Thanks for sharing , and most important good to see a fellow Dutchman around here

I was not around before 1986 so excuse me for not knowing about this event

The Supposed sighted Submarine from last year did get some coverage in the dutch press on the first days.
But after a few days and no leads it was only discussed on Navy websites.

Also during that time the Dutch navy had 5 ships in the area , at some point some one even brought out the idea that it could be a dutch sub to the Russian press.

They also didn't do anything when the Glomar Explorer was grabbing pieces of the sub that sank off Hawaii.

If you trust Wikipedia and go on to the references, you will find that to be untrue. The official report said that the Glomar was under constant surveillance right up to when the sub was being lifted. The captain was fearful that two Soviet helilos would land a boarding party and he had huge crates placed on the helipad to block a landing. One of the surveillance vessels came with 75 feet of the Glomar! But evidently, the Soviets never quite figured out what was going and they left as the sub was being lifted.

Officially, we didn't acquire much of value because most of the sub fell away, but the report I read seemed to indicate that the sub was acquired in tact.

There's a big difference between observing and harassing and blowing it up, as the claim was made in this thread. The Soviet Navy didn't make any attempts to stop the recovery beyond harassing them some, and certainly didn't make any attempts to blow the wreckage up, despite knowing where it was.

The simple situation is that the sub was poking around and the Swedes nailed it with the depth charges. The Russians would not have lifted a finger to save the crew or ship had they even gotten word of a problem. So the Swedes sat on the deal for a time and then probably hired or coaxed the independent outfit to "find" it, as if they didn't know anything about its whereabouts or fate. That leaves the Russians in a bad predicament. The yellow signifying it as a "research" vessel maybe?

If it really is Russian we will know it when it self detonates

Those guys better know what they are doing

Smartest thing would be to call Russian government,

This is just a scam though, there is no way Russians would leave a spy sub for NATO to study

They would torpedo it before they let it get dissected

You have been trying so hard, your Putin is showing.

The "text" filmed by the Ocean X Team matches with the text on Catfish.

Also, a user on Swedish forum, flashback.org dug up this post from Peter Linberg, Ocean X, made a year ago:

"Anyone know anything about the Russian submarine "Som" that sunk after a collision? Anything like nationality of the ship that collided with "Som" and where it happened, thx in advance, cheers!"

uboat.net...,90033,90033#msg-90033

Som=Catfish

That sounds like OceanX to me.
They have apparently known the identity of the sub that they found for some time. They are pushing the mystery angle for publicity.

Probably the Russian navy doing its usual trick of sinking it self

America sink the Japanese.

The British sink the Spanish and French

The Russians sink themselves

In the Morning News over here, more and more the Experts leans towards an old sub, "Catfish" type, their latest "proof" are the cyrillic letters on the hull, which the Ruskies stop using 1918........

I am a little disappointed, this is ATS, isn´t it?
I´m reading ATS since years, because it´s members are good in finding things, but here it takes more than one and a half pages till someone mentions what was clear from the first seconds about that boat?
That it is a WW1 boat, and it has cyrillic letters on it´s hull that were moved from the cyrillic alpahbet in 1918.
This one could read even in germany this morning, apart from all the anti russia propaganda, for that this news were used for.
Sweden again, think they have now more russian boats in their sea than water and fish, which threatens the freedom and the security of NATO-EUrope...

Sad that it needed that long on ATS to dismiss this propaganda as what it is, russia bashing propaganda and nothing more.

Well I love ATS for the intriguing stories the members dig up, but the site is hardly know for sound judgement or any sort of cutting edge investigation.

To be fair the Swedish MSM fell for it too in their early reporting. As someone mentioned earlier, I think the Ocean X team helped to blow this up intentionally by withholding information. I wouldn't trust those guys.

Still, I'm kind of curious to find out what's inside the sub. There is still potential for intrigue here.
