These Ads Suck, ATS!

As far as logging out I tend to not leave multiple tabs open all the time.

ETA: It also happens every time I refresh the live page, not just when I log out. I like the ATS recap that pops up in the same video screen but it also plays sound unbidden.

Ads don't bother me but one thing is that everytime I open a thread the site keeps hijacking my browser to YouTube but doesn't open a video. I have registered for ATS YouTube so I am a bit confused by it. It's starting to really get on my nerves. Any answers mods

Since you're relatively new...ATS isn't making them happen. Your settings are. We all don't have any such problem on any device. Don't blame us...learn to modify your settings.

I remember it used to be much worse, very loud noise of tanks moving and dramatic music in the background. Searching for a button to exit the horror went to no avail.

Second question: which ads do that? When I review our ads, that never happens for me. All are providers are not supposed to auto-play sounds. If one is, we remove it.

I usually just stay logged in and I don't have any problem with auto-playing ads...Not sure what the OP is talking about, honestly.

I see that the Nissan ad that was coming up in the middle of the page is gone so that is nice.

I in phone , can only see the unobtrusive banners, do not think that someone in their sticks but it capitalism even Rense Nathanael and other prisoners of the planet & whatreallhappened made gesheft for thirst information you are against advertising and at the same time against socialism in which there was no advertising

I'm a long-time reader, relatively new poster.

Could you please explain as to how 'my settings' are creating obnoxious ads on the ATS website? That doesn't make any sense to me.

And to whomever said that ads aren't supposed to play sound on this site, THEY DO. A LOT. That's all I know... but I guess 'my settings' are just screwed up *skeptical face* ...

I agree. The ads are overboard on this site. I'm a long-time lurker who prefers not to post. But, I rarely visit ATS anymore because the ads have gotten so bad.

I just reloaded the homepage and counted 5 ads + the pop-up autoplaying sound enabled video crap at the bottom. My computer basically grinds to a halt when I load ATS these days. IMO, it's an obvious money-grab for the owners and it's disrespectful of the users here.

At least there aren't any ads in between posts or hyperlink advertising... (yet)

It isn't your settings, it is your contribution.

See those stats below your avatar? With a higher number next to the trophy, you get less ads.

Now that is not to say just go around spamming, your post will need to be starred and replied.

Or if you create a thread, flagged and starred.

I for one have never had an ad just start making noise unless I moused over it, if I get an ad I don't like I refresh.

And it seems to do the trick, the ads I see get posted there seem to be gone given some time.

I have a fairly powerful desktop PC, and I've given up on visiting ATS on it. My phone, however, is wonderful for the site, aside from hating writing on a 3 square inch touchscreen keyboard.

I'm glad someone else composed this thread before I did.

I saw this thread last night, but didn't respond...I'm responding now for one reason - I just came on to check the latest threads, looking for something interesting.

Something I do almost daily (maybe miss a day here and there) and have done for some times.

But tonight, as it has been on most recent occasions - I find the right hand side of my page being imposed on by some ad for sky television.

It's blocking the content...the content that I'm here to see. This is ATS...I purposely stopped watching television years ago...ATS is like the antithesis of television for me...but even here they're able to push their crap on me.

So I'm leaving...again. You want to know why I'm seeing these ads? Because recently I haven't been contributing as much as I'd like to...mainly because every time I come here to find an interesting thread...an advert pops up, pisses me off - and I leave.

And that's what I'm doing now...no doubt I will return, but I'll probably leave again.

I've been visiting this site for years and been a member for a couple of. I'd happily contribute to ATS if:

1. I was able ti find some interesting content to contribute to.
2. the last few threads I did get involved in seemed to descend into petty argument and outright verbal assaults.
3. I don't appreciate lying in bed reading a thread quietly only for some booming crappy advert to scare the living sense out of me.

The point is I'll be relegated to having to view ATS from between various junk ads - which makes me leave...which means I'll be in a perpetual state of being advertised out of ATS like like I've been advertised away from television.

I hate adverts and advertisers. I hate the lengths they go to in order to make money - it annoys me that companies who are worth billions, treat people like crap are ruining my onnly pleasures in life as best they can.

There's no escaping them, they're ruining the world - I'm sorry to be so blunt but I don't expect it on ATS, I'd sooner pay a monthly or yearly subscription.

Is this an option worth considering? It would have the added advantage of ridding us of the troublemakers and trolls...they seem to be flocking here in their droves nowadays...sure, some would stick around but I think the content and member quality would really blossom.

I miss ATS...I don't know what this is now. Coming on here seems more of a chore now than a pleasure.

I think it's an unfair and unjust system that's being employed here - you're basically being penalised as a user depending on contributions...I'm assuing this is based on the frequency of recent contributions as I have made what I believe are reasonable contributions to this site over the years...only recently I haven't for various reasons - ads being one of the most prominent.

To me, ATS isn't the place to be pushing apple products...or sky television.

And since being confrontational and rude is apparently now acceptable on this site I'll draw attention to the fact that I find it ironic that your name is SheopleNations and you're here pushing apple products - I hope that doesn't offend you too much.

I don't want an iPhone or sky television. I wanted an alternative to that junk where I can learn and discuss obscure, interesting topics...I want to see the stuff that isn't being pushed on television. I know Sky television exists...we all do, I know that crap is out there...we all do.

This policy of punishing those who don't contribute enough simply encourages people to contribute crap - so it's all sort of slotting into place now.

ATS has become the opposite of what it stood for in my eyes. I used to spend hours trawling through this site years ago. These days I'm here 10 minutes then I leave, frustrated.

Last edit, was going to reply again but I've done enough damage here. I just wanted to add something more thought provoking - me and a friend talked about this a while ago...where are the robots they promised us years ago? All the wonderful technology we thought we'd get...hover boards and stuff.

We concluded that in the future, maybe 30 or 40 years from now there will be robots...they're already here and people are working on it...but in 40 years time they'll be everywhere...commonplace. But they won't serve us...we decided they'll probably go from door to door advertising or pushing some product.

They'll be a major irritant...and that's what I believe will happen, there's a thread in there somewhere - maybe I'll write it,, eh...get my points for adding content to the site...get rid of the ads.

In fact my responses to this very thread have hopefully gained me some credentials. Maybe I should have replied again after all...hmmm, I can still delete this and start over....hmmmmm.

Yeeeeah, just draaaag it out man, talk about anything.

Ok, I'm being silly now but I think I made my point quite well.

My point was that I don't get any ads on any website while on my IPhone. I do get them here when on my PC, and I don't like the automatic sound playing on the main page in that pop up box either, so I try to avoid the main page. Other than that, the people who run ATS need to make a living. ~$heopleNation

This is one of the main reasons I stopped coming to ATS. I stop by off and on, but leave again because it's just too distracting with those ads. A few of my colleagues feel the same. There are plenty of other similar sites to discuss these topics.
