So basically your saying there are no real Christians, because I've never met some one like you described.

Ugh.

This went totally over your head.

There are real Christians all around you.

The Christians who tolerate your anger and resentment and still love you and show you kindness.

The Christians who go to confession frequently and admit face to face not only the fact that they are sinners, but all of their sins. They are real.

You choose your company. If you don't know any Christians who try and practice what they preach, then you are deliberately not associating with Christians.

What is most telling to me in this thread is that Christian bashers expect Christians to be perfected individuals and delight in pointing out the very real fact that they are not.

"I have not come for the healthy, but for the sick.....I have not come for the righteous, but for sinners."

Christians know and intuitively understand that Jesus is speaking to them in their sin and their sickness.

It is OK to see Christians as sinful people - because they ARE.

It is not OK to fault them for clinging to, and following the Truth that frees them from those ails.

He's one of those speak in tongues charismatic dudes. I guess he worked with Kenneth Copeland for awhile. Really bizarre charismatic stuff. I've yet to see him roll around on the floor yet though.

Copeland? I've never met a man in person that gave me the creeps like Copeland. And I was a Christian at the time.

Yeah, it takes an open mind to let someone ramble (literally in tongues in your Step fathers case) and not let it affect you or your understandings. What he thinks doesn't matter, so no need to engage him on it.

Yeah.. me too. It was really awkward when I found out he did sound management and mission trips with the guy. It was one Saturday morning when I was listening to a Christian podcast about him. The host was calling out Copeland for this that and the other thing. He came in and started listening. Then started getting offended.

edit on 4-15-2015 by WakeUpBeer because: changed some words. used "guy" too much lol

A real Christian will tell you that he is no better than you.
A real Christian will acknowledge that he is a sinner, and is not worthy of seeing the Face of God.
A real Christian does not put your sins above his.
A real Christian does not see himself as better than anyone.

You say all of this, and then you say this...

What you absolutely fail to see, or acknowledge, is that Christians appreciate those who are honestly and sincerely making the attempt to walk a better path - to turn from sin, to repent, to honestly try and sin no more, to avoid that which leads him to sin, and equally important - to be merciful to others.

...and nullify everything you said previously.
Why do I need to walk a better path, turn from sin, repent, and sin no more, when I don't believe in these biblical teachings to begin with? They are Christian. Not secular. They have nothing to do with me. This is one of the many issues with Christianity I have. They project their beliefs on everyone else, and expect those who aren't Christian to live by Christian doctrine. Presumptuous is not a strong enough word to describe the arrogance displayed by this kind of world-view.

You don't need to do ANY of that. You were given free will to do whatever you want.

It is common that anti-Christians apply everything to themselves. Me, Me, Me!

I wasn't referring to you - I was talking about Christians who make the conscious choice to try and live outside of their personal wants ans whims.

Get over yourself and go live your life.

Yeah, he has some rambles. But he also has some good insights and positive messages to share. As well as Biblical knowledge and interpretations. They just have a Christian slant I don't agree with. I didn't mean to make it sound like he is a crazy fundy. Just very passionate about his beliefs and is willing to share with those who are willing to listen. He's never tried shoving anything down my throat.

I wouldn't have given my mom my blessing to marry him if I didn't like him.

Edit:

Shoomba loomba lamba dothraki. Translation:
The speaking in tongues thing, I do think is crazy.

I know what you were talking about. The last part of your post made it perfectly clear.

To people who absolutely don't care about trying any of those things, and to people who live for themselves first and foremost, this is viewed as an act of arrogance with an air of superiority.

It is impossible to see eye to eye with a man who insists that you are an asshole for trying to live a moral life.

I don't see Christians I know in my circle of friends, (I attend a mega church)
who are trying to control anyones personal lives,
other than the lives of their underage, at home children,
which all parents have a right to do, regardless of their religion or political bent.

They should not be trying to "control" their children, either! Teach them? Sure. Nurture them? Absolutely. Tell them they are loved and valuable?? Has to be done.

And NO -
ADULTS do NOT have "A RIGHT" to mistreat their children.

Children are not property.

You see it works both ways and if we can't trust each other or can't be honest in what we say or trust in what others tell us then there is no point in talking in the first place is there???
I hope you got an applause for that post.

What does it even mean? Is it even possible? Trying to be a better person and using the teachings of Christ to do so doesn't sound too lousy to me.

Nope. It sounds just right.

I wish more people understood this.

There would be no hacking, suctioning and discarding of children in the womb.

There would be no turkey-basting injections and petri-dish creations of children who are either implanted to manufacture a family, or sold to research facilities when no longer needed for IVF procedures.

There would be no 'one weekend at mommies, one weekend at daddies' because we have 50-50 custody.

Ugh.

ETA - there would also be no more dropping children off at daycare at 7:00am and picking them up at 6:00pm cause "I want a career too!"

That's an important one.

I'm an atheist. I really don't hate anyone.

Which is a lot more than I can say for Christians, who typically hate many different groups.

Gays, blacks, immigrants, the poor, the sick, etc etc etc. The list goes on, and on, and on.

If Christians feel that they are hated, they only have themselves to blame.

It's amazing the amount of hatred in Christianity, considering they call themselves the religion of love.

It's impossible to see eye to eye because even when you answer a question that you're being asked and all you get back is someone calling you a liar, that isn't a conversation happening.

Exactly.

That is an inquisition.

People are free to view their children as a gift, or as their personal property.

God grants them that freedom.

Our current government also grants women the freedom to execute children in their own wombs.

Nope! No.

PEOPLE are not PERSONAL PROPERTY of other people. No matter what age they are. They are not the 'property' of ANYONE.

I was referring to "there would also be no more dropping children off at daycare at 7:00am and picking them up at 6:00pm cause "I want a career too!". But I guess the answer is similar.

So your opinion is the woman's place is at home, making babies, in the kitchen? Just curious. That's what it sounded like by your comment.

However, I could be wrong.
