I agree with Susan Duclos viewpoint. We have countries that are facing economic collapse trying to spread their corporate might at the point of a sword. Either fascism will succeed at the cost of our freedoms or we will witness a greater war that will threaten all of humanity. People need to pull back the reigns on the despots and take back control of their society before its too late.

fair enough

now let's just say you are resposible for 100 women and you had to choose between
a) sending them to Russia
b) sending them to Saudi Arabia
c) kill them

what would you choose

The aftermath of a nuclear bomb is survivable and many survived Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The cities were rebuilt not long after their destruction during WWII. Granted you would be much more susceptible to radiation related diseases such as cancer and would probably die earlier than your countrymen in areas that were not hit with a nuclear bomb.

I think the issue here is many people assume that during WWIII nations would set off all their nukes and the world would thus be destroyed. I don't think this would ever happen, and even if it did it would primarily effect the northern hemisphere because that's where Europe, Russia, the US and China sit. It is more likely that nations would bomb military installations and major cities one or two at a time until the other side surrenders. These places that are targeted by nukes here in the US are places like DC, NYC, LA and hardly represent the majority of America's inhabitable lands.

I don't think WWIII would happen as we imagine it... it may look more similar to WWII or WWI rather than all out nuclear annihilation

Its absolutly true. Nuclear bombs have become a myth. People also forget the tactical use. Bombing civil Cities (like WW2) was direct war against the civilian population. That wasnt war that was terror, all sides agree on that. If there wouldnt have been the shoa the allied forces would have had to answer some very inconvenient questions regarding moral and humanity in WW2. They were just "luky" to come in second in this regard.

Nuclear bombs do have tactical use. Taking out Carrier-Groups, big Airfields, bunkers and so on are all legit military targets. "Nobody" could justify bombing a civilian city in retaliation to a military target. The one thing harms the enemy (the opposing army that is), and the other is a direct act against humanity and civilisation. In the global world we life in, there is simply no need, nor benefit from attacking civilians with nukes.

Nuclear war doesnt mean the end of the world! It has the potential, but nobody in the US, EU, China or Russia would be that narrow-minded.

Well put. It is way more likely that military installations would be targeted first. The use on civilian cities would not likely happen unless things got really bad, a last resort type attack like Hiroshima. You're right and if that did happen it wouldn't be a military war at that point but terrorism.

People like to point to the fear of nukes keeping the world safe and out of global conflict since WWII. Although that may have a bit of truth to it, it certainly hasn't kept the USA and other countries from starting other wars.

Sorcha Faal, like BIN, isn't a valid source and that was the original source of the story you posted.

Well, nice of them to let me know before deleting the thread. Could have let the users discredit it first.

Ok I had to think for a few days, since this is the one event round, here's my scenario, Israel sneak attacks Iran, Israel gets smoked off the map by Russia all neighboring countries attack Israel at the same time, complete and utter war breaks out in the middle east, US. Nukes Russia , almost instantaneously China is also Nuked, there are no winners, only survivors.

I think if Putin is missing for anything other than planning, I think if there was an attempt on his life, outside intelligence factions have everything to do with it, also if Putin survived, they have uncovered the country behind it very swiftly, the announcement could be a declaration of war, two candidates, the U.S. or Israel.

What do you think about my scenario? or is it too far fetched?

crazy part is that everybody is overhyped right now
that all it takes is Isis getting a hold of nuke the next thing you have is mistakenly blaming a country for the attack
or north Korea retaliating against south and everybody gets suddently envolved and all the cards of house fall

I think that is why I am posting here just to remind us all that you and me and you there are not enemies so let's just calm down
I am lost at why suddently the aggression
like I see here trend Russia America citizen "attack" eachother for what ?let's relax ..
nothing is happening it is like there is some imaginary scare crow hanging over us
well I don't see it ..the history is not repeating it self.

why don't we focus on the real problems we are currently facing in our generation if we dont we are still living in medieval times

Thanks Asmall89.

MimiSia: Yes its a hype. As I see it the US tried to take away the Krimea with the only russian icefree harbour and base for mediteranian operations from the russians, rendering russian global conventional forces abillities non existent. It would have been a nice idea to become the only hegemon and once and for "all" time pushing russia out of the club of superpowers. Ad to that, that Ukraine was one of the mayor contributors to russian weapons production and even highly involved in russian nuclear and space technology, all those connections were cut when the "new" government took over. Although the russian military industrial complex took a blow (Helicopters, Ships, Aircraft: newest generation), it was not far fetched that russia would not watch krimea been taken without intervention.

Never the less, this struggle for power was never planed to be one of the classic war kind, there is just to much at stake, specially with the laughable state of european armies vs. russia. If Putin would have been sick for the wrong month or otherwise distracted they might just got through with it. On the other hand, for what was to gain the price of some few billions for a "uprising" was cheap and worth a try. Nodody in this geostrategic club cares about dead eastern ukrainian people really. A shame but true.

I said this to somebody else on ATS

my comment on eastern Ukraine

i try to explain this to my friends (25-30 y olds ) but they just don't seem to see that as an issue!! I really hit a panic button at one point. I literally am allianated from my friends and family over this. they say stuff like oh u worry too much.. is nothing.. u are exaggerating.. u are so negative.. at some point I was also apparently bipolar. I don't get it . when 9-11 happened let's not go who did or didn't cause it. when it happened the world collapsed to knees . it was the most unthinkable unforgettable and unforgivable moment (someone is to blame don't care who ) cost of lives= 2900 . and then we have Ukraine 5200 if not more. some of my friends here in AU didn't even have a clue this is happening. my parents and friends in EU didn't even have a clue. what is the world thinking Russia will just sit there and have a cuppa? or two? it seems like it is a way to strike emotionally and morally where it hurts. so wrong.. economically Russia does not give a flock about trade with Ukraine (just look at the numbers where does Ukraine sit on Russia's trade list). I understand Crimea was strategic move but let's not forget there was a "lease" contract in play (until when did Ukraine Russia had the Crimea port deal 2030? )that was almost certainly not a sealed deal under poroshenko (for some reason I somehow dont believe poroshenko is the bad guy here either he seems to be pushed into stuff) and crimea wanted Russia so. anyway what do people thing Putin wants in little eastern ukraine ( it is more like quarter eastern Ukraine ) 300000 people ran into Russia as refugees. Ukraine freezes eastern Ukraines bank accounts to "proof who is the boss here "or what? or chuck a bomb on people waiting on food (a Russian origin billionaire was giving out food there why the hell would it be Russians who through the bomb. am I wrong for seeing this as a major issue that can lead to a global one?
