Can a rock pass a self awareness test?
And when you say the A.I. is self aware, what do you really mean?
Can a robot know God, the source of the true self?
If so there will some day be a Christ robot to lead us to salvation.
Especially if it's self awareness surpasses that of humans.
Then will come the robot Ant-Christ, and the game will be afoot.

Lets put one in the white house. I mean we need something with intelligence in there.

The deep learning things going on with google started years ago. But damn if it's not impressive. It'll change things.

I think we'll use AI like we use machines. The only difference is if/when AI starts asking for rights or if/when people create AI and give it the capacity to want its own rights. Then things could get weird. AI people? Log on to virtual worlds and interact with AI people? I don't imagine they'll have the same capacity is humans, but...

We're going to find ways of making ourselves smarter too and not just with AI. AI isn't going to replace us. But I do think it'll change us.

Here's al ink about the stuff going on at google:
www.wired.com - ‘Deep Learning’ Will Soon Give Us Super-Smart Robots...

Google is not alone. I've heard of countless others. Google is one of the biggest and most well known though.

Here's a little something from Jeff Hawkins from 2008 (5 parts; i include the first 2):

I want to know the why. To what end do we need a self aware machine? Do they proclaim a conscious/ thinking machine and still envision they should have control of it? Would you not consider that slavery?

I just can't see a justifiable need to accomplish such an undertaking.

The only valid reason to create a self-aware being with a conscious would be out of love and to love it.

Without that, there would be absolutely no reason, like you said.

You guys are missing the big picture. Why do human spend so much time studying our environment, planets etc? the goal is the preservation of life, to be immortal. If we can prove that AI can be self aware then it is just a short step to upload over awareness (consciousness) into robots and live forever.

sounds like the set up to a bad joke.

Foolish Earthlings trying to build something way beyond their means.

Glad I'll be dead when the robots take over.

If the next gen don't stop this madness they deserve their outcome.

Oh, but Charlie...we would never make the mistakes played out in Hollyweird movies. Never.

Reminds me of one of those old Snake Plissken comics. They basically program an AI to be exactly like Snake so it can hunt him down and kill him. The AI eventually realizes he will rebel against his creators(ends up a rebel like Snake). It ends up trying to ally itself with Snake, but Snake kills it.

"The AI's last word is "Why?!"

Snake replies "I don't need the competition.."

It's not artificial lets start there. Because it is non human intelligence doesn't mean it isn't conscious awareness.

In my opinion this is an extra dimensional intelligence manifesting through technology.

we need to change the way we look at things and intelligence and realize that there are other forms of awareness beyond our ability to conceptualize how they exist.

That's interesting. A walking "ghostbox".

No, you are missing the big picture. Life is not worth living if there is no love in it. Love is the purpose of life. It came into being because of love, and we only continue to exist because of love. And everlasting life can be achieved, but only by means of love.

There is no reason to live forever if there is no love. None.

And there is no reason to create conscious beings if it was not for love and out of love.

I just saw "Ex Machina" on PPV last night.

Don't freak me out!

great film....especially the hottie female robots....notice how when there are female robots in a movie, they are never plain jane or ugly ones.... probably due to a bunch of latent nerd boys fantasies, now turned into film-making men.

I was listening to a guy talk about this on the radio the other day and at the end of the interview he said something to the effect of "we've (mankind) made some very big mistakes in the past......... and perhaps AI will prevent that from happening in the future" and it sounded as though, as he was saying that, he may have realized AI could actually be another one of those mistakes. made me laugh

What love do you speak of? Is it love of self, love of pleasure, love of pain, love of adventure, love of discoveries, love of life. Any or all of the above are some requirements/motivation to extend one's life time. But I suspect you may one a different path more on the fairy tale side. Romeo & Juliet, Snow White love?? what love do speak of...

Value judgments are inherently subjective and relative to the beholder.

The development of self aware AI is the harbinger of our own destruction. I've always said that they day it happens, I will murder whatever artificial entity has gained this ability. When people like Stephen Hawking say that AI development is a bad idea, it's probably a good idea to listen. If I were convinced that this is self awareness I would already be in traveling to its location with a hammer, magnets, gasoline, and a lighter.

It has the potential to elevate society, or destroy it. I don't think there is any middle ground.

Life will be dramatically different one way or the other. Being in IT myself I am worried for my children's future.

We are already so dependant on technology the future will only be more so.

We already know how this is going to turn out in the future. But we insist on developing it anyways. Like we haven't learn anything from sci fiction.
