I grew up around saltwater tanks and no one is going to tell me they are not pets, they can have personalities and even interact to some degree via hand feeding..I remember one would blow bubbles at me every morning..kinda saying hello. It can be very relaxing having a tank.

You can "copulate" with a corpse in four states (I think it's four), but oral "friendliness" is illegal in those states.

Let that rattle around in your brain a while

My question would be what happened in the situation to warrant making up that law?.
Did it happen and what was the outcome? lol.

That is a good question! Makes one wonder.

www.boisehighlights.com...

I would believe their reasoning:

This is most likely because of the animal’s waste. It would get into the water and affect the fish. That fish would be eaten by us.

Except for the fact that most farms and ranges do not have fences preventing the animals from getting to sources of water (streams, ponds and rivers) because that is where they get the water that they drink to survive.

That, and fisherman are not known for taking a horse into a stream or river with them when they are fishing, whether it be on their back or not. The whole idea is not to spook the fish whenever possible. Taking a horse along kind of defeats the idea.

Then I went to a link on the page that you linked and saw this:

Recently you may have heard a lot about props 1, 2, and 3 and how those laws failing could be good for our education. But, are you aware that there are many more laws that have little to no meaning to us? On a weekly basis, how many times do you usually fish off a giraffe’s back in Boise or see an 89 year old riding a motorcycle in Idaho Falls? Hopefully never, because those two things are illegal in Idaho. Yep, sorry guys but take your grandmas and giraffes home because for some reason Idaho found it necessary to make those things illegal along with many more strange Idaho laws. Although Idaho does have some laws that I could understand being illegal, it is still strange to me why they need to be written down. For example, in Pocatello it is against the law to cut off a friend’s head with an axe. I’m sure normal people who enjoy cutting off their friends’ heads are glad they made that a law. Another strange law that I came across was that in Idaho Falls snakes have been banned from biting humans on Sunday. This is also a very useful law considering snakes probably understand you when you tell them this. However, there are some laws that honestly, in my opinion, just have no reasoning behind them whatsoever. For example, it is illegal in Pocatello, Idaho for a man to give his “sweetheart” a box of candy weighing less than fifty pounds. Now, I’m not sure but I’m going to guess and say that this was probably a woman’s idea. Another absolutely insane law is that once again in Pocatello, children up to the age of 14 must have a certificate signed by their parents to testify that they regularly brush their teeth. I’m starting to think that Pocatello had a lot of free time on their hands. There is also a law that states that you are not allowed to sleep in a dog kennel in Wallace, Idaho. Again, why would they feel the need to have that as a law? Obviously some of these laws must have some very strange stories behind them. A couple more weird laws to add finish with. In wouldn’t you know it, Pocatello, it was illegal to be seen in public without a smile on your face. In Eagle, there is law against bikes on tennis courts. In Idaho Falls, there is a law that says that lawyers must not charge widows a fee for moving their piano from one room to another. (Alright, well that’s thoughtful).

Boise Highlites
Same Publication, different article, and by the end of the 4th sentence, they contradict themselves on the other article. ?

It was sarcasm to highlight the stupidity of this case.

Since many of you are on your collective soap boxes over this one, since you value life so much as to wage an online debate over the rights of a goldfish, maybe you would be better off getting outraged over the disgusting things done to human beings...now that's a case i'd support.

She did do something to a human being..killed his pets and wrecked his place, how do you know what value the owner placed on them?
Anyway who say we do not get riled up over bad stuff the people do to people(your missing point of that is what happened here)

I was disapointed... my imagination ran riot with ideas of some crazy old hootin cowboy in red long johns causing a ruckus at some town hall with fish and giraffe so the next day the stunned town folk put it into law the very next day so it can't happen...

Tut...

What's next, Felony charges for feeding your snakes mice, your carnivorous fish guppies and goldfish?

But those fish were not used as a food source for another creature, so that really has no bearing on the context of your post. It's not the same thing at all. I agree, felony charges for killing five goldfish seems a tad extreme, but I bet the goldfish wouldn't think it was...they were murdered, and you can bet they suffered before they died. Too bad the people out there torturing and murdering dogs and cats don't face felony charges...maybe this will set a precedent.

dog smarter

wouldn't drink it

Actually, yes they would. They will also eat poisoned meat if it's offered...pets are killed every day by this method, most commonly food dosed with antifreeze because it's cheap and effective. But the goldfish really didn't have a choice to ingest or not ingest the bleach. It was introduced into their environment, so they had no way to escape it even if they wanted to.

Flies aren't pets. But when you refer to someone as being willing to "pull the wings off of flies for fun"....you aren't talking about a sane mind and steady character.

There's a difference between flushing a fish, the cold water numbs and kills them quickly and torturing an insect. The second is definitely not a sane mind.

Hahaha. Seriously, you had a goldfish when you were 6 and this is what you're mom told you right? Carps is cold water fish. There no heaters in tanks gf tanks.

This thread is hilarious. I had 2 goldfish in a 30 gal, when about 14. Before going on vacation 1 was missing. Couldn't find him. 4 days later got back, found him in the closet. He was stuck to the carpet. Peeled him off and chucked him in the toilet. Washed my hands and when I went to flush, I swear I saw the gill twitch. I sat there staring at the toilet for 45 mins, eyes effing me. Screw it, netted him and back into the tank. He sank. Two days later, he was off the bottom, tail twitching. By the end of the week he was upright and his whole one side was fuzzed over like dead fish get. His whole one side was all jacked, but he pretty much made a full recovery.

When the hit the sewer or septic however, probably much much worse than bleach poisoning to their CNS.

I actually had a pet fish poisoned in a similar situation. His name was Petey and was almost 15 years old. My current fish Teefers is a psychopath. He would kill all your goldfishes for kicks. Killer, killed by Petey, was pure evil. He never ate, and stayed way too small. All he ever did was chomp faces.

Add .12c to her damages and move along. Petey was easily worth a couple hundo, and I love my dog, but it's still destruction of property. I can't imagine catching a felony for it unless they shot the tank.

What if she was trying to clean the tank for him, killed the fish on accident, when another woman calls, and she flips. Still felony cruelty?

Why is everyone clamoring for such subjective laws and rulings. There has got to be a better way handle this.
