How about the meetup(s) happen in several places simultaneously ?
In the West, In the East, In the Mid... As well as in other countries too.

Problem is, this would be costly to pull together and if you don't have committed members show up, well then it would be wasted $$$ as well as lost effort/time. It would also be difficult getting speakers for each location, unless like a previous poster said you stream it on big screen for the other locals at their meetup events, but this would cost and appropriate facilities that could handle this type of function would need to be obtained for the event.

How about a traveling road show.

They've been done informally before, so I don't see why not again in a more formal manner. I think by nature of the site, getting people together is intuitively difficult though.

I vote for a more central, less expensive location than NYC. As said earlier, airport hubs are a great location. And people can use Skiplagged to save a few more bucks on airfare.

I just hope SO hasn't sold out to the powers that be alphabets.

Yes, it is that secret, only a local would know or be able to show you.

I am no longer local, but grew up just a couple of miles away.

I bet nearly 50 of us could pose for a pic safely under it.

Plus, I know the secret path for a 2 hour tube ride down the water to the falls.

And the falls (mill creek) lead into cataract( cagles mill lake)lake, where I once with my father caught a 72 1/2 pound blue catfish.

Good times in that area, fully 25 miles removed, in all directions from anything but really small towns.

One is named "carp", it is about 200 yards long and has like 5 houses in it.

Great place to grow up.

my personal attendance would be unlikely in the extreme but it's a cool idea.

If I lived closer I would. My vote would be for Atlanta for obvious reasons....I live here..it is a major hub for air traffic, meetings and pretty inexpensive to stay anywhere you want.

Omg i have never been to NYC! I would go for sure, DJ is always trying to convince me to come there lol. I'd come for a meet up depending on what day it is. If they will be monthly then I can plan in advance!

Too far for me, though the idea of walking around in a pair of dark glasses, taking peoples pictures and making random notes about them seems like too much fun to miss out on.

If I had the cash to blow on a return trans Atlantic flight to NY I'd do it for sure.
Unfortunately I am not in that position so you won't see me, but as a general idea, yep sounds great.

It would certainly be interesting to read the threads such a meeting would inspire.
