A man has shot several people dead and wounded many with a Kalashnikov, according to reports in French media.

PARIS (AP) - Police officials in France say there has been an explosion in a bar near a Paris stadium and a shootout in a Paris restaurant.

BFM television says there were several dead in the restaurant shooting in the 10th arrondissement of the capital. Two police officials confirmed the shooting but had no information about casualties.

One of the police officials said there was a separate explosion near the Stade de France north of Paris. It was unclear if the events were linked.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to be publicly named.

Are you sure this happened? I am pretty sure that weapon is illegal to own in France. Regardless, my thoughts and prayers for the victims of this tragedy.

It seems there may be three possible attack sites: a restaurant, a bar and outside the Stade de France. Details are very much confirmed at this stage.

I'm unfortunately almost certain. It seems to be breaking news as of now, with not much info out yet.

Some french reports suggest that there's 18 dead looks like there's mutiple locations but no evidence that they're linked however geography and timing would suggest that they are. Explosion at a bar and "shoot-out" at a restaurant amongst the incidents.

The explosion at the bar was near to the Stade de France where Germany was playing France in a friendly football match. François Hollande was also at the Stade and was evacuated.

Edit: Hostages taken at a concert hall in the capital. Could be 100s. Reports of 60 dead overall.

Yes, they are illegal, but the arab communities usually have them.
I used to work next to one and during weddings they would fire them.

Shooting is said to be continuing.

That's from your source. That's definitely not a good thing. I hope people have gotten to cover and the police are quickly able to dispatch these attackers.
