Just an FYI from guess who:

This Confederate flag business, Hillary Clinton's now come out and she's demanding that the Confederate flag be removed in South Carolina, and really is a key point. It does not fly over the statehouse. It used to, resulting from the commandment, if you will, from Senator Ernest Fritz Hollings, Democrat Senator, South Carolina. He used to be the governor, he put it up.

It was a Republican, ladies and gentlemen, a conservative Republican governor who first tried to get the Confederate flag removed from atop the statehouse. And, by the way, that conservative Republican governor got no support from the local NAALCP. In fact, when that all happened, the Democrats used the flag against the Republican governor, and it may have cost him the election. That was not that long ago.

Now Hillary Clinton has come out and demanded the flag be removed. Never mind that while the Clintons were in Arkansas they presided over something called the annual celebration of Confederate Flag Day, which continues to this day. Oh, yeah. It does. Confederate Flag Day continues to this day in Arkansas, and when the Clintons lived there, they presided over the annual celebration.

Not only that, Governor Bill Clinton, 1987, signed into law an act that commemorated the Confederacy with a blue star in the Arkansas state flag. I know I'm spitting against the wind here. I know none of this is gonna matter an iota to anybody. But I have such reverence for you people in this audience, I have such respect that I want you to know the truth of these things. And this wave, this never ending wave of literal destruction that is just sweeping across our country is relentless. And whatever I can do to have those of you know the truth about this and the blatant hypocrisy, because the Democrats are never held to account for hypocrisy.

But you obviously do care or you wouldn't have posted in this thread. I thought of the Gadsden too but I guess you and other defenders left me with the notion that the Gadsden wasn't enough and you all needed more than flag to say the same thing.

I also understand the burden you and the true defenders against tyranny are under with all the telling blacks, gays, muslims how to live their lives and that they should police their own and stand up to the thugs and terrorists and christian bakery bashings... that you don't have time to tell the racists to gtfo out of your anti-tyranny movement.

Some had to endure chains, some had to watch a flag come down... we all have our burdens, yeah?

All have endured chains at some point in their nation of origin's history... it's just that not all chains are granted modern acknowledgement.

Same old lies and bull crap from the left. LIE and call a flag racist when in reality, they want it gone because it speaks against what they want...the end of STATES RIGHTS because they want the federal government to rule over everyone like a group of kings. Liberal politicians want nothing more than to govern everyone and ignore the states. It is a lot easier to control when you don't have to go through the states. Especially the ones who aren't left leaning.

Keep the flag...at ALL costs.

Go read the Confederate Constitution before you spout that nonsense. It contains 10 references to slaves, guarantees the institution of slavery, regulates slave ownership, & even protects the domestic slave trade from anyone who would import slaves to compete with them. Here you go. Now document search it for "slave" and you'll see what I mean.

And ironically, Mississippi & South Carolina were the only 2 states in 1860 where "black" people made up the majority of the population. But take a guess why those black people had no political power back then? Here's a pdf of the 1860 Census. It's fascinating how much they break things down by the race. Also, it's 50 pages so you can take as much time to read it as you want

And don't get me started on the slaves the Confederacy depicted on its currency. Here's one website dedicated to it.
And here's a simple google image search.

"States rights" was only 1 part of the issue.

You know, what continues to astound me is some of the mistakes by posters here on ATS.

Saw someone refer to Haley as a "he" not realizing that Nikki is a "she".

The biggest mistake that I've seen over and over, specifically about the Rebel flag is the repeated statement of "flying over the capitol building."

Apparently a LOT of you are rather ignorant of SC history, so as a resident here, let me fill y'all in a bit:

The flag did fly atop the dome until 2000, when it was removed by the South Carolina Heritage Act of 2000.

The flag was removed from atop of the dome, leaving only the US Flag and SC state flag atop of it, and was raised instead on a pole in front of the building, in honor of all the fallen Confederate solders.

That pole, and that battle flag is NOT flying atop of a government building in Columbia, SC.

It's flying on a pole that is a war memorial.

It can not be removed right away. Sorry. The bill passed back in 2000 requires that the only way that flag can be removed is through legislation of the state senate.

I find it simply amazing at the very strong opinions of people, who can not even get their facts straight.

Like where the flag is flying right now.

But then: Mob Rule. It's a powerful thing.

What I didn't realize until just a few moments ago was that the Confederate flag wasn't flying over the statehouse in South Carolina until 1962 and it was raised by vote of the all-white legislature as a direct response to the Civil Rights movement.

