Saudi Arabia will join the nuclear club by buying “off the shelf” atomic weapons from Pakistan, US officials told a London newspaper.

The Saudis — who financed much of Pakistan’s nuke program — are fearful of international efforts to keep its enemy Iran from acquiring a bomb, the Sunday Times of London reports. The Saudis think the deal, backed by President Obama, will actually accelerate Iran’s nuke push.

Saudi Arabia has talked for years about acquiring a bomb from the Pakistanis. “The House of Saud has now made the strategic decision to move forward,” a former US defense official said.

I wouldn't be surprised if Saudi Arabia already has nukes given from the US. Nukes from Pakistan is the latest addition to its collection.

The Saudi's bought and paid for the Pakistani nuclear Program in exchange for Sunni beliefs and religious support and probably one or two of their nukes so I imagine they already have some tucked away.

I think you would be giving Obama too much credit to say "he started an arms race in the middle east"

Louis CK gave a pretty quick rundown of that in his (in)famous monologue on SNL last night. To say Obama caused / started / accelerated / (insert word here) an arms race is pretty much stretching it to the brink.

No problem. I should clarify my last post because arms races with nukes aren't exactly run of the mill races. But 500 years ago a million man army was kinda like the nuke of that time period 😊

Obama had a hand but honestly he isn't smart enough to be mastermind if a ham sandwich.

Yes his advisors told him to enter a situation where Iran will get nukes, thus Saudi wants them as well.

But saying Obama is the "mastermind" is a stretch.

Certainly has shown negotiation won't work over there. In the absence of a strong America, others will gain strength in themselves.

Saudi has nukes.... Its supremely naive that one of the top 3 richest nations with enemy all around doesn't have them.

This is all very predictable.

This is what everybody was worried about once official recognition (or implicit tentative acceptance) is offered by the west for the proliferation of nuclear weapons. That can be squarely blamed on the indecisiveness of the current administration and, frankly, the entire western world.

That said, A. Q. Khan sold weapons and technology to North Korea and myriad other hostile state and, presumably, non-state actors long ago.

You could, and you may be partially right. But if we had a president who puffed his chest with the Merika stick a'waggin we may have been in the middle of an actual war by now. I'll take the cold for today and see who can start to mop up next year (hopefully its not the blood of millions)
