And we were on my 20 questions thread. And it reminded me of a conspiracy theory I had forgotten about from my youth . It involves both the Onassis family and the Kennedy family . I will give a synopsis from memory but I cannot attest to being 100% accurate although it will lead you in the right direction if you're interested .

It starts with opium running in South America and extends past and involves the Kennedy assassination . It involves Fidel Castro, newspaper editors, Bigoil and senators among others . Honestly I had forgotten most of it but I am going to look into it again . I first heard about it in the mid-70s.

I just wanted to bring this to peoples attention in case they hadn't heard about it. And I'm going to be curious after people do research whether they can continue to tie it in to today's events .

The gemstone file was written in many segments over a period of years by an American man named Bruce Roberts. Parts of the file were released to certain Americans beginning in 1969. The number of handwritten pages is well over a thousand, of which I have read about four hundred. I do not have the time of the research facilities to verify the entire story. Perhaps others can help.

Since the scope of the work is so large, and the events described so complex and interlocking, it may be more easily understood with this skeleton outline of the gemstone thesis. Individual papers can then be read with greater comprehension.

1932: Onassis, a Greek drug pusher and ship owner who made his first million selling "Turkish tobacco" (Opium) in Argentina, worked out a profitable deal with Joseph Kennedy, Eugene Meyer, and Meyer Lansky. Onassis was to ship booze directly into Boston for Joseph Kennedy. Also involved was a heroin deal with Franklin and Elliott Roosevelt.

1934: Onassis, Rockefeller and the Seven Sisters (major oil companies) signed an agreement, outlined an oil cartel memo: Beat the Arabs out of their oil, ship it on Onassis's ships; Rockefeller and the Seven Sisters to get rich. All this was done.

It won't let me edit my post . So pretend I put all the information in a quotation And here's the source ......

gemstone file

It's over a 1000 page handwritten manuscript that has been researched thoroughly. Like I said in the title some people think this is where all modern conspiracies began and it factually supports many from what I remember .

^^^^^^^ LOL

I think I'm a little handicapped by my memory. I haven't looked into it in a while but my god look at the names and organizations in my OP. This Theory takes everyone who was anyone or who will be anyone and ties it up in a neat little bundle .

At the very least it is a fascinating and mind expanding read .

No problem SM, like I said I had forgotten it. But when it was prompted I figured it would be right up ATS's alley.

But it is telling how this old-school theory still holds up today .

Yes it is and I'm intrigued. Here's an interesting little snippet:

There is no question that Bruce Porter Roberts existed. His San Francisco obituary reports that he was survived by a daughter and brother, and there are at least two photographs of him, one with entertainer Carmen Miranda.

Bruce Robert may have been nothing more than a paranoid schizophrenic, as demonstrated by excerpts seen in Martin Cannon’s Exposed at last: The Real Gemstone File (2001), but the Skeleton Key has become an archetype for unified global conspiracy theories. Richard Alan’s The Gemstone File, Sixty Years of Corruption and Manipulation. (1992) and Gerald Carroll’s Project Seek: Onassis, Kennedy and the Gemstone Thesis (1994) both purport to provide documentation of the truth of Roberts' accusations. An anonymous New Zealand writer (identified as Anthony Pollock in wikipedia) produced a lengthy continuation called The Kiwi Gemstone, or The Opal File, in 1988, and there have been at least one spy novel and five non-fiction books on the topic.

He might have been someone simply obsessed with the mafia and the "big players" like the Kennedy's, Howard Hughes, and Onassis, but much of the commentary goes right along with history at the time. (I think..... history is not my strong point).

It doesn't surprise me at all that someone would label him psychotic . The problem is with that label as you said the timeline fits and parts of it have been independently verified.

.... and it actually might have been one of the first really big "conspiracy theories".

I'm not sure I will ever be able to accept that Mary Jo Kopechne was intentionally murdered, though.

Mary Jo Kopechne was an American teacher, secretary, and political campaign specialist who died in a car accident at Chappaquiddick Island on July 18, 1969, while a passenger in a car being driven by U.S. Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy.

Her death is a entire conspiracy by it's self.

I know an old joke about it. It wasn't political correct then and it is definitely not PC now. Do you want to hear it anyway?

The FBI figured out that Ted was doing 90 miles an hour when he went off the bridge .

It was the only way they could explain her panties being in the glove box .

Ted is a legend in my mind !!!

Excellent thread, Greathouse! I had heard of the Gemstone Theory at some point, but I had no idea what it entailed. I only vaguely remembered it after it confounded me and ultimately doomed me in the 20 questions round. And I didn't know that it was related to the Kennedy family until you clarified it.
Thanks!

One thing I'm finding uncanny about it. Is that it was written in 1975 and most of the people mentioned in it went on to amass a lot of power. Ted Sorenson for one , Hell he Got nominated to head the CIA and he even endorsed Obama in 2007.

Makes me wonder why it came out in 1975 and he was dead in 1976 ?
