, still love Christmas, but I'll keep my own traditions

Quite true, however Europeans did not always have things their way, and power swings like a pendulum one can never be too sure of what the next century much less five centuries will look like in terms of power politics.

White Man regardless created the world. Even today. America is a product of Europe.

Another example of how things have changed with every single thing someone does being singled out for criticisms. I live in the southeast and some black churches have had black nativity scenes for DECADES. Even some on front lawns in black neighborhoods. Nobody has ever said a word about it, or thought much about it. I remember seeing them as a child and asking my mother if Jesus was black.
Black Santas too.

I'm appalled at the big deal everybody is making out of everything.

It's the old pictures of him that are so 'white'. Jesus was a Jew.

I do not disagree with you, especially with in the last 5 centuries but before then, the power politics of the world was dominated by Black,Brown and yellowish brown folks, Europeans of very lite hue were largely on the periphery for some 800yrs
Again one can expect a pendulum swing in the up coming centuries.

It isn't clear from the original story that there was much controversy except in the hopeful minds of the journalists.
All we get is "some people have suggested", but we don't know how strongly the suggestion was being put forward.

Hopefully the world ends before than. I expect the White Fort to fall, Europe (especially the non-Slavic countries), but I only long for the end because of the behaviors of man in the modern era.

So can Christians be called out for being PC, or non-PC, of what I am not sure?

For what it's worth, I don't care what color skin people give Baby Jesus -- or adult Jesus, or any-age-Jesus -- and I doubt God cares either, since God sees our hearts, not our skins. "God is no respecter of persons."

But it seems to me that it's those who insist on assuming they know the color of Jesus' skin, or that would presume to assign a specific color to his skin, that are being politically correct.

Contemporary accounts of how Jesus looked are available, describing him with golden or reddish hair:

The Oldest Views and Literary Data on the External Appearance of Jesus

Jesus was not described by his contemporaries as what we now consider a typical Middle Eastern man. In fact, some say that his grandmother, "Anna" or "Hannah," was from the southwest of England, along with others from the "Lost Tribes" of Israel. Some say that He would have looked more like the Welsh of today.

We (the societal "we") can argue till the cows come home. No one today knows... especially if we reject eye witness accounts for those deemed politically correct. In fact, the only purpose I can see in people presuming to know what Jesus looked like then is to divide people today. And, of course, it's working...

I read the article and it's clearly "race baiting". It says "a couple of people" have complained, yet the interview goes on to interview other people who said they don't mind a bit, and yet look at the title.

People, you've been had. I don't know about Australia, but we Southerners have grown up with different depictions of Jesus and don't mind a bit (as long as it's not blasphemous) which this is most certainly not.

a reply to: cuckooold Who cares what color Jesus is in the manger display, I am white and a black co worker told me once that Santa was always a black man in his house, and I am pretty sure Jesus didn't look like that man I grew up with on the cross. So lighten up people, don't let everything piss you off.

Your statement is disgusting. How do you know that? Who could possibly care what Jesus looked like? You have to be joking, right?

That was in Australia... Just so we're clear, the demographic there is 92% white, 7% Asian, and 1% aboriginal and other.

Most likely, this was just a joke. Nothing to get ruffled about.

And I am optimistic hopefully the next centuries no matter under whose tutelage we can behave much better than we did since we started on that experiment we call civilization.

I think I will make a nativity scene next year depicting Jesus as a transgender child. All the wise"men" will be in drag. Something similar to this:

I actually care about that, about who rules, but then I would hope we greatly improve. As is I can't support our biological species. I'd provide a better response, tad busy. That and not absolutely functioning brain; too hyper at the idea to be home. But we have differing views, you are optimistic, I am realistic, though my view of reality perhaps has some amount of pessimism.
