perhaps its because they know the intentions and the objective of the US.

Did not Paul Wolfowitz, the neoconservative who was Deputy Secretary of Defense under the Bush regime say something along the lines of the first objective of the US is to stop the rise of a super power that could rival the US?

Perhaps China might also think that the US might see them as that power so they are taking precautions to protect themselves.

Try to keep it on topic. This thread is about Chinese territorial expansion in the South China Sea. Not Libya, NATO etc. You're like a record repeating. Stuck on the same message. Every thread you visit. Tedium.

The tedium is posters that keep claiming other countries are violating the "rules" by securing resources outside their borders (in International waters) and all the while ignoring the real expansionist empires like the US, EU (NATO) that conquer and occupy whole nations.

China in the South China Sea does not hold a candle to US violations of those "rules" you espouse.

The OP is about China and their territorial shenanigans in the South China Sea. However, I would be happy for you to indicate territory invaded and occupied by NATO, à la Tibet and Crimea.

Which is WHY the US is pivoting to oppose them in the Pacific.
They have been more aggressive lately.

We haven't the assets to pursue such a policy and seek containment only.
The pacific states don't have the military to defend against China ,so we are seeking containment.

That is what an EEZ is It allows a nation to secure resources outside its borders and ONLY in maritime environments. An EEZ, contrary to Chinese thinking, does not create sovereign territory. Neither does expanding islands either.

I guess we'll also ignore the thousands of oil rigs other nations sprout everywhere in International waters?

The whole focus on China for these little Islands in the "South China Sea" is propaganda to put China in a bad light.

Carry on…

Once Obama is out of the WH and if a Republican or even Hillary type democrat comes to power, matters will become more hostile for Russia, Iran, Syria etc.

On the other hand, China is a commie loser country that shows its power to only small nations and on issues that has nothing to do with Chinese interests or national security. Russia is acting in Ukraine for strategic and military interests. Iran wants nukes because it fears Iraq like treatment by the western powers.

But China for no reason is trying to bully small nations and wants to expand its territory like commie leaders in 50s and 60s used to do.

Copycats and technology thieves can only project their power to small countries and that's about it.

China was the one de0ploying those oil wells, which is what caused the huge downswing in China - Vietnam relations.

Do you bother doing any research on your own? You are on this kick about China being portrayed in a bad light yet you ignore what they are doing.

Chinese claims in the region were resolved some time back and only recently became an issue because of resources. Claims China had relinquished in the past are once again at the front of their argument. An argument that China is loosing on the legal front, which is why we are seeing them expanding islands to build expanded military infrastructure.

"Creating" islands is not recognized by the UN for territorial nor EEZ claims.

What did the rest of NATO do? Nothing.

NATO "defended" western Europe. At that time the claim was defense from the Warsaw Pact invading 'Western' Germany. Guess what the Soviets used as an excuse for occupying the Warsaw Pact nations? To defend from NATO. They called their occupation an alliance too, just like NATO does now. They claimed they had permission to do this, just like NATO. The Warsaw pact disbanded, now NATO is filling the vacuum, to defend against Russia, as part of an alliance, with permission, blah, blah.…

The Soviets are gone dinkums, NATO is the Empire now.

BS. They were occupying whole region (including my country) before NATO was formed. For internal propaganda purposes they were using anti-German rhetoric.

The allies never left Europe after the war. In 49 (or whenever NATO "formed") it sealed eastern Europes fate to dominance under the Soviets. The Soviets took Berlin and stopped.

Forming NATO was window dressing, making it look like The Soviets were the threat. The NAZIs were the threat, they were the reason Soviets conquered the territory they did. To kill Nazis, to kill Hitler. Not The ALLIES.

History was rewritten though… by the victors. Thats the excuse they used to form NATO. The Soviets are long gone, but NATO remains, for what? Lies again about the "Communists".

History is something you need to look at.

NATO was formed for several reasons.

1. The Soviet Union has converted the whole of Eastern Europe into vassal states by controlling the ability of those (once free) nations to determine their destiny. NATO was formed as a defensive alliance to curtail Soviet expansionism - something that was happening at the time. Although the Soviets have gone, there is still a need for a defensive alliance. NATIO was formed because of Soviet expansionism.
2. Europe and war. European nations needed to work together for their own security as a measure to prevent future conflict and the rise of militarism. Conflict amongst NATO states has not happened.
3. Integrated politics. NATO has worked to produce political integration and alignment.

Just because the Soviets collapsed and all their vassal states were released from repression, does not mean that NATO should be disbanded.

Looking at your graphic, the only islands China could even remotely reasonably have a claim to, a legal claim at least, are a few of the Paracel islands...the others are MUCH too far South and aren't remotely close to China's territorial waters.

The NAZI were not any reason. In 1939 SU and Third Reich went on joint conquest, just in 1941 Hitler decided to stop sharing the loot and backstabbed his ally.

" To kill Nazis, to kill Hitler. Not The ALLIES."
Nice theory. But the fact that Red Army occupied my country (on allies side all war) does not fit it.
