The actual measured units (fl.oz.) are different in the states.
So, any wee tricks that I know wouldn't work in the US because the relative sizes are different.

I've just had a quick look, and nearest I can figure...

To get millilitres you would multiply the US fl.oz. by 29.6?

I would suggest multiplying the fl.oz. by 30 ( the nearest whole number)

So, 6 fl.oz. = (6x30)ml = 180ml
25 fl.oz = (25x30)ml = 750ml
100 fl.oz. = (100x30)ml = 3000ml = 3litres -ish!! (within about 1.5% accuracy)

The other way round...

To get US fl.oz. from Litres (or millilitres)
1 Litre = 1000ml = 34fl.oz. So, you would multiply the Litres by 34 to get fl.oz.
so
0.5L = 500ml = (0.5 x 34) = 17fl.oz.
0.25L = 250ml = (0.25 x 34) = 8.5fl.oz.
and
5L = 5000ml = (5 x 34) = 170fl.oz.

That's not so easy, but is quite accurate.

It's okay Kat! It is a disorder...a legitimate thing...I suffer from it as well.
Dyscalculia

Short answer is this:

a reply to: crappiekat

Simplified version:

To get cm from inches, just multiply the amount of inches by 2 and a half.

To get inches from cm, just remember that every 10cm is 4 inches.

To get millilitres from fluid ounces, just multiply the fl.oz. by 30.

To get fluid ounces from Litres, just multiply the amount of Litres by 34.

PS - If it helps? there are automatic converters online.... EG fl oz to LitresHERE

It is none of my business apparently all though I am schooled in both systems. But you are not being foolish and it is complicated, very. even with a Masters degree and accounting background it was/is hard for me. Perhaps because I find it utterly illogical.
Ok, you have to make visual assessment as far as I understand? Carry a tape measurer with you at all times and look at it, measure things, write it down, feel it. If you have to make cross over comparisons carry two, Metric and Imperial.
Hang them side by side on your fridge, saturate your senses with them.

We had to memorize, calculate and create hundreds of recipe's in our sleep. Not only recipe's but use, weight and seasons of thousands of types of produce.
I am trying to encourage you here. You can do it. Take baby steps, one millimeter at a time.
BTW I hate math, I failed all through school but still managed to ace when I had hands on experience. Math is not "normal".

This is like building a brick wall.

I saw a video the other day that reminded me of you.

Be careful out there.

I would really like to know just exactly what the hell the guy and the operator of the commuter train were thinking by him standing there. He had to no more than a foot or so away from an active mainline. If he would have been paying any attention to if anything was approaching from behind. He could have seen that other guy breathing up his ass. It's crap like this why I don't wear hearing protection and why I carry a scanner when I'm out train watching.

The ghosts or pixies are it again! I would have said hello and posted a reply, but I swear I did not see you when you posted!!!!!!!! I wasn't ignoring you Chooch. Hello and sorry I missed you earlier. When I saw someone replied to you, I had to go check back and see where the hell you posted.

It must be those damn ghosts once again!! I can't say much of anything about missing or just not seeing posts either. Hell I had to go back and dig through what Skid Mark sent me. Then again, I don't really post all that much on ATS in general.

Is the scanner like the type people use to pick up police and fire calls? I take it that you know which track to avoid and when a train's coming through because of broadcasts on one. That's cool.

It's the very same ones you can use to monitor police, fire, and EMS traffic over the air. I hear what track they are on and I make sure to stay at least fifteen feet away from whichever main track is active. Where I'm on mostly double track mainlines rail fanning most of the time. I have a scanner to warn me if there is one coming on the opposite main in either the opposite or same direction as the previous train. That way I'll know whether or not I need to move or stay put.

It's only three in the morning mom!!!!!! LOL It's actually pretty late and I need to start going to bed at a decent hour. That's so I don't sleep until one in the afternoon!!

I got started into the hobby thanks to my dad. He got me started on them, I would say, around about the time I turned two or three years old. Every great once in a while he get out and watch them with me nowadays. Guess I get to continue the tradition since I've gotten my two year old nephew watching them now.
