School should be about learning for the real world, not indoctrinating children into what they want society to become.

Jaden

School is the children's society. It definitely needs to reflect the real world in a safe environment.

Do you think they come home and tell their parents everything they did and talked with their friends about?

Learning for the real world, you mean a world where groups are seldom formed based on "boys over here, girls over there"?

Yeah, I agree with you. Kids should learn that people can be different in lots of different ways, and that doesn't take a single thing away from their "people-ness."

Besides that, boys and girls don't have any difficulties figuring out the physical differences on their own, usually much sooner than the adults around them would like.

There's absurd, and then there's absurd. Lining up kids for recess or lunch based on colors or letters of their names or something is not going to turn them all into little Communists overnight.

Sweet random chance!

I've told this story before on ATS, but it might be worth repeating in this thread. In the 70's my Mother and Stepfather opened an Educational Toy Store.....their business model was to not sell commercial toys like Barbies or GI Joe's and to sell toys that encouraged kids to explore a somewhat "gender-less" approach to play and toys.....I think my Mom's motivation was more about wanting her daughters and kids in general to be exposed to science kits, building blocks, art's and crafts, books, all kinda cool stuff, lol......it was their way of fighting "TPTB" or what they considered to be a sexist commercialization of kids toys. It was a very popular store and became a business model for many other toy stores , such as "Discovery Toys"....my Mom and Stepdad were pioneers and tread setters back then, and we sure had a fun childhood...best 1 st jobs ever too !

Here's the interesting part of what they learned after 35 years of working with kids, families and lot's of teacher's and childcare provider's and we all learned as a family especially after my nephew was born, lol, is that the vast majority of kids did seem to be attracted to certain types of play and toys based on gender ! There was always exceptions to the rule, and it was always pretty cute to see how the kid's played in the store's play area, lot's of little boys loved the play kitchen area for example.

Here's the thing, I don't think you can turn a kid into something they are not, well at least unless abuse is involved, that's a whole other matter......I don't think a TG kid is gonna make another kid gay or TG by association....and before puberty it's kinda a non-issue anyways in terms of sexual orientation. There's really nothing to fear from an increased sensitivity to TG kids ....makes us all better human beings .

I have a name they can call all of us...

Homo sapiens - Homo sapiens is the binomial nomenclature (also known as the scientific name) for the human species.

Now we are all equal until the Aliens come out of hiding.

You want kids to be called "homos?"

Well, I'll admit, that's a unique approach to the issue.

These people amaze me with their ridiculous let's call boys and girls "Purple penguins instead." I'd call these pathetic excuses for humans "pondscum" but that would be a disservice to pondscum.

Maybe, what are you referring to?

The bit about homos and homo sapiens?

Yeah, I thought that since we were trying to push this into competition for the most absurd discussion ever, we might as well laugh at ourselves a bit.

Or ,something else?

So, you're against the idea, I take it?

Your only rationalization is to call some vague mass of people you don't know names?

What's wrong with the idea? We used to be grouped together by the first letter of our last name in school, I might have liked to be a purple penguin, now that you mention it rather than just a "D."

It is a medical fact that about 1 in 100 people are intersex.

But how is that a fact? there are seven billion people on this planet, how is it possible to know that one in a hundred are intersex? What about those in Kabul, Caracas, or Timbuktu?

Do you think they don't have medical professionals in those places that understand the biological facts of being intersex?

Do you think that all seven billion people have to be examined to note the prevalence of say, blue eyes or black hair?

I'm honestly totally confused by your comments, and, did you read anything on the link I sent you?

“Intersex” is a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male. For example, a person might be born appearing to be female on the outside, but having mostly male-typical anatomy on the inside. Or a person may be born with genitals that seem to be in-between the usual male and female types. Or a person may be born with mosaic genetics, so that some of her cells have XX chromosomes and some of them have XY.

Though we speak of intersex as an inborn condition, intersex anatomy doesn’t always show up at birth. Sometimes a person isn’t found to have intersex anatomy until she or he reaches the age of puberty, or finds himself an infertile adult, or dies of old age and is autopsied. Some people live and die with intersex anatomy without anyone (including themselves) ever knowing.

That's discriminatory towards Xeno. I'm sure that's the offspring of the deity of Scientology and Lucy Lawless, or something.

Seems this is the current theme on ATS at the moment.

I agree with this, we should get rid of our pre-assigned labels...for years I was a boy then I became a man, but inside I know I'm something else.

Y'all can be purple penguins, or numbers...I want to be batman.

Just to clarify, not the old...camp batman. The modern, badass one.

In all seriousness, this is pretty silly. That's an oxymoron, nothing makes sense any more but meh...could be worse.

It's not silly. Gender is physical, but does not define the mind or natural inclinations of how one feels about themselves.

Separating groups by gender reminds me of lining up alphabetically. My grandsons last name begins with a Z. In some situations he was always last. Do you want to grow up knowing your whole life you will be last?

Does it really seem like a minor thing to always be last throughout your school years?

I'm straight/female, but grew up with brothers. I was not comfortable being forced by gender.

Yeah, none of that has any meaning in regard to intersex people nor in regard to suggestions for classrooms.

If you decide to discuss the matter seriously, let me know.

Oh, i'm being quite serious.

i'm questioning the fact, the fact that '1 in a 100 people are intersex' and i'm asking, quite seriously, how do you know that is a fact?

Let's get serious.

When analysts take figures, they extrapolate. For example if you take ten random people out of a crowd, let's say seven watch TV every night. Then you can say that seventy percent of people on earth watch TV-however that doesn't include tens of millions of kids in the world that wouldn't know what a TV is.

It is very, very easy to spin the figures. That's how we end up with spin doctors. A small control group does not reflect on humanity as a whole. Nine out of ten doctors agree*

*from a select group of ten doctors.
