Only the US and SC State flag fly at the top of the dome. The Confederate Battle Flag is flying on a pole at the Confederate Solder War Memorial.

Well that bit of info just completely changed my position on the matter. I really didn't care either way before learning that. Now I whole-heartedly feel that flag should stay put.

John Brown may be the greatest American in history a real hero who died as a white man to save black people.
This brave man was a true martyr and Americans of all stripes should know of his sacrifice but they don’t because he fought and died fighting the evils of this countries slave system AS A WHITE MAN
They don't ever want to popularize that
To die for your own kind as a hero is one thing but to die for the rights of others is in the true spirit of Christ
This man was a true Christian and fighter for freedom that the Alex Jones types should be praising to high heaven

Uh, I think you were watching Dukes of Hazard wrong. It was making fun of Southerners, quite a lot.
The Second flag, adopted two years later as combat raged, features the “rebel cross” we’re familiar with, but only in a small corner. It’s largely white, and was called “the white man’s flag” by its designer W.T. Thompson. Thompson was delighted to have his design adopted by the Confederacy, claiming that it symbolized the “superior race.”

What part of the flag represents the Confederacy is too hard for you to understand?

It's also a symbol of betrayal to the United States. A war didn't need to be fought over States Rights and let's not pretend that the rhetoric used by the Secessionists wasn't all about slavery and "how can they say the negro is equal to the white man?"
Cmon...

There is a misconception about the Civil War. The majority of southerners that fought in it did not own slaves. To the common people it was not so much about slavery as it was to states rights .
You might want to tell all the southern racists that now.
Unfortunately, even though that might be true from a historical perspective, that flag is now predominantly about racism, hate, ignorance and the threat of violence.
As someone else has said, the only place for that flag is in a museum, to commemorate exactly what you say it meant back then. That is no longer what that flag represents. These people have done this to themselves and they have tarnished what that flag meant for a lot of people.
Having said all of that, I think the flag is now going to become even more divisive, and I think it should. People flying it are now making a conscious choice to be associated to what it NOW represents. Regardless of what people want to selectively claim it means, to the consciousness of the nation it represents the worst of racist America.
If people choose to keep displaying it knowing what it now represents to most people, they deserve all the condemnation they get.

Are You KIDDING??? It was betrayal to the United States by the northerners that led to the declarations of secession...

So does this mean that I will not be able to watch reruns of the old classic Dukes of Hazzard? I mean Bo & Luke's car the General Lee, had a Confederate Flag painted on the top of it, and on the front license plate.
I remember my black neighbor friend would spend the night, and we would watch that and then Bill Bixby classic Incredible Hulk right afterwards.
The flag never bothered my friend, and he even had the General Lee toy car just like me, which had the flag on the top as well.
Course I did notice that the new Dukes movie years ago with Johnny Knoxville, it didn't have the flag on top of the General Lee, not even on the license plate if I remember correctly.
What we got today, is just a bunch of self entitled, whiny crybabies. Always crying about something. ~$heopleNation

The States' Rights Democratic Party (usually called the Dixiecrats) was a short-lived segregationist political party in the United States in 1948. It originated as a breakaway faction of the Democratic Party in 1948, determined to protect what they portrayed as the southern way of life beset by an oppressive federal government,[1] and supporters assumed control of the state Democratic parties in part or in full in several Southern states. The States' Rights Democratic Party opposed racial integration and wanted to retain Jim Crow laws and white supremacy in the face of possible federal intervention. Members were called Dixiecrats. (The term Dixiecrat is a portmanteau of Dixie, referring to the Southern United States, and Democrat.)
The party did not run local or state candidates, and after the 1948 election its leaders generally returned to the Democratic Party.[2] The Dixiecrats had little short-run impact on politics. However, they did have a long-term impact. The Dixiecrats began the weakening of the "Solid South" (the Democratic Party's total control of presidential elections in the South).[3]
The term "Dixiecrat" is sometimes used by Northern Democrats to refer to conservative Southern Democrats from the 1940s to the 1990s, regardless of where they stood in 1948.[4]

And following that logic, we should stop flying the American flag because we start wars, allowed slavery for some time, etc. I would rather do with the Confederate flag what we should do with the American flag...take it from those bad ideas and make it ours again. Or in the case of the Confederate flag...make it the southern people's again. Lets not get into a mind-set of "this reminds me of something I don't like...therefore...ban it". There are a lot of things I don't like but I don't call out for them to be banned.