Wow. I think the "Heritage" side of the "Heritage vs Hate" debate are going to be hard pressed to honestly keep pretending that this is an issue of heritage unless they are recognizing South Carolina's "proud segregationist heritage."

I agree.

Say - do you happen to recall that the Battle Flag was raised by Governor Fritz Hollings - a Democrat who went on be a United States Senator for a tyrannical thiry-some odd years?

An hey, while we're at it, surely you remember the make up of the legislature during South Carolina's most racially tumultuous past?

You do, don't you?

For those who don't remember, or who don't want to remember, there were 124 members of the Democrat party, and a whopping ZERO (0) Republicans.

Zero.

What we do know is that the flag represents to black people their degradation, and enslavement...

It represents their genocide...

And any decent American, imo, shouldn’t allow that flag to fly in any respectable place.

It represents to AA just what the Swastika represents to Jews

If people can’t understand why this is repulsive to many Americans then that is a problem and it astounds me!

I really do not understand why they would want to fly a flag of losers.

The Confederates got their a$$ kicked and bad.
They had an outdated ideology then.

You must have skipped history class or something. Because if you'd actually studied that war, you would know that for the first two years the South actually had the U.S. on the run.... they had them scared sh*tless for a while. The CSA generals were pretty much superior in every way. The only thing the North had was industry, but their leadership was tactically incompetent for the most part.

What little that matters when, indeed, per capita the southerners lost twice as many men as the Union, coupled with the devastation they were subjected too. Considering the confederation was more or less reduced to a third world country, while the north boomed and prospered in the wake of the Civil war, I would say the south was defeated rather thoroughly
I can think of no better word than a$$-kicking.

You mean YOUR opinion on what it represents.

As stated before, symbols can represent a LOT of different things.

There are many, many, many, many hate groups out there that fly the US flag too.

That flag is carved in to a LOT of grave stones here in the south.

Would you like us to go and remove all those gave markers? Would that make you happy?

Lord knows that we need to bow down to the PC crowed, history be damned.

Go ahead, start a petition: let's eradicate that symbol completely once and for all. While we're at it, let's make sure that anything symbolized in that war is removed, because, you know, it might be offensive to people.

To hell with those that died, or what anyone's heritage is. Let us rubberstamp everyone and everything with PC.

We need that. God forbid there be anything to be seen if it might offend people.

As your 3rd move, I would recommend you petition to have the 1st amendment changed. Certainly do not want to have that freedom of expression....because some people's freedom in that area might offend the PC crowd.

Ooooh! Wait! Also might want to add the 10th amendment to that list too.

What the Sudanese flag, an African country that did genocide to other blacker Africans

Dam all the symbols of genocide and oppression

Dam the English symbols of their oppression of the Irish people

Dam the black Africans who sold the blacks to the White slave holders

Your forgetting context

The flag was raised by a warrior race, the southern confederacy that if they had won the plight of millions of black people would have been pretty bad, to say the least.

Its understood that symbols have varying meanings and perhaps when the country is in a better place such a flag might be more acceptable as long as, imo, the people express outwardly what is their perspective of this flag means to them symbolically speaking.

It’s not PC

Ask a Jewish person if their revulsion of the swastika is pc?

Btw I wouldn’t ban the flag. Just remove any and all governmental association with it to any degree.

So when the next mass murder happens, what "cause" will they focus on then?

The causes.
I know this is real hard for people to figure out (selective logic is a nice convenience) but people ARE influenced to act by all kinds of things.

Whether you want to accept it or not, it is a fact that racists cling to racist imagery, ideology, politics... you might want to suggest that it's "unfair" that something is linked to someone who acts out in this way, but there is absolutely no denying that these things are in fact an influence.

Claiming otherwise is like claiming it's unfair to suggest that rap fans like rap music.

Of course, the one thing you're missing here is the fact that we're not talking about any of those things, so they are irrelevant to this discussion. When something happens in relation to an ideology connected to THOSE SYMBOLS then I'm sure they will have their own discussions about it, you know, just as plenty of countries in Europe continue to do regarding the far-right and the Swastika.

Inconveniently for you, this is about the Confederate Flag, which is a symbol of hate, used by violent racists to spread and symbolize their ignorance, violence and hatred of others.

Deny it all you like, we know that this is how many see that symbol, and you cannot change that reality through complaining about every other flag around the world as if the comparison makes this discussion any less valid.
