I stumbled upon this young mans video about a 40w homemade laser 'shotgun' he made. I wish I had the technology background to make fun toys like this. I wanted to share this with ATS simply because it looks like fun to play make and find things to destroy.

Who doesn't like to find things to blow up?!?

Well, I believe that this has to be one of the most fantastic ideas I have ever heard of! I love that he put a close range adaptor on the thing, because focusing all those beams onto a single spot through it is a great way to bring the effective range on the item down, for precision use... Hehe!

Anyway, I want one, perhaps several.

What I really want to do is build a concave mount for several clusters of these lasers, and a focusing lens to capture all the laser light and focus it on a specific point. There are so many different kinds of fun I could have with something like that!

I looks cool and everything. Probably expensive.
But there are commercially available flashlights that will light paper on fire.

It is only 100 watts.

That's a cool laser gun, but I'm still curious about the moth. Was that thing real??

Destructive?

Well yes, that is always a source of amusement. But assuming one could build the device well enough, one could develop a ground drone to carry it and point its power straight downward. This would allow potential testing of the system for use in a variety of applications, like ground ice clearance, thermal cleaning of high strength coated flooring and so on.

It would also be a bad ass fire lighter for when you want to start barbecuing either really late, stupidly early, or during really inopportune weather events!

Interesting... but..

He really needs to add some sound effects to go with the beam.

Pew pew pew!

I'm going to build something similar in the next several months.

But I want to streamline it. Make a cooling assembly, and more sustainable power.

That is fantastic. I want one. Reminds me of something out of Fallout, but maybe that's just because I've got Fallout 4 on the brain after the announcement. If somebody can build a laser weapon in his home so easily, why is anyone still using metal bullets at this point? Technology is amazing.

We will be reading about this kid in 100 years as the father of the lazer rifle..

Because in a 100 years from now everyone will have one..
