Joining NATO's missile shield would put the ships at risk, says diplomat, The Russian ambassador said that Danish ships could become targets

Denmark's relations with Russia can become even more strained. In an opinion piece in Jyllands-Posten Saturday warned the Russian ambassador to Denmark, Mikhail Vanin, that Denmark will be the target of a possible Russian nuclear attack if we join NATO missile defense.

"I do not think that the Danes fully understand the consequences of what happens if Denmark joins the US-led missile defense. If this happens, the Danish warships targets for Russian nuclear missiles, "said Mikhail Vanin and continues:

"Denmark will be part of the threat to Russia. It will be less peaceful, and relations with Russia will be damaged. Of course it is your decision - I would just remind you that I will lose both money and security. Meanwhile, the Russia of missiles and are guaranteed to penetrate the future global missile defense system. "

The warning is puzzling and anger among Danish politicians.

Foreign Minister Martin Lidegaard (R) will not increase the tension:

"If he has decided in this direction, it is obviously unacceptable. Russia knows very well that Nato's missile defense is defensive and not against them. We disagree with Russia on many important things, but it is important that the tone between us does not escalate. "

SF's defense spokesman and former foreign minister Nielsen, who himself is opposed to missile defense, is puzzled.

That is an odd escalation..

It's not like the Danes are trying to take an offensive posture against Russia.

I don't get it...

Funny thing is that we have always been under threat from Russia and the then U.S.S.R.

And with good rights.
Since we joined Nato our position seemed to improve, but let's be honest...

A natuon of 5 million people have NO clout in any struggle.

What we do have is a geographical position that is sort of a cork in a bottle for Russian naval vessels that wants to go from The Baltic Sea into the Atlantic.

So - it is far more likely that we shall become a battlefield rather than anything else.

So the new threat of nuclear strike if we join the Shield, is simply a repeat of same type of threats we have hard before.

I don't think this is Russia escalating tensions with Denmark. It is more of stating the obvious. I'm from Ireland and try to maintain an unbiased view of the situation between the US and Russia. The media for a long time have been illustrating Putin as a demon with the passanget flight crash jumping to mind where within a few hours without any evidence stated as fact Putin shot it down.
The US and NATO have been on the aggression for a long time and I feel that Russia are doing what any other country would do in this situation. Put the US in Russia's position and bombs would have fallen a long time ago.
In this situation it is obvious that by alligning with NATO and the US missile system you are positioning yourself against Russia. The US have indeed stated that this missile threat comes from Russia, so Russia are merely stating what they have been accussed of. By joining this missile defence system Denmark are agreeing to becoming a target of Russian missiles as this I'd what the system has been designed for.

Yea right, as if someone from Ireland would have this opinion... Did you not get the memo, NATO good and anything other than that is bad, bad, bad. If it was not for the benevolent defense of NATO all of the EU would have been taken over by those evil Ruskies years ago... you must be one of those Russian trolls I have been hearing about!

LOL

Forgive my facetious tone, I am from the land of Murica and it is painfully obvious who the aggressor is here and you quite literally hit the nail on the head. Those who orchestrated/funded WW1 and WW2 have always planned on a WW3 to cement their NWO gameplan, I mean really is this "conspiracy" really still a theory?!?

As wild as it is, those evil Russians as well as the real enemy, the entire BRICS alliance, are one of the few things standing in the way of the elite cabal of the west, who btw at the top levels are all in the Paedo ring that is being exposed! So it is no wonder that we have had all of this propaganda over the past couple of years, plenty of distractions are needed!

Looking forward to watching this thread develop.

Ah doomporn in the morning!

I dare suggest that I doubt that Russia has that many nuke missiles to spare in the event of a nuclear war that it would rain any down on little Denmark's ships.

But the Bear is given to roaring (more and more like North Korea). Maybe it is not so strange that Little Kim went or is going to Russia for a visit. 'Advising Putin on how to talk mean and tough, I suspect. (Note to Kim: You could take a tip from Putin and try riding horseback without a shirt (if you haven't eaten all of your horses already).

Ah yes the smell of doom porn in the morning will always get the neurons sparking .. lol Imagine one morning some elite living in Denmark wakes up and see's his beautiful estate and accumulated wealth in the cross hairs of the Russian Bear because some country across the pond thinks it's prudent to put a missile base there . I am fortunate to live in a place where the strategic value was fully spent 100 years ago .Now I am surrounded by people who are originally from some place else . nobody wants us now lol

Seems like perfectly reasonable statement coming from Russia

Hey you, if you join this gang that could one day attack Russia as they seem to be preparing and encircling, know that we will show you no mercy

Simple and to the point

Since the Crimea mess and the resulting Russian global isolation and economic collapse Russia is beging to sound more and more like North Korea everyday. What is also interesting is they seem to always be threatening small or nuetral states. I suppose the goal is to make them feel like NATO or the EU can not protect them so they should side with Russia. That is never going to work when nations like Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and now Belarus are willing to risk Russian military action to get away from Russia and to the West. You are not going to EU or NATO members fleeing to join Russia's sphere of influence. Not even Cuba wants to be a part of that anymore.

