Vladimir Putin has said Russia will fight for an independent Palestinian state, and called for the issues of the Middle East to be resolved through peaceful means.

It all makes sense now, Saudi's support the right for the Palestinian state, so Saudi's and Israeli's aren't really the best of friends. And relationships between Saudi's and U.S have fallen in recent years. I believe Saudi in return for support for the Palestinian cause from Russia made a deal to fight the militants in Syria ?

I'm assuming until hearing otherwise that all territory proposed would come from Israel alone and not the surrounding countries that also have Palestinian lands incorporated in their territories.

That's the rub I've always had with these proposals and most likely the reason they've gone nowhere over the years.

Demanding that Israel and Israel alone give territory is a non-starter and just perpetuates an acrimonious situation.

Even were this issue dealt with who thinks ME would all sudden be peaceful?

Not me as Palestinians were kicked out of Syria and Lebanon due the trouble they brought, I think the Palestinian cause offers a convenient excuse for extremists which wont change even with that issue dealt with.

If this information is accurate and there is escalation.......

Obama wanted to play game of terrorists in Syria so Putins going to turn the tables and play it in Israel .

It's likely that Putin has declared support for a Palestinian State because he knows the USA will do "whatever it takes" to defend Israel.

Just like he's taken the side of the Assad regime in Syria.

However, on this point I agree with him. The Israeli treatment of the Palestinians is way worse than the South African treatment of blacks under Apartheid. The Western world condemned South Africa (who were also facing armed terrorist threats from the likes of the ANC), but wholeheartedly support Israel for doing exactly the same thing. It's massively hypocritical.

I get the whole holocaust thing, but given there are only about 12 million Jews in the world compared to over a billion each for Islam and Christianity, I fail to see how Judaism is considered "one of the world's great religions".

There are more Mormons than Jews, and Mormonism is widely ridiculed, even in Christian circles.

If Russia tries anything direct in Israel, what we have seen so far with Palestine and Israel, will seem like a playground squabble, compared to the bloodbath that will ensue.

With the drop in the Oil prices, Russia's economy wasnt doing so well either.

The BRIC is trying to destroy the US economy, we all know that, they have basically said as much

A world war with all these players involved and tensions as they are, would definitely NOT be refreshing, and its disturbing that youre so flippant about the loss of life that would ensue

Can't argue that the poor Palestinians deserve there own state but somehow I imagine Mr Putin has his own agenda other than there well-being.

see thats the thing the russians and the saudis dont get along too well either,they(gullf states) seem mad over intervention by russia in syria so if russia does intend to try to make a palestinian state pretty much every one will be in a tough spot of quagmire proportions

1us is an ally of isrel and obama would not want to look weak again on world stage,its an election year so he cant be seen coming down on Isreal but it seems he wants a Palestinian state eventually

2.as stated above russia and saudi dont exactly get along but there is support for a palestinian state amongst the middle east states so they do would be in an intersting spot

3. jews wont care about what russia says any more then when any country demands they give the palestinians a state i mean they dont listen to the un why would they listen to russia

but they have done lots of trade and have had pretty good relations with russia over the years with a few speed bumps

No, they haven't and they aren't, seeing as they are all dependent on a functioning US (and Western) economy for their own.
