Why You Never Saw The CIA’s Interrogation Tapes

As FRONTLINE details in tonight’s new documentary, Secrets, Politics and Torture, those tapes would never see the light of day. Their destruction was ordered by Jose Rodriguez, then the CIA’s top operations officer.

“I was told, if those videotapes had ever been seen, the reaction around the world would not have been survivable,” Jane Mayer of The New Yorker tells FRONTLINE.

Who or what wouldn't have survived? The CIA? The US Government? It amazes me that the American people continue to remain this oblivious to crimes of the CIA, stretching back decades.

The invaders of blah blah Middle-Eastern country were Americans.

See how it works both ways? The only difference is, the mass media has whipped you and a certain segment of the population into a froth-mouthed frenzy when it comes to Muslims. We don't even have the common courtesy to declare war against a country; we just pop in and start blowing # up.

Why don't we declare war on the countries we invade? Because their governments didn't do anything, and we have no business being there.

Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but isn't that the whole point in governments having classified information? So its citizens don't find out what it's really doing?

Also, there are a lot of Americans who do know what the CIA & other intelligence agencies. Same for our special forces & our covert missions around the world. Because it's other Americans who are doing these things, authorizing them, and covering them up. So the real question is why won't these Americans share that info with the rest of us, so we can be informed enough to do something about it?

I do wish they'd release these tapes though.

I would have to say the same thing about the 911 security camera video tapes from surrounding businesses. There's a reason those tapes were never shown to the public. If the OS was true, why not prove it and let the tapes speak for themselves?

I agree there would have been an outrage around the world if those interrogation tapes were released. Our government knows when their best interests would be at stake. They've with held evidence before.

It didn't matter than so I doubt it'll make much difference now. Besides, Jose Rodriguez was just the fall guy. I'm sure he was paid handsomely.

Even if the agents of the America are wandering about the rest of the world murdering any and everyone that they care to, stealing the resources of any or every other nation and shipping the spoils back home for us to enjoy, and fomenting revolution, rebellion and puppet governments everywhere they can to report back to DC, America will always be in the "right" as long as she can continue to defeat all that oppose her militarily and/or financially. Like they say, might makes right! The problem comes when enough "others" get pissed off and motivated enough to defeat the ;Whore of the Harbor" outright and then what happens is what happened in 1945 when all the good little "order followers" become "war criminals" and are dangled at the end of a rope for the sport and the entertainment of the victorious masses.

Personally, I do believe that after WWII, the victorious Allies suffered from what is one of the pitfalls of war, they defeated their enemy, absorbed them, and then became them. After all, you are what you eat...

If these people are so guilty,then instead of using torture (which by our own laws is prohibited),charge them,bring them to court,and let the law have its way. It does no country ANY good to have laws if said country has no intention of following them. When you 'bend' those laws for 'special circumstances' the laws no longer apply. Then just take the constitution and burn it and stop ACTING like your a law abiding American. Because your not.

Charge them with what? Being a victim? Before we assume every one was a terrorist let's not forget innocent American and Canadian Muslims got swept up and flown off to black sites to be tortured before eventually being released and receiving a scant apology.

That's why Guantanamo still exists. There are prisoners that can't be charged with any crime but deemed to high a risk to release (likely from being tortured). Others can't be charged because the evidence wouldn't be admissible in court (probably due to torture).

Before we assume every one was a terrorist let's not forget innocent American and Canadian Muslims got swept up and flown off to black sites to be tortured before eventually being released and receiving a scant apology.

And that is exactly why you don't go outside the law. If they had been charged with crimes,then a lawyer would have been given to them,and they would have got to stand trial and let either a judge or jury decide if they were guilty. Instead with no charges they just grabbed them and tortured them in the 'hopes' of getting info. This is a HUGE shame against this country. If you have to break your own laws to do something,it wasn't worth it. And then to add insult to injury,those tortured never really gave up any info that was useful,only before they were tortured. This is a black spot on America and Americans.

I really don't think there would be worldwide outrage if videos were released of suspected terrorists being waterboarded. So what is shown in these videos that is so explosive? The rape and murder of the children of the suspected terrorists right in front of them? If it got the interrogators what they wanted, such acts might be considered justified by those in charge. Don't put it past them.
