You have every right to express your opinion.

The US and people of, do it all the time.

The problem lies not with people disliking guns, but with the way some people ignore the Constitution that guarantees us the right to own them.

America is unusual that way, but until a Constitutional Amendment is made to restrict the rights of Americans to bear arms, America is going to be free carry on owning them.

have been significantly curtailed, and not in the public interest

I beg to differ. Had guns been as widely available here as they are in America, we'd be seeing a bloodbath a day at least. There'd also be far more instantly violent home invasions. The fact that all the guns in America haven't deterred lots of criminally-inclined people to hang up their thieving gloves is all the proof I need for that.

Yes, the book smart people with no experience. They are called Professors. And 99% are really good at explaining theory.

And, we all know what happens when theory meets the real world.

Good thing you don't live here. I doubt you would survive.

I've survived 50+ years in a society where your average person didn't have the luxury of a firearm to deal with every hostile incident they face. I think I'd manage well enough because I have something called "situational awareness" and the confidence not to crap my pants because someone is bouncing around and behaving aggressively.

I don't place any reliance on luck. You probably need it more than me, so I'd hold on to it, if I was you.

Yeah, sure you have and sure you can.

Again, please, stay in comfy old England. The laws there, Govt setup, societal makeup and people suit you.

Have you looked into Chicago, with regard to recent changes to their firearms laws?

You might be surprised by the result of any such researches.

Not sure if anyone in this thread is a gamer, but the "clerk" at this "store" looks like Ned Luke, voice and model actor for Michael De Santa (Townley) in Grand Theft Auto V. Quite ironic, imo, given how prominently crime and firearms are featured in the game. Ned Luke

What do you think I should be taking particular note of?

Well, Chicago relatively recently relaxed its gun control laws somewhat, and allowed concealed carriage of firarms. There has been a drop in crime since.

Do you think that's because criminals have decided it's too risky and got themselves gainful employment, or do you think they might have just swept the problem elsewhere?

Are those two concepts really independent of each other, though? Let's assume the criminals moved on to "greener criminal pastures" where gun laws are more restrictive and fewer citizens are able to own firearms... wouldn't the natural solution simply be to embrace the Second Amendment in EVERY US city, county, and state and have an entire nation of armed, responsible citizens, giving these POS thugs no place to safely victimize society?

No, because then you become like Russia and other Eastern European states, where your reign of terror drives them all to other countries where they are a little less ruthless. That, or the homegrown criminals get better, illegal to ordinary citizens weapons, and up the violence ante so that it's a strike first, steal later at your leisure world you are living in. Enjoy those freedom fries while you are praising your access to firearms.

Again, American based issue. You, chiming in as a non-American......means about as much as an ant farting.

But, do go on.....what else do you have?

It appears that the left considers speech to be a weapon (especially free speech).

It would end up (IMO) another case of the left screaming for something-and then screaming and crying about it when it starts to bite them on the rear.

I swear to Cthulhu (had to pick one) that dealing with obama's worshippers is like arguing with a 3 year old.
