In a widely derided vote that was full of irregularities and outright fraud.
What is even stranger is that a year prior to this "vote", opinion polls put the desire to join Russia at less than 30%, with the vast majority indicating they'd prefer to remain as part of Ukraine.

I am curious about Finland Russia
As a citizen of a country that used to be a part both WP and NATO, that what you said - bull****. Very far analogy - in Warsaw Pact were just vassal state countries conquered by the SU, that could not leave. (Like Hungary in 1956, or Czechoslovakia in 1968). On the other hand NATO is a voluntary coalition, where for example French under de Gaule could have told "yanks go home".

Russia is regarded as the inheritor state and the USSR was dominated by Russia throughout it's entire history.
Thats like saying the US is dominated by Americans. Good for anti-Putin rhetoric, but meaningless.
Besides the Union of Soviet Socialist "Republics" included the "Warsaw Pact" nations. Akin to NATO, who now occupies Eastern Europe instead, the Warsaw Pact is defunct.
(Like Hungary in 1956, or Czechoslovakia in 1968).

You forgot Poland and Romania. Those were uprisings squashed by the puppet states with the help of Soviet armor. Different era, and I agree completely different tactics. Weapons have changed, now with electronic money and eternal debt, economic warfare is used as leverage instead of divisions of tanks. Plus advanced surveillance, satellite and cruise missiles, far different arena.
I agree though nothing so brutal as the communist state in Eastern Europe under the Soviets. But thats over, now NATO is filling the vacuum. Ask Eastern Ukrainians what they think of the US, EU (NATO) encroachment, and the Junta thugs in Kiev.
