Hate speech, or any racial speech should be banned in any country, not just UK.

Everyone was wondering why Germans did not do something to prevent Hitler's rise to power, that was helped with hate and racial speeches, yet we living recreation of the same politics and views... and some are applauding?!

There is a fine line between freedom to speak and hate speech, but it might be beyond mental capabilities for some to comprehend.

Hate speech is a BS made up PC term, used to demonize those that dont agree with you.

All speech should be free, with only a couple minor exceptions "FIRE!!!" in a crouded theatre....not protected "I HAVE A BOMB!!!!" on a plane not protected.

"I HATE MUSLIMS!!!" absolutely protected

"ALLAH COMMANDS WE KILL ALL INFIDELS!!" absolutely protected

"WHITE CRACKERS NEED TO DIE!!" protected

"BLACKS ARE LESS THAN HUMAN" protected

the only limits on free speech are limited to words that are intended to cause severe physical harm on people.

Emotional harm/ hurt feelings are not reason enough to limit free speech period!

You miss the important one - "As president of America I will discriminate openly against people of a particular faith". Is it protected? Don't know, I'm not American. Will it get you a welcome into countries which finds such a view repugnant? Probably not. Don't you see the difference?

There is no difference.
Fararkan, is one of the biggest pieces of crap I have ever seen or heard of, but if he ran for president, he still has the same rights as before, he can still express himself freely.

Why do you keep insisting this need to stifle free expression?

There is no need.

So what if he became president and I didnt like him or agree with him on basically anything( OBAMA) he still has the same right to say his hateful BS as anyone else.

You are turning somthing very simple into somthing very complex so you can try to twist it into what you want.

When it is in fact quite sublime in its original form, I dont like it you dont like it he doesnt like it she doesnt like it, but we all get to say what we think.

We all win and we all lose at the same time in the same measure.

It is the essence of compromise.

No, you are just being stupid (I'm allowed to say that, free speech and all). For a country to close its borders to people of a particular faith is something that a lot of people would object to. Trump was proposing it - people are opposing it. If people either in or outside America use their voice to show opposition to his proposal then that is the essence of free speech - why are you being so childish in not accepting that?

Not one person outside America gets to have a say in the matter.

If they are American, then let them be heard, if they be of any other nation.....they can talk, but their words have no meaning or value, thus carry no weight.

Hence Americans not getting to decide what happens in spain or germany or france.

America is not dictated to by anyone that is not an American.

I dont care if I agree with them or not, their words are as useful as used toilet paper.

I know you are new here, perhaps you would like to check the title of the thread which is about a petition in the UK to ban Trump from visiting the UK. so your comment "Not one person outside America gets to have a say in the matter." is totally incorrect. Actually no one who is inside America would get to have a say in the matter. You'll learn, and this is a global site so be prepared for opinions from anywhere about anything.

As it happens, I'm with Woodwardjnr, let him in, expose him for what he is. He has form over here for being such an idiot in Scotland.

It is a global site, i never denied that or said it wasnt.

This is a thread about internal American politics, to whit, there is no person outside the US that has any say that matters on this subject.

Which is what I said.

Yes they can talk, but their oppinions and or views do not matter, because they are not Americans.

Much like i can talk about UK or Aussie politics, but my oppionions do not actually matter because I am an American.

there is a clear distinction.

I thought it was obvious..??

Actually, it's not obvious because one of us is being stupid and ignoring the title of the thread. Now, I know it isn't me, so that kind of leaves you. I'd say welcome to ATS but you aren't covering yourself in distinction at the moment - if you don't start then people will just ignore your comments and treat you as someone who adds nothing to the debate but wants to be obnoxious, it's hardly a new thing on here.

Anyone can criticize or have an opinion on the politics of any country, both in practice and in principle. This is empirically true.

The third paragraph in the article and YOU for saying kudos to the U.K.
for trying to do what the U.S. won't!

You are in Ohio and you support the racist EDL based in England, hmm, I guess you have already ticked the trump box then. I dread to think why you would support a group that is openly against people for daring to have a different coloured skin to them, and is happy to use violence against them, but there you go.

