Maybe they arrested Putin for murdering that opposition guy. Maybe a new gov in Russia is forming.
Not likely but why else would all embassy people leave London unless they don't represent Russia anymore?

I don't think so, if this was the case it would be huge news, a major diplomatic incident.

I would think so as well...

I have been searching on their site for a while, and their tweets, and there is an odd lack of recent tweets from them....they are all from a couple days ago just being rehashed about a visit to a museum on the 12th which would be almost 2 days ago and before the tweet about them leaving went out.

I agree, I'm not convinced, but grateful to Vasa Croe for raising a potential heads up.
Even if the news was currently embargoed information in the Foreign & Commonwealth office, there are enough junior staff there who for sure would have told friends or family, which would have spilled onto facebook or twitter as "a friend told me..."
It would be massive news to the department, so while the Diplomatic Service staff may be less likely to open their mouths, the Home Civil Service staff who do the admin, junior level etc, would certainly know as well and be very likely to tell their mates...so I don't buy it.

I think one of the most disconcerting things to me is the NK visit being in the same timeline.

Well if Russian officials start leaving other major population centers, I'd begin to worry.

Like I said. If they follow suit in the U.S. and Canadian Embassies. This would be more worrisome.
But not yet.
But if they do..... ( insert any scenario here...... Missing MH370 shows up? ) ..

If we stop doubting we stop questioning. If we stop questioning then we just believe what we're told.
I look for valid reasons to doubt everything. It is when I do not find a reason to doubt that I have potential reason to be concerned.

I checked the feeds for Foreign Affairs and the Russian embassy as well as news feeds in Canada but saw nothing. Any Europeans who could drive by the embassy in their country and see if it's occupied?

I'm finding literally nothing else about this. Not one thing. Not even anything in the UK.

This would be, or should be, a massive deal. I feel like, based off his syntax, something may be lost in translation. We'll have to wait and see I guess, but it's got me scratching my head.

Yeah....I searched all over for anything and this was all I could find as well, but for the reporter to retweet it seems odd to me....he doesn't seem to have a history of BS stories.

No, but he has been talking a lot on Twitter about all the unfounded rumors and speculation meaning nothing at all, so he could have retweeted it in line with his attitude of "look at all the nonsense".

Odd coincidence here?

"Lebedev, an economist by training, worked for the First Chief Directorate of the KGB, then the KGB's successor, the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), with diplomatic cover in the Russian Embassy in London of economic attache. Lebedev then left intelligence and set up his first finance company and today is worth more than $1 billion according to Forbes, although he has suffered some losses."

Lebedev is the one they last reported Putin met with....check out his London cred with the embassy.

I think I've found the original source for the tweet but not sure if I’m allowed to link it here?? It’s on 4chan and contains some bad language

I've just got off the phone. We've got about 3 hours until an announcement is going to be made. All of the people from the military and defence attache office in the London Embassy left the country over the last couple of days. Colonel Klimuk left early yesterday morning.

Why leave because of that? No matter where they go on earth they would be radiated so why not stay put and break out the good vodka?

There are several reasons.
There could have been a coup in Russia, resulting in a call back of various agencies around the world. This would usually mean all though, and not just the UK.
There could have been a threat to them directly, one taken so seriously that their government decided to recall them all. Again, this is unlikely as Russia probably would have wanted to capitalize on that and make it public.
It could also mean that Russia is planning a further military movement and is concerned about their citizens being held or detained by a foreign government. However, why would this only be UK staff? Why wouldn't Russia call back US staff?

I'm going with this being more nonsense. There's no evidence for this, and to call back that many people at once would be highly visible. I'm pretty sure the BBC would have gotten wind of this by now if it had actually happened.

If they stay put, their vodka would be vaporized...

I'd at least like the chance to get drunk before my dna gets spread across all five continents.

Looking at the Russian embassy page however shows little out of the ordinary. Some embassy officials attending some gallery, etc.

Recent news that US is supplying further arms to Ukraine might have been too much for Russia to bear. Now if you were Russia, what would you do? Perhaps Russia might think its a good time to test its nuclear deterrents as a reminder to world that if you want to play with fire make sure you don't get your fingers burnt.
