Not that many Christians think humans are the only life. In fact very few do that I know. I did meet a catholic recently who thinks humans are the only life in the universe. I'm Christian and I laughed at him for that one.

People put things into the niches they like to think is reality. Everyone does it sometimes. It's usually called overzealousness. Zeal is like false courage. It makes the mind believe irrational things so a person's comfort isn't ruffled too much. It doesn't just happen to religious people either.

And nothing in the bible has been proven wrong. Everything in the bible is misinterpreted by those who hate Christianity --would better describe your conclusion. People misinterpret it by choice. IF I wanted to, I could find 100 things in the bible to misunderstand and then claim it's rubbish. But I know that by studying the entire context, along with a true and living commitment to Christ, that those things make perfect sense and are true to their intended purpose as words in that book.

Part of me wonders if there is a plan that announces ET life yet its located far enough away that the panic factor would be minimal. The distance would allow for the acclimation and back and forth by those who believe and those who don't while also allowing some religions to reconcile that fact with any differences in their ideology.

We cant get there...
Any message we sent would not be returned in our lifetime...

Nomenclature and classification of beings either physical or 'inter-dimensional' is irrelevant. Its safe to assume alien life exists, given the sheer number of planets in our galaxy itself which are conducive to life.

I think there will come a time in the future, where the "rational" people of our world will have to sweep the religious folks under the rug to avoid total embarrassment or even a war.

The day our first visitors arrive and walk off their ship into a crowd of people waving signs and calling them demons, will be a major face-palm moment for the rest of us..lol

The potential for the crazies with a bible in one hand "calling everything not like us the devil" and a gun in the other hand may cost us dearly at some point as the universe starts to open up to us.

I don't believe we could ever have a peaceful fist contact and co-existence with other races as long as religion has a hold on such a large portion of our planets population.

What you should really be worried about are the ones with a Koran in one hand, wearing a suicide vest, and an AK-47 in the other hand, because everything, especially you is the devil to them. They'll try to kill you to prove it.

If these "Aliens" are 10,000 years more advanced than us, it's most likely that they discovered us long ago.

The way I see it, if we do make "contact" then I believe the ancient alien theory more than our discovery of a "new race".

Hopefully we'll get the peer review this week, the fact they want it reviewed places it among a very few "returns" or finds from SETI.

A lot of folks around here seem under the misimpression that the belief in extraterrestrial intelligence is something recently invented in human culture. Perhaps it excites them to think they are the first -- and therefore the smartest -- humans to believe it. But until astronomers had actually measured the physical conditions on other worlds, the assumption that other non-human civilizations existed out there was widespread both among academics and the general public for centuries. It faded not because of superstition or closed-minded parochialism but based on deductions from what actual research was revealing.

Has anyone mentioned how this thing could be a wormhole? Maybe they have craft which enter it and appear elsewhere in the Universe? Maybe even here (but then we'd see the exit hole unless it's undersea or on the darkside of the Moon).

Maybe CERN are trying to create one to reach that one so we can get there a lot quicker??

This is exactly what i believe - they will announce there could be possible life, however intelligent, but it is too far away to reach us etc.


Then they will confirm there is indeed intelligent life on there, due to structures etc but due to the 'heads up' life on earth, or the sheep, won't be too bothered as it's too far away.

Then life will go on.

Movies like Star Wars etc all help condition us.

When in reality, they may have already contacted us

Concur with that! If they are out there and more advanced then they have been here and have been doing so for a very long time! If we can find them with our extremely limited tech then there's your evidence. And if they have been coming here for a longtime as some historical indicative evidence suggests then our history as we are taught it is a lie!! And intervention took place!

I was hoping SETI would discover intelligent life since it hasn't been proven to exist anywhere in the universe (including earth).

What exactly do you believe is being peer reviewed? I am under the impression there isn't any new data to review

I don't get that argument. I mean.....it may be useless over super-long distances but over short distances it may still be a viable means of communication. Why wouldn't it be? It doesn't take much to communicate over radio waves and if they use the full wave spectrum as a means to communicate one way or another then they may have a use for radio wave spectrum.

They have submitted a paper that details their methodology for searching the systems over several different spectrums and and types of detectors.
They are doing this so if they do find something, other groups will be able to recreate the work and hopefully provide independant confirmation, without the other groups having to 're invent the process.
