To say it is extremely racist is a stretch. It was needed for a while, you have to remember the context of how it came about. Could it go away now? Possibly.

And not sure how you can say growing up poor ans back gives you a better chance to succede.

That it was , but so are KKK speeches.

You find KKK speeches empowering, good and positive?

Being that I'm not white I guess if that would be true , then that would make me a Clayton Bigsby type.

Sounds to me as if she gave a passoonate and honest speech, it's only the right wingers who seem to be making this into something it isn't.

You know, I'm getting real sick and tired of seeing other white people suggesting this or that about how black people should just deal with it, or stop complaining, or that things "aren't that bad".

If you're white, you don't get to b**ch about this as if you have a clue.
If you're white, you know nothing about what black people actually have to deal with, and you have no right pretending that you know. You do not know, because you CAN'T know.

Unless you changed color at some time in your life, you have no idea what a black person has to deal with in their everyday life, and therefore you are in absolutely no position to start making claims about what is reasonable when it comes to their opinions on racism.

The same goes for any group, unless you are a part of that group you have no place claiming you understand the difficulties they face.

As a white person, I'm getting REALLY fed up with all this white privilege, it's BS espoused by a group of incredibly arrogant people who - being white Americans - probably haven't experienced any form of genuine bigotry in their whole damn lives, yet feel entitled to dictate to another group how they should feel.

Maybe if white people sat down, shut up, and stopped telling the victims of racism how wrong they are these speeches wouldn't still be needed in 2015!

Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama has made numerous racially-charged statements in the past, but none so atrocious as her commencement speech at Alabama’s Tuskegee University on Saturday.

The historically black school welcomed the First Lady’s obscene comments, cheering as she implied over and over again that they will always judged by the color of their skin by their white colleagues.

On Saturday, Michelle Obama gave the commencement speech at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Although she is the first black first lady married to the first black president who was elected twice by a majority white electorate, with a cabinet that includes the the first (and second) black Atorneys General, a black Secretary of Homeland Security, a black National Security Advisor, a black Senior Advisor to the President and a black Supreme Court Justice (although he doesn’t count), listening to her comments, you’d think we were still living under (the Democrat-supported) Jim Crow laws before the Civil Rights Act (which more Republicans supported) and are not far from the days of slavery (which a Republican president worked to abolish).

Where she had an opportunity from her lofty position to heal some national wounds and speak of how far we have all come together, how she is living testament to what anyone can achieve in this nation, regardless of color, she chose instead to recount her own personal struggles with racism. Mrs. Obama mentioned in particular the insensitive media questions and derogatory remarks from political pundits that she said have kept her up at night.

Why does she continue to do this?

Please keeep this discussion civil. Thank you advance!

Your request...I will be as civil as I can. If you think white people make life tough for black people, then you need to realize how black people make life tough on white people. I won't go into it...but it involves violent crime, drugs, murder, riots, etc. Let alone being the largest group of racists in the USA.

But on to the civil part. This woman has had a wealthy life of convenience. She is no one to talk about oppression. Her husband has thrown black people back twenty years and is helping (knowingly or not) create MORE civil unrest and racism than existed when he took office. Obama, Holder and I would guess Michelle are some of the biggest racists in this country. Know how they say to "follow the money"? With this group, "Judge them by actions, not words". With them...they are never, ever the same.

And when you read the other half of the posts about how now half of you hate us just because of who we are ... maybe you'd understand why we feel that suspicion.

Um what?

Tell her that her husband makes life tough for ALL Americans. Seriously, what is wrong with these people? It is like they want to divide people and foment resentment. Someone in her position should be above that kind of statement.

Maybe its because you can take the black woman out of the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto out of the black woman.

It's a mentality thats been driven home to deep that they are "owed something" for slavery 170 years ago and that slavery still exists and is loved within the heart of every white man.

She and her husband have got to be the highest of the high, yet they still are not content.

They still don't say "Look at me I'm black and I'm the president. White and black people voted me in power. Rascism ended years ago."

There was NOTHING wrong with her speech and the folks that got offended by this speech are the ones that won't that stick their head in the ground repeating the brainwashing mantra of 'it's in the past, get over it!'

And she is talking to the folks at Tuskegee and telling them what lies out there for them when they cross that stage. You know what i've seen personally, especially here in ATS? Folks will hyperventilate when a black person is pro black, there is nothing wrong with loving your people.

Sorry but your going to have to get over it, black folks are still an oppressed minority, and are treated the same as poor white folks. And until things like gerrymandering, stop and frisk, and illegal traffic stops are are dealt with, your still going to have this divide.

Get over it, the america you see on tv or read about in the news was never real.

Affirmative action was something that was truly needed, I agree. We have reached a point where black people are and can be in every position of business/government. We give jobs based on intellect and value, not skin color.

The only color that matters these days is the color GREEN.

The reason why I say poor blacks have a better chance is for a few reasons.

1. Affirmative action - this requires that blacks be hired to a certain extent regardless of whether or not they are the most qualified person. When you factor in that poor whites greatly outnumber poor blacks, you can start to understand why being poor and white is far more difficult.

2. Black specific grants/scholarships - there are no white specific grants/scholarships...the people who need these the most are POOR people. So if blacks are a smaller percentage of the population, but have a greater number of scholarships available to them, they have a much better chance at succeeding.

3. Political Correctness - Liberals/Progressives have coined this term white guilt. This does affect a lot of people making them feel like they need to make up for things they didn't do. This alone has a great impact every day on the charitable donations white people give to black causes. These donations and opportunities out of white guilt give poor black kids more chances to escape poverty.

So yes...growing up poor and black NOWADAYS is easier than growing up poor and white.

What do yall know about her life?

Guess it is easy to say she doesn't know any oppression when you just assume that you know it as the truth.

Do I think she lived a better life then some? Sure. Doesn't mean she didn't catch some of what she is talking about along the way.

Double standards again ATS.

You have deleted my thread when I provided factual information about lynching of blacks. Saying it was racial bait thread.

Now there is a thread where someone has stretched the truth of what was exactly said in order to rile up the white right wing people of ATS..yet no deletion of thread.

I will continue to call ATS on this until Mods use their powers equally.

Yeah Michelle, the $3,000,000 she earns every year puts her right down there on skid row with the welfare families...And her husband, the POTUS...He is just sooooo oppressed you can feel it every time he gets out of Airforce one.

no, once again someone talking about something they know nothing about. it's not about entitlement or free handouts, it's about people that are suppose to follow something called the constitution when it was penned and ratified. but what i do find hilarious is when people think that hundreds of years of prejudice, bigotry and out right murder to simply disappear in less than a lifetime.

So what should we do...give every black in America a $1,000,000 cheque and a sorry note...

What happened, happened. History cannot be changed. However a whole nation cannot spend the rest of it's future history walking on egg shells to avoid offending black Americans for the huge chip they carry on their shoulders.

It's time to move on, as a nation.

There are black people with engough intelligence to realise that the "feeling sorry for themselves" cannot go on.

Those that wish to continue living in the past will do so because they enjoy the self inflicted martyrdom while the rest of modern, intelligent black America moves onwards and upwards, producing more great doctors, lawyers, profesors etc.

The rest will stay in their self imposed ghetto martyrdom blaming the white man.

No. We need to acknowledge that it's not a fair playing field though and we also need to acknowledge the past. That's it. Simple.
