It wouldn't work. Everyone thinks that their delusions are reality, and that their own, wild conjecture constitutes evidence, so a forum like that would just sit empty.

Ignoring all the obvious trolling and antipated stupidity I think the idea has merit.

Magic encompasses many different aspects, religion, science, history, esoteric knowledge ect.

I have often wondered where such topics should be placed but do not get your hopes up anytime soon.

I was on the "original internet, actually the first large global intranet as there was no www then" and that was the most popular topic.
It was on what became Alta Vista and the name was "Deja Vu"
Magic (witchcraft), Ghosts, UFOs on the original message board.

Magic is the original religion, did you try the link?
We could have past cheese regressions, the psychology of cheeses, psychic cheeses, cryptid satanic cheese, cheese liberationsists, under age cheeses and the list goes on and on to the beat of dawn.

I'm Game sounds better than the "pets" forum. Don't get me wrong about pets, we all have them and that's the problem. Just too many dumb, cutsie stories about them that people feel the need to share. And again the downfall and dumbing down of ATS!
the perfect counterpoint to all the doom porn thats so popular around here. some people wanna read about their hypothetical imminent demise, other people wanna chuckle warmly at a cat stuck in a jar.

The problem with the Euroamerican mind is to that mindset magic is a fantasy.
Most do not understand it is an alternate reality that is functioning at least as deeply
as the current religion of science. The Roman Church suppressed the native religions
and relegated them to the realm of fantasy and satanism. Some native cultures have had this paradigm operational up to the present and so don;t see t as strictly imaginative although that is one of it benefits, creator, creativity, imagination will weave more of reality than stale intellectual concepts and in fact how you think does create reality as demonstrated by the double slit experiment.

a reply to: Orifiel hocus pocus magic is not real. but there are stranger kinds of magic that are very real indeed. the magic of holding your firstborn, the magic of that moonlit kiss on the beach, the magic of sitting with a cold drink and watching the sunset...there are lots of magical things in life. magic is the art of recognizing the beauty in the mundane, of turning mediocrity into marvels. learning how to appreciate what you take for granted instead of taking for granted what you ought to appreciate. thats magic.

To me the study of magic is about personal evolution.

It is a way of understanding the world we live in, morality, symbiosis and our own ability to effect change.

Unfortunatly little has changed in the past several hundred years and any whiff of funny business and the locals still turn up to stamp out any "heathens"

They used to turn up at the door with pitchforks and flaming torches.

Now they turn up in any thread that does not suit there particular world view armed with cheap shots, sarcasm and memes.

It's a shame really put thats the way it is.

A forum, not form, likely the same root.
Life in the material world is largely an illusion, a mental one if you are an intellectual.
Science originated in shamanism and is not much different.
Try to find the logical structure in dark matter or gravity, for instance.
Magic can be scientifically demonstrated to work as can various forms of ESP
Science is coming to the conclusion that the universe is a creation of the mind, or at the least highly dependent on it for how it expresses itself.

Actually the Roman Church integrated the native religions into a new syncretic one suited for the whole empire. Catholic monks kept and translated ancient grimoires. And many priests actually took later part in the revival of occultism and hermeticism.

Extremes meet; all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled.

Thanks, I anticipate my immanent crucifixion in this thread if on goes long enough.
On another note, I have experienced events that could only be described as magic and come straight out of story cycles that have been told around indigenous campfire for tens of thousand years and continue to this day...
There is also a lack of rational explanation unless you can cover immaculate conception, extinct animals, totem sacred animal ancestors in a single narrative thread

a reply to: nonspecific i dont know if many people here have seen the movie Now You See Me, but theres thing in their about how magicians used to be like a robin hood type thing. they were lauded for their sleight of hand because they were not mischievious tricksters, they were humanitarians. they considered it their duty to even the scales between the obscenely rich and the appallingly poor. is this actual history? i dont know. but i feel it reflects the theme you were going for. of course, there are those who believe that the magicians have replaced the obscenely rich and perfected the bread circus they once hid behind.

“Come in close. Closer. Because the more you think you see, the easier it’ll be to fool you. Because what is seeing? You’re looking, but what you’re really doing is filtering, interpreting, searching for meaning. My job? To take that most of gifts you give me, your attention, and use it against you.”

I do not know about that it sounds a little fancifull but you never know.

Witchcraft historically had a lot to do with health and midwifery amongs other things.
