What does the sexuality of the Premier have to do with it?

I don't see anything wrong with teaching the kids the facts. In fact, more education is what is needed to combat teenage pregnancy and the spread of STDs.

I can see how this would bother someone who wishes to continue their own judgements and hateful treatment of LGBT people.

The controversy stems from Ms Wynne's background as education minister and her so called "social engineering" tactics that have pushed for this sex ed at a young age, especially covering the homo-agenda. Also controversial is that one of the people behind the program is allegedly up on child porn charges (I realize this source is "ohh think of the children) canadianvalues.ca...

I don't think its anything hateful so much as adult political agendas being pushed to children at younger and younger ages.

I don't have kids, so I can see both sides to this. If I had kids I may have a different opinion however.

i'be read through it, seems ok to me. But I'm in the UK so don't know if I understand the grades properly. I've discussed with my children that boys can have boyfriends and girls can have girlfriends and they are 5 and 7. But that's just because their are no gay couples with kids in their years so it's not something they were aware of and the eldest made a comment I had to correct.

Being a homosexual isn't a "political agenda". Why wouldn't you teach your children about gender issues. Regardless if you do or don't, they'll meet people who are trans or bi or gay, etc. and realize that they're ...people...not a political party; and they'll likely grow to see their parents as no better than those who would have kept separate bathrooms for black and white people during the civil rights movement.

It's true that Dr. Ben Levin was convicted on child pornography charges , and as a professor of education at the University of Toronto, some of his findings on how to educate children about sex might be included in the new curriculum. This doesn't mean he included methods that would groom children for sexual predators.

It would be a fair charge to say the mans efforts to educated here are based in his perversion. He is a pervert and this curriculum is perverted.

After a little research, I found that this program was abandoned in 2013...

Your original post says this is a "newly-unveiled" program (dated last month)... but in fact, it was unveiled in 2013 and was ABANDONED! But Life Site News felt it appropriate to put it in their news last month to push THEIR anti-gay agenda! LOL! My guess is they want to link sexual predators to homosexuality to rile up the bigots about the fact that gay people are marrying all over the states now.

This highly-criticized curriculum was abandoned by McGuinty

Still, Levin had nothing to do with the specifics of the program but did support the strategy of fairness, equity, and respect.

Note the date:

Wednesday, July 17, 2013
“Any suggestion that there was that kind of interference, it just demonstrates a lack of understanding of how curriculum actually is written,” Wynne told reporters. “Ministers and deputy ministers do not write curriculum.”
...
However Wynne’s spokesman Lauren Ramey said the “Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy” he refers to is “not a curriculum document, rather it is a strategy that sets out a vision to reaffirm the values of fairness, equity, and respect as essential principles of our publicly-funded education system.”
...
“Curriculum is written by subject experts in conversation and in consultation with a wide array of people — and curriculum is reviewed and written on an ongoing basis,” Wynne said about her former deputy minister and the member of her hand-picked transition team.

I would say so yes. Sure would.

What would you have public school teach children about sex? Remember that it's public school to teach the general public a curriculum designed for the general public and doesn't pander to what small groups of people hate or don't believe in teaching.

I was commenting on the controversy itself. As I stated I have no kids so really haven't given this issue much thought. Of course being gay itself isn't political it is what it is. It is viewed by some however that there is a "gay agenda" in our school system in Ontario, and I think that is (rightly or wrongly) due to Wynne.

It actually took meeting gay people in the real world in my twenties to shed all the propoganda I was fed at home (christian conservative nonsence) and feel Ive come along way from how I was raised. Things do change but it takes time.

I think the focus of the controversy needs to move past the premier being gay and to the co author being a pedophile; that is something that both sides could agree on. As a parent it would be that where I would focus my attention.

He had nothing to do with authoring the program that was abandoned in 2013. Please see my previous link:

On the contrary. It panders to a small group of perverts that hate opposition to its views.

What group of perverts? School children who deserve to be educated about their bodies, protecting themselves against sexual assault, and owning their sexuality because it's normal and nothing to be ashamed about?

I looked through it and it seemed Ok, but apparently I'm a pervert, it's amazing what a stranger on the internet can tell you about yourself. Hope nobody tells social services.

No way. Many would not agree. Its never really possible to separate the pushers from what they are pushing.

What is amazing is how strangers on the net talk as if everyone is on the same page or presumptively believe that they should be.

LIFESITE NEWS

LifeSiteNews has been characterized as an "online anti-abortion journal" by the National Post and a "pro-Life website" by the Vancouver Sun.

At the provincial level, Campaign Life has been active in supporting the Family Coalition Party of Ontario.

In addition to opposing abortion, Campaign Life also launched a vocal campaign against same-sex marriage in 2004-05.

Who writes curriculum?

Levin has been back in the spotlight in recent days as Ontario released an updated sex-education curriculum.

"Deputy ministers don't write curriculum," Wynne said. "The curriculum as we have brought it forward was written by curriculum experts based on solid evidence that shows what kids need to know in order to be safe in our community."

Ah, the Campaign Life Coalition, basically a bunch of strangers on the Internet who presumptively believe everyone should believe as they do, that women should not own their own bodies, and that marriage is so holy an institution that it should be illegal for two people of the same gender to marry, an institution that is so well kept by straight people, including atheists.
