So how much can we actually count on the USA to be on our side?

Good question isn't it?

Let's look at this from a historical perspective.

When we were at war, trying to survive, in the great war, where was the USA? They sent us boats right? Absolute neutrality was the order of the day though.

They came and saved the day in 1917-18 just as we were all finished.

WWII. Not until the Japanese actually bombed Pearl Harbour did they deem to help their closest and best ally. Their richest families did help the Germans AND the British though, with finance. Not a word about the German expansion pre-Poland.

So my question is simple. How much can we rely on our "Best Friends" to look after us when it has been clearly demonstrated historically that they basically don't give a #e about us?

I didn't mention the Falklands, Korea or all those other minor inconveniences for a reason.

I bring this up because I can honestly see a European wide war in the not too distant future, and I can see American isolationism as the response.

Fed up and angry.

So to sum it up

America tries to help..they are horrible , angry , conquering , invading and the devil.
America doesnt help...they are horrible, passive, evading, ignoring and the devil.

I'm afraid you will have to beef up your own military now.
My leaders are unreliable and have lost their credibility ,our military would gladly step up ,but politics will rule the day.
Judging by how they are sitting on their hands I would expect you to be reinvaded by the middle east before Russia goes off however.
The gift of the PROGRESSIVES I 'm afraid, while they attempt to "transform"our country socially.

Will it though? I think the opportunity will be upon us sooner rather than later you see. So I hope you are right, because now, more than any time in our history, I think we may actually need it.

I think you may be right about politics, and that is in fact the whole point of the thread, politically, USA has never really backed UK politically in time of need.

Governments tend to be out of touch on the will of the people of a Country so, at a guess, the US will only help if it is in their favour rather than a moral one.

Plenty of US citizens joined the fight in Europe against the Nazi's.

you think we are great, I used to tell my kids in the 80sd 90s 2000 etc that Britain was the greatest country on earth as no one goes hungry, I can't say that anymore. Children go hungry and teachers have to bring in food to feed them to stop them fainting during lessons, A type one diabetic had benefit stopped because he was 5 minutes late, if a type 1 diabetic does not eat he goes into a coma and dies, this guy died with an empty bellie, we are ethnically cleansing the poor from London, You may think Britain is great I think its a # hole full of greedy uncaring people. A country full of hate, some one hates some other group and combined they all hate the poor and disabled. Im ashamed to call myself British

To this statement I think the best answer would be to let Russia conquer Europe. Live in the hills boy, live in the hills

I don't blame you. Look at how many times we invaded and abandoned Iraq to their own devices? After all you and the Middle East are a long way from America's Homeland. After all, the two big moats called the Pacific and Atlantic protect the North American Continent.

After all the battleground is Europe, not the US, after all.

And all this hate is driven by our government and and spread by the media. I honestly could not care what happens to the UK, who ever took it over or ran it would not be any worse than it is now, a nation that punishes the poor and starves children to make up for losses of gambling banks is not worth saving, and none of my boys will ever go to war to defend it.

The people are fed a diet of Royal rubbish, this week it was a Royals husband who's horse won the Grand National with a horse he bought while on a piss up, next week it will be wills and his missus as though them having another child is great to rejoice whilst people can't afford to feed their own children

Trust me there is nothing great about great britain

Much worst places to live and don't give me all that about the olden days.. # still went on and # will always go on it is just more reported.
I happen to think the world is getting better, I think people are waking up and we will see massive change soon enough but no matter what the politics are I sure am glad I'm a Brit...I still think the people are kind and caring and most of us would get on with anyone in the world.
But I live up north much more friendly folk up north.
I don't know anyone who hates the poor and definitely not the disabled...maybe because I work with the disabled and am poor lol.

And that is the point I wanted to make, can we count on the USA to have our back, historically not so much.

Have we defended them, I think there is no question that we have, both in word AND deed. I don't have the same confidence of reciprocity. If ya mate has got ya back one day, you got his back the next...right? That is my question. I wanted to know how US citizens felt about it. So far I have seen a mix, but nothing resembling absolute backing, weird that isn't it?

What happened during the Falkland war btw? did the Americans do anything to help either side?...never really thought of the question?.

I think the proper question is not would we but should we. It is my firm opinion that you guys never learn. We have events again playing out very similar to World War II. And what does Europe do ? Once again they practice appeasement.

Help you with what? This generic line of questioning is making me feel horrible, angry, perhaps a bit conquering, definitely invading and the devil is in the lack of details...

But I am a Britophile if that helps? Send a striking little bird my way to talk in my ear and I will gladly fight fer yer queen!