Yes, this could be called thread drift, but when people from another country support openly racist groups in another country than actually it shows how big the issue is.

Then just apologize and move on. You were clearly wrong here and trying to put words in my mouth as evidenced by you misremembering what I typed (not that it is super hard to just click on the page 1 link at the top or bottom of any thread to confirm what was exactly said in the OP or anything). Or you could double down on your attack of me even though your analogy fell flat. It's your choice. I probably won't deem the second choice with a response though.

It is not a matter of different colored skin! It is a matter
of polar opposite ways of living. One group is trying to
preserve their way of life against a foreign invader who
will never accept any way of life but their own.

Petition Seeks To Ban Donald Trump From U.K. Over Hate Speech

Could Donald Trump get banned from Britain?

An online petition calls on U.K. Home Secretary Theresa May to bar the Republican presidential frontrunner from entering the country for allegedly violating the nation's hate-speech laws.

If it receives 100,000 signatures, the petition could be taken up for debate in the House of Commons, according to The Independent.

The petition launched by Scottish resident and longtime Trump critic Suzanne Kelly blasts Trump for "unrepentant hate speech and unacceptable behavior" that "foments racial, religious and nationalistic intolerance which should not be welcome in the U.K."

Lol this is hilarious! Trump could get banned from the UK for his messages of hate. Good job UK I hope this is successful. It just goes to show that the rest of the world is watching and they don't approve either.

Here's part of the text of it:

“The UK has banned entry to many individuals for hate speech. This same principle should apply to Donald J Trump. We cannot see how the United Kingdom can condone his entry to the country when many people have been barred for less.

If the United Kingdom is to continue applying the ‘unacceptable behavior’ criteria to those who wish to enter its borders, it must be fairly applied to the rich as well as poor, and the weak as well as powerful.”

Oh and they've been successful with this before.

Such a ban would not be without precedent. Earlier this year, rapper Tyler the Creator was barred from entering the country for a string of tour dates due to some of his lyrics. Anti-Islam activist Pamela Geller was also banned in 2013.

Kudos to the UK for trying to do what the US cannot do!
I'd be more impressed if these dullards would try to ban all the radical clerics going around preaching killing people who are not muslim. until these twaddle peddlers figure out what real hate speech is they need a nice cup of STFU. Ban trump for hate speech. meanwhile clerics are running around preaching murdering people wholesale.

I agree, but it has no practical meaning if one is not a member of the state in question, because though their words may be truthful, they lack any meaning because the person speaking them cannot effect change because they are not part of the body politic that is in discussion.

I would have to disagree. Though someone cannot vote in the end, their opinions do matter. Take Orwell, for example. 1984 was banned in communist states where Orwell himself had never visited. Dissenters used to smuggle in his work, pass them around, despite the ban.

LOL - This is exactly what I was thinking.

Without any doubt, Trump would not question his stand and validity of his statement/claims, but rather find another way of offend and insult anyone who opposes him. Isn't that 101 on bullying?!

By look of it, at the end of his run for candidacy he might limit himself to few places he did not offend or insult...

So............... comment based on the title of the thread which is about Trump wanting US policy should he become president to stop anyone of the Muslim religion entering the US and the fact that a large group of people in the UK are disgusted by such a ridiculous action that they would wish him to not having the authority to enter the UK if he does get into office. Any other opinions you have on this thread are meaningless, if I wanted to condescend you I would at least spell the word condescend correctly.

I think you may have had seven lives as someone I will actually attempt to debate with, not sure I can be bothered to allow you more than another one. Oh, me calling you stupid? I wouldn't do that as a rule, but you are the one so keen on free speech and at least I kept it cleaner than I would normally.

Probably will seeing as Scotland told him where to get off with his golf course. Give him a few years he will be bankrupt - again - and start a new project, that's unless of course he gets into the white house and then he can do it to a country.

Sorry, the EDL is a street protest movement which focuses on opposition to what it considers to
be a spread of islamism and sharia in the U.K. I didn't see anything about skin color posted.
I haven't read any of their "propaganda" for a long time. I still support their agenda because I
know what's happening around the world.I am another voice sounding the alarm.
