I'm just pointing out that it's not people calling her a stupid dummy head that's got her going to court over this. This has been going on for a long time. I haven't followed it all or anything because I'm not a supporter of her cause. I like violent video games and always have. I like the sexual exploitation in them too. That's why they are fun too because they aren't reality. I've played them all my life and I'm fine. Just ask my wife. I hardly ever abuse her.

Seriously though. While I don't exactly agree with her cause I don't support a bunch of man child gamer douche bags calling for the violent rape of some woman either simply because that is the best argument they can come up with.

I realize that may not be the example given above but look into it a little more and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I get where you are coming from, same thing happened when they wanted to go after violent music. You know if your in the public eye partaking in constroversy you will get all kinds of crazy. Short of her staying physically safe whatever. If she was really media savvy she would use those threats to prove her point. back those making the threats into a corner. See folks I don't get these threats from people not playing violent video games, what more evidence do we need? Something like that. Running to the UN just makes you a joke to many no matter how valid your points are.

I wonder what these people will say when sex robots make it to market??? Think they'll worry about overt sexual and violent video games when guys can go buy a cyber woman to do with as they please???

I see Australia as a testbed for progressive anti-liberal policys. everyday the government treats their citizens like children. I assume it will hit critical mass and the Aussys will rise up..but I fear it is the slow boiling frog scenario going on there.

I live in the US, but I find myself paying more attention to what is happening across the pond, because I have come to the conclusion this is GLOBAL for the West and what is happening there will be happening here, vice versa?

I get all of my news from non-US sources. And have for years. All we have now is clickbait journalism. Bombastic claims and PC helps make a molehill into a mountain, so half of the work of sensationalizing a trivial local event becomes a social pooicane and "journalists" just have to scoop the froth from the storm surge.

IF we are going to be free we must understand that from time to time we will be offended and even confronted for what we say and do. None of the people on ATS would even be here if they didn't realize this fact because lets face it...we can be hard on each other when we have an honest disagreement.

Perhaps we can use this particular stupidity to again find common ground here on ATS. Most of you know that I am against nearly anything that stifles individual liberty, freedom and creativity. These 'people' are the antithesis of everything I believe and stand for here on ATS and in my life.

Exactly. That would be the smart approach. In fact I always found it strange that some of those gamers were saying the stuff they were saying to her as a way to defend their position. To me it just seemed like they were demonstrating exactly what she was talking about. Idiots will be idiots though I guess. We need to stop adjusting society to the weakest links all the time. If we concentrated on those who are average intelligence and above for a change the idiots might just remove themselves.

It is a serious problem, though websites should be banning/suspending speech against their TOS- I know YouTube seems to be too big to police comments very well. Places like YouTube should step up. Shutting down websites is not the answer.

Lying about them...that is not a serious problem. Death threats and other threats of violence are. It does happen to females in gaming a lot.

It is more in the larger games. I play a smaller online game where that is almost non existent, but this thread brought to mind something that happened a couple of days ago. The server that I play on just merged with others, so there is a lot of adding of new friends and brief conversations with new people. A male player from one of the new servers, after several lines of general chit chat typed "Would you like to see a video of myself and my wife *CENSORED*". I blacklisted him, I contacted the leader of his guild who kicked him out. I sent a screen shot to the game- surprise, surprise, he is neither banned or suspended- yet.

The feeling was almost as if he was standing in front of me and said that. I was shocked and upset and shaking a little.

I hear this happens more often in larger games and there is some percent of male players who harass female gamers just because they are female.

I don't want to see any websites shut down, but this may bring some much needed attention to the issue.

That's a good example of how some jackass screws it up for everyone. Here we have the internet. Probably one of the greatest inventions ever. Allowing for so many great things and so many ways for us to interact on a level and free playing field.

But some jackass somewhere is going to use it for child porn or something that the overwhelming majority want nothing to do with and cause a crack down on the whole thing.

Like I was saying, we need to stop regulating life based on the weak links. All it does is hurt the rest of us who know how to socialize without major trouble.

I was heavy into gaming for years. I actually MISS the days of Everquest when there was no "voice servers". At least with chat we didn't have to hear people whining, screaming, complaining, throwing temper tantrums, etc.

Voice killed the experience for us.

Showing my age here but the last time I was into gaming police quest, space quest, and leisure suit Larry were how I was rolling. Leisure suit surely fit into the violence against women category but guess it wasn't the hot topic of the day then.

Reldra, I love you, but the problem is...to have a truly free society, we need to allow people to be free to be jackasses.
Death threats and such should never be tolerated, though.
