yes i do not entirely recognise gender reassignment surgery since its not perfect and the law shouldn't either at least not until we can truly change ones gender, DNA, chromosomes, skeletal structure etc,etc

but eventually we will master it, then we won't have these problems.

It is interesting debate, but for vulnerability reasons alone I think a male prison is inappropriate.
She has female genitalia now as I've found from other sources so being the only one in HMP Bristol without a penis I think the female prison is the appropriate decision.

Her female genitalia should be the deciding factor. Let's be honest, she's on daily hormones she should have been sentenced to anger management. Clearly this judgement was not for this person's best interest or resolving a problem. This sentence was either to set an example in order to change laws or part of mandatory sentencing.

It turns out there are "Vestiges of a penis" remaining, and I posted a correction with a link a little further up the page.
That may well influence your thoughts and may or may not be important to the debate.

You're welcome. Yes, may be will shall. Personally, it is a mine field I do not walk into. I am just sensitive to people that way and trying to allow them freedom of choice. This seems to have been with us all through our evolution, from tribal days until the present. Reading the history and the different attitudes society has had to transgenderism is very interesting. It seems to swing on some kind of barometer between more liberal acceptance and witch hunt time.

Hey, all the very best to you and yours!

Does your logic not tell you that in jail, where sexual assault does happen at a higher rate than public places, if you put a female looking man in with a bunch of other MEN, he/she will have a much greater chance of being assaulted? Her odds of being hurt are astronomically above those of a "traditional male".

Definitely, on would hope they do risk assessments as it is as clear as day she will be at risk.

It is a minefield for sure, perhaps a dedicated trans prison is the way forward, not sure the numbers of trans convicts would be enough to justify it though.
Got me curious though, I'll try see if the UK govt keeps such stats.

*Edit*
I've found some freedom of information requests and it appears that the Ministry of Justice does not record numbers of trans prisoners and simply say the numbers are very low. I'll keep trying though.

I really don't care if it gets raped in jail.
like people pointed out earlier, it can go hide in solitary confinement if it wants to.

I went back and reviewed the update.

This makes more sense why the judge went with the passport info. It now appears the judge had their hands tied. I still stand with the anger management. There is no way hormones and chemicals added to your body won't cause a person to need help coping.

I've been prego twice and while it's not exactly the same I think it gives me an idea.

Agreed. If they do go through with putting her with men, the corrections officers MUST do their part to protect her.

I don't feel sorry for this person. He is a criminal and maybe they should have thought of that before assaulting someone. What are we worried about exactly? People get raped in prison all the time. I recommend avoiding these places.

If we knew the reasons for the fight she was in maybe it could okay with her being sent to prison, an all male prison no less.
I've been in a scuffle or two for defending my honor and was not charged or sentenced to anything.
We don't have the whole story here as to what went down in the fight and would prison be okay if it was two men ''working things out'' in the olds school way, perhaps if one of the men were sent to the emergency room.
Again we don't have the complete story.

No one does twelve months in prison for a first offense. Obviously there is a history here that we are not being told of in order to promote the 'victim' angle of this story. I could see him getting in a fight for revealing too late that he was a once a man. I would be inclined to kick his ass for not revealing that information in a timely manner.

There are very effeminate gay guys in prison. I don't know what makes the guy (chick) so special?

Where do we draw the line? Let's say the guy wasn't in jail and was an upstanding citizen. Would you allow her to be a chaperon for a girl scout troop?

You don't really have freedom of choice when getting sentenced to prison, so in this case that argument is moot.

Anyway all the best.

You're entitled to your opinion and I respect that. But I do not respect the fact that you wouldn't care if a fellow human being is raped. To me, that is an extremely harsh thing to think. And wrong. Completely wrong....

Technically with small male genitalia you would be hard pressed to find a potential significant other that wouldn't think hermaphrodite.

There are too many males with homophobia that don't realize they have it until they get hit on. Short of wearing a t-shirt at all times expressing her difference this has to be a major issue in this woman's life.

If this dude was sent to a womens prison and then killed someone the judge would be responsible and since her charge was violence then it makes much sense to put the guy in with the guys because even though he wants to be known as a woman god gave her dude strength and mentality.