At some point Russia is going to have to just accept what it is. A large nation with a bad economy and bloated corupt military. Some real reforms could fix that place up but, that would mean somebody not corrupt taking over. And in Russia I do not know if that exists anymore.

Don't you?

You know the US war record?

How anyone with even half a functioning brain cannot appreciate how hundreds of 'missile shield' sites will not be solely equipped with only 'defensive missiles' is beyond credulity.

Each site will consist of multiple missiles, similar to a patriot system on steroids...but of course, secreted within all of these systems, will be functioning, mid-range offensive missiles.

Anyone who has even the slightest amount of common sense really ought to, at the very least suspect it.

I think he's just stating the obvious.
The Russian line is that any nation joining NATO is considered to be a threat, so I would be shocked if Denmark had not expected this kind of rhetoric.

Of course this notion that Russia is under "attack" from NATO is frankly BS.
Both Russia and the US have the capability to strike each other from a distance, NATO doesn't need to put nukes in every NATO country. The fundamental idea of NATO has also been justified by Russia's actions in various other states around it.

You can't complain about defenses being placed against you claiming it's a threat to you, when it's you invading other countries around you and forcing those countries to require increased protection. It's really pretty bizarre, Russia invades another country then complains when all other neighbours start looking for protection against the same thing happening to them...

And for those claiming the US would do the same if the roles were reversed... Cuba is still there, it was not bombed into oblivion by the US.

There have been plenty of opportunities over the years for Russia to become less of a threat to NATO, and if it had continued down the path it was on it would be likely that we would not be in this position now and we would probably all be allies within another 20 years. NATO is only useful while there is a perceived threat. Russia has had plenty of opportunity to remove that threat and it has now rejected that possibility.

What did people think was going to happen after Crimea? Do people really expect all those nations to surrender to Russia and invite it in to take over? Do they think these nations don't also deserve defenses?

Like it or not, Russia has proven that it is a greater threat to these countries, and they have every right to seek protection against that threat. That protection comes in the form of NATO.

The Russian ambassador threatens to nuke Danish ships and ATS posters tell us this is normal...expected even! WOW! Some have a twisted sense of normal.

Well the Danes now get to feel how the Ukrainians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians, Polish, Finish, Swedish, Moldovans and more countries feel. Direct threats from Russia. Enjoy the feeling and take action to stop it.

That isn't what was said. Well, not if your angle isn't a sensationalist piece of stirring of course.

How many countries does the West target with it's nuclear weapons?

Is it outrageous that the West is targeting countries that are either targeting our lands and industries and interests, or those places that are part of a coalition that has a defensive or offensive pact with others who are targeting us?

Well...we do and have been actively targeting these countries for decades.

We do more than that too of course, we actively initiate full scale bloody wars, with all the real death, destruction and abject misery that goes hand in glove with aggressive acts like war with the countries we feel might intend us or our hegemony harm.

Russia targeting a country for installing missiles to be used against Russia, and warning that country they will be targeted in the even of an attack against Russia and her allies is actually a very normal thing to do.

In fact, although becoming an active target was obvious, Russia warning Denmark of such a change in status was actually a courtesy, designed to give pause for thought and reflection, but still very normal in the grand scheme of escalating tensions with the Western Ukrainian shenanigans and threats to Syria and Iran, in the wake of a relentless march across the Middle East and the rivers of blood left behind in our tracks.

What is astonishing to me, is how anyone would have the bare faced nerve to try and capitalise upon this move by Russia and twist it into anti Russian propaganda when we ourselves do and have done the same and much worse.

Slavic saber rattling. So far, historically speaking, Russian "technology" has failed to hold up against Western tech. I would ask the Russian how he is going to spin his horse turds to the Russian people when all their major cities are smoking irradiated hulks? Threatening nuclear war is moronic. Hope it works out for them. God knows having Denmark against you is just crazy stupid. Everyone knows what a huge threat they are.

Ha ha! Sure! Denmark is spinning this into anti-Russia propaganda.

Them evil Danes! To want protection from nuclear missiles. Clearly they deserve to be threatened with unstoppable nuclear bombs.

More saber rattling from Russia I see.

I doubt they would make such a move considering it would bring the wrath of Europe proper down on them, not to mention others that would want dips.
