He should run for president.

Chances are a lot more people would vote for him than many of the other candidates... Jeb Bush included (now).

I seriously hope you are joking about this. Look at what happened to this country the last time a celebrity thought he could run it... Reagan was one of the worst Presidents in the modern era. Very anti-freedom. And keep in mind, Charlie's letter to Obama seems to paint him with similar political views.

You mean Ronald Reagan, sweetheart of the Right?

Who could possibly be more of a danger to Hillary than Charlie Daniels?

Yes. We are STILL trying to climb out of the dark pit he led this country into. The escalated war on drugs coupled with the hard on crime stance, his trickle down economics. Ugh...

Trouble is... Obama has done very little to ease things over his tenure and the childish way he chided Democrat congressmen for going against his latest 'Free Trade' deal shows he's very much like Reagan.

Would Charlie be OK with shipping more jobs out of the USA or does he have enough cash to wave the Citizens United away?

America needs a true Centrist and I don't see anyone.

Hey now! I'm not an Obama fanboy. I don't like the TPP either; it's just that we can trace many of today's problems (police violence, riots, high incareration rates, rising wealth gap, etc) all to Reagan's feet. This is why you can't judge a President while he is in office. You have to look at how his policies affected America AFTER he leaves office, not during. Hence why anyone saying that Obama is the worst President we ever had is full of crap. Bush jr. wasn't even the worst President we ever had.

Tis true... Unfortunately, being a centrist in this political climate is pretty much political suicide. Though this political climate is in part thanks to Reagan's efforts by supporting the growing "religious right" movement. Though I don't lay the religious right movement entirely at his feet. There where others who helped it along that came before him.

Why are we supposed to listen to Charlie Daniels (his politics, although I don't know why people listen to his music either)? Because he wrote one catchy tune forty years ago (or whatever)?

I don't mean to rag on Charlie Daniels, but it ruffles my feathers when people give creedence to what famous people say just because they're famous, regardless of whether they have any idea what they're talking about or if they're even making sense.

It just shows the brainwashing at work. The above letter sounds like it could have been written by a thesaurus-obsessed fourth grader who watches cable news with grandpa all afternoon, yet we're supposed to think it means something more than what it really is:

More propaganda.

Hate much wow. For not wanting to you certainly did attack him. Just because apparently he doesn't agree with you. I see this to often now. No one looks at anyrhing the op is it in has to say it's dismissed and attacked. Realise Charlie Daniels Is more of a Midwestern attitude he does in fact spark for many people. I personally don't agree with everything he says but to dismiss it because it contradicts your preconceived notions is silly.

In the future might I suggest arguing against the points he makes and not attack the individual. I'm not even a fan but you made me respect him more than I do you.

Obama has no foreign policy but thats not what got him elected. He made changes for the people. If you like it or not people who couldn't get health insurance now can. He hasnot sent military off to die in a country for God knows what reason. And we'll he wad a nice break from the constant and perpetual wars the US has been fighting. Yes he's now a lame duck but at least he brought the US on line with many countries that make sure their people are provided healthcare. Let's face it leaving it up to insurance companies was stupid only people that could get insurance wad people that didn't need it.

I don't know why you are saying this to me. I wasn't complaining about Obama. I just said I'm not a fan. I can recognize that he did some good things. In fact, most of that post was a rant about Reagan...

And you never will there is no middle ground f or politicians anymore. They have to pander to one group or the other. You can't be an independent and compete in an election anymore you need the backing and money.

You're right.

Either side of the Great American Divide has the potential to put forward a candidate that seeks the middle ground in electoral policies. It's because they're giving up huge injections of funds that they don't appear, not because they can't.

Once again, thanks to Citizens United, there is no middle.

America is owned.

Actually hezbollah(irans puppet) has been waging a proxy war for years So as a country they have not OFFICIALLY
been at war but UN Officially they have. IED's can be traced back to Iran as well. I f ROnald regan was alive and president HE would had flattenned Iran with that evidence. Remember this was a guy who bombed Quadafis house for just shooting his mouth off.

This is also the man that turned tail and ran when over two hundred Marines were murdered. Also seeing how long Gaddafi lived after the bombing just showed yet another Regan failure.

As for what Charlie is and isn't. Again I don't care. I just want to listen to his music, and maybe try to reproduce it on my Mandolin.

And that's something good to aspire to.

Good music transcends.

You guys are funny, every time a person comes with a different view, you automatically say "Fox News". Who told you Fox News is soooo bad? Wait, Obama told you that.

You do realize, right, that Obama is more of a celebrity figurehead? He had as much qualifications as Sonny Bono and Clint Eastwood when he ran for President, but you voted for the guy because of swag, nothing more.

He's just a celebrity, nothing more. Swag, charisma, saying things you want to hear...that's all.

Charlie Daniels is remembered 50 years after making the music scene and here we are discussing Charlie Daniels. 200 years from now people will still be listening to Charlie Daniels, and Obama will only be remembered in history books.

Daniels isn't ignorant, he showed that he wasn't way back a long time ago, the problem is you are blind and can't see past Lady Gaga's meat dress.

