Fox reporting that the lead suspect was a U.S citizen but they are still not releasing any other details.

NBC just said authorities have confirmed one name of the shooters: Saeed Farooq.

We heard that name earlier. Is he well known somehow?

good to hear its finally confirmed

I believe you mentioned the name earlier.

Is he of any importance and known in some communities, or was this just something twitter chatter figured out?

His name was put out as a person of interest within about half an hour of the initial incident. I got the Farooq, somebody else heard the Sayed. Waaaay back on page like...4.

So far it doesn't seem like they have any cameras that can get a shot of it. Basically just discussion about what they are probably doing. Kind of lame actually. If something goes boom I guess we will know soon enough. Wish I could tell you more. I've been following along with you guys all day. Just haven't commented on anything. Keeping my opinions to myself as I am speculating as much as the rest of us.

I will say I think people could be prepared if they were expecting something to not go their way. Just because it is being said he came back with friends, doesn't mean the friends weren't actually family. Might explain the woman being involved too... Who knows, just bizarre how little we do know. Seems to opposite of the norm.

What?!? No way! We were just told a few pages ago that name was trashed and completely erroneous! It can't possibly be!

That's what they said. I can't add much more.

They did speculate that the delay was due to the names being "foreign sounding" and being worried about how the public would react.

Earlier in the thread Hillbilly4rent (name right?) posted the name and a photo of XXXXX XXXX...either from twitter of FB...can't remember. (Not XXXX the guy on LinkedIn.)

I'm not agreeing, I'm just posting a link from TMZ who at times scoops the non-tabloid outlets because they apparently pay their sources decently.

It definitely sounds ludicrous but so does a terrorist attack on a county health department's Christmas party doesn't it? I haven't seen any reports of pipe bombs from official sources, just speculation about things they were "throwing out the window" and a suspicious package but nothing about any explosions. They built a bunch of pipe bombs and none of them went off? It's also possible that the this was some sort of fanatic that had stockpiled weapons and explosives and was just looking for an event to finally set him off.

Then again, who the hell has friends that would go massacre people at a Christmas banquet on a moment's notice over a "dispute?" So yeah, it sounds crazy but so do basically any of the scenarios that I've come up with.

It's not crazy. The party was a very soft target with a lot of people without weapons. That's what they look for.

You guys were right, good on you.
I was one that 'opposed' the name I guess but really just wanted to know where it was coming from.

I will say that with him confirmed and as you already shown as an employee, I see where the workplace idea is coming from.

Do think that is a bit convenient though.

But like Ante said, a terrorist attack on some random workplace party?
Seems weird too.

My comment was more directed at those screaming in all caps about how the name broadcast hours ago was trashed and how sketchy it was that the investigative team didn't hand over all the information they had at the first press conference since the incident ended but oh look now we have an identification.

Wasn't directed at you.

The spelling is Sayeed Farook apparently.

IB Times - Who Is Sayeed Farook? San Bernardino Alleged Shooter Identified After Police Car Chase

Sayeed Farouk has been identified by media reports as one of the three shooting suspects involved Wednesday in a police stand-off after gunmen killed least 14 people and injured upwards of 17 people at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. Two suspects -- a female and a male -- were killed in the shooting and a third was detained was detained Wednesday, according to authorities.

EDIT:

Actually they spelled it Sayeed Farook in the headline and Sayeed Farouk in the article. Who knows?

What does a County Environmental Health department do?

They focus on prevention of disease through sanitation, safe food and water, proper disposal of wastes and toxins, and promoting safe and healthy environmental conditions.

So if it was a hit, let's think about who would want to attack them. Who has had their permits revoked for pollution? Who has applied for land use permits and been denied?

Here's something interesting:

Lawsuit involving Plans for Al Nur mosque

It seems that after the county released the permit for the mosque, they were sued and the court found that the County had failed to adequately determine the environmental impact the mosque would have. The permit was revoked. Published 4/13/2015. So the county, in order to issue the permit, would have to do an environmental study. I would think this would make the court a target and not the county. Unless they DID do a study, and its findings came back negative...

Just throwing this out there. It is equally as likely that it was a cartel hit over some county official refusing a bribe or failing to deliver on one.

Interesting.

Great the outlets are official repeating the name all over the internet.

Let's all hope no one does anything stupid.