You know, some of us on this thread are old enough to remember when the times were a-changin'. Fox News wasn't around then.

I was born in 1967, that means that I have been alive through 8 Presidents now. In my life span so far, I've seen Vietnam on the news, I've seen the Watergate Scandal, I've seen Ford tripping on the airplane steps, I saw the long lines waiting for gasoline and the Iranian Hostage Crisis, I saw Reagan say "tear down this wall", I saw the First Gulf War, I saw Clinton declare that "I didn't inhale" and "I didn't have sexual relations with that woman", I saw 9/11, I saw the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq...wait, I also saw the Iraq/Iran War, the mustard gas bombing of Khurds, and then I saw a man stand up and say "Epiphany, cling to God and guns" and then everything that came since.

That means that in my life, not only did I see my Presidents, I saw every other world leader also. And not from Fox News or CNN.

Charlie Daniels has lived longer than me. Imagine the more he's seen than you, and then you call him ignorant.

People didn't like fox long before obama.

When they stood right up with bush and called everyone one unamerican for not agreeing with the war we should have never fought.

Well that is just blatantly false, didn't know any of them had spent time as a senator...
Or that they went the schools barry did and learned what he learned.

Daniels isn't ignorant, he showed that he wasn't way back a long time ago, the problem is you are blind and can't see past Lady Gaga's meat dress.

This is funny, say others are distracted by a celebrity singer when that is exactly what CD is...
The irony is real in that statement.

He is a great musician, I do agree with you there. He will be remembered for his music.

But does that some how turn him into this figure that we should listen to on politics?

then I saw a man stand up and say "Epiphany, cling to God and guns" and then everything that came since.

And by saw you mean read on a right wing website.
Strange how I can't track down a video of that.

Aw geez, another shipwreck manifesto by a redneck has been singer.

Nobody cares what a washed up celebrity has to say about politics. Charlie Daniels and his ilk are an embarrassment to this country.

Actually... Come to think of it, I've been looking for some good rock songs to learn for campfire jamming, but I usually have to transcribe a song written for guitar (a tedious process) or learn the chords and just do strum patterns over a chord progression. Since the fiddle is tuned exactly the same as a mandolin (I already know a few classic fiddle tunes like Old Joe Clark), I may actually attempt to learn Devil Went Down to Georgia. Be a good way to increase my picking speed.

Oh Sremmo, you can't be serious.

Obama was a JUNIOR senator from Illinois and was rank and file. Do you know what that means?

It means he was NEW and that he wasn't spectacular at being a senator. All he did was make speeches. Apparently you don't understand American politics, so let me help you...ok.

OK, three years as Senator, meaning that he didn't even fulfill his full term as Senator from Illinois.

Even as Senator, he had the WORST voting record...

Govtrack

From Jan 2005 to Oct 2008, Obama missed 314 of 1,300 roll call votes, which is 24.2%. This is much worse than the median of 2.2% among the lifetime records of senators serving in Oct 2008. The chart below reports missed votes over time.

He couldn't even do his job as Senator right.

And his own bills he sponsored, he went against his own bills as President. Imagine that.

I want you to look at this particular bill and then remind yourself of the IRS scandal...

S. 2484 (109th Congress, 2005–2006) Text of the Protecting Taxpayer Privacy Act

Now you tell me, how is it good that the man violates his own sponsored bill?

But looking at the bills he sponsored, the fact that he missed almost 25% of voting rolls, only served three years as a Senator, someone thought that he would be a good idea as President.

Protecting Taxpayer Privacy Act

Or how about this one
Legislation on Sanctions Against Iran

In the text, of the bill Obama sponsored...

(7) Targeted financial measures represent one of the strongest non-military tools available to convince the Government of Iran that it can no longer afford to engage in dangerous, destabilizing activities such as its nuclear weapons program and its support for terrorism.

Terrible, terrible. Obama sponsors a bill that claims Iran is building nuclear weapons,

Following Iran’s failure to comply with Resolution 1737, on March 24, 2007, the United Nations Security Council unanimously approved Resolution 1747, to tighten sanctions on Iran, imposing a ban on arms sales and expanding the freeze on assets, in response to the country’s uranium-enrichment activities.

THIS was his sponsored bill. Well, did Obama get his information from Fox News?

Oh, Indy. You know I love ya and have a lot of respect for you....but......

NO. Nono, Obama NEVER said that. But EVERYONE knows that Fox is PROPAGANDA for the right wing. Fox "News" has WRECKED several of my family members' sanity. They are the "Rush Limbaugh" and "Glenn Beck" of TV. The "Sean Hannity" and "Megyn Kelly" and "Bill O'Reilly" characters are very MUCH paid to push the GOP line. The conservative line. They are the 'news outlet' for the equivalent of "The 700 Club"!! They are the laughing stock of the "news" media.

Fox is NOT genuine news. Please stop watching them. Or at least do a search for how often they have outright lied, and who their 'backers' are........

FOX NEWS IS INDEED SO BAD.
