ISIS now threatens to destroy the Sphinx and pyramids. I guess the world should get ready to lose these treasures. ISIS has been acting with impunity, destroying the ancient city of Nimrod and the relics in the Mosul museum. Apparently the people from that region, although the majority, aren't doing anything to stop them, either through fear or condoning.

“All Muslims are charged with applying the teachings of Islam to remove such idols, as we did in Afghanistan when we destroyed the Buddha statues,” he said on Saturday during a television interview on an Egyptian private channel, widely watched by Egyptian and Arab audiences.
“God ordered Prophet Mohammed to destroy idols,” he added. “When I was with the Taliban we destroyed the statue of Buddha, something the government failed to do.”

if they get even close to doing that, and we still don't bomb them out of existence, then we just need to accept them as our rulers and stop just faking outrage.
why is nobody doing anything concrete about these idiots? can someone give me a direct answer?

Political correctness keeps getting in the way, Obama wont call them terrorists, so the worlds hands are tied, so to speak.

I couldn't agree more.
With all of our technology, public and "secret", you can't tell me we do know where they are and what they are doing.

And if anything does happen to them, personally, I will blame our government.

Hmmm, just made me think though. There was a thread the other day about the tunnels found under the pyramids. Maybe our government wants them destroyed?

ISIS acting with impunity? Well for one the Sphinx and the Pyramids are in Egypt. Seeing as how Egypt is already bombing ISIS you are already wrong. Also, that previous link clearly shows that Egypt isn't an ally with ISIS, so ISIS would have to actually fight the Egyptian government to even GET to these landmarks. ISIS is just blowing smoke here. They will never penetrate that far into Egypt if they penetrate into the country at all.

How about the term "Mass Murderers"?

Doesn't that carry weight anymore?

Silly me, if it did we would have the White House on lock down.

Peace

that's what bums me out about obama, that dude can't stand up for anything, so worried making everyone happy and not upsetting people. i know we all have our political differences, but i think all of us know this isis s#$t would not fly under the clinton administration.
Not too long ago isis destroyed those Assyrian artifacts. that stuff was 3000 years old. we are not getting it back. they should have bombed that musum while those animals were still in there.
they are killing people left and right, destroying history and here we sit trying not to be rude to them.

"We have reports confirming isis has just killed another 4 people, two news reporters and too "very gay acting" men. However the people of isis have feelings, and we should start maybe a hashtag campaign to dissuade them, but please nothing too offensive!"
President Obama (most likley)

Obama isn't calling them Muslim terrorists. He IS calling them terrorists. And political correctness isn't keeping us from warring against ISIS. The American people are still widely against warring in the Middle East so it is keeping Obama from putting boots on the ground (what do you know, he actually listens to the American public), but regardless, that isn't stopping America from bombing ISIS in record numbers.

Why does Obama need to do anything in the first place? Can't we just let the ptb in the region take care of their own problems for once?

This is one of the most asinine statements that I've read on ATS in a while. Is Obama a wizard? Is there some magical enchantment he can utter to poof ISIS out of existence? Get a grip.

To be fair, IS probably wouldn't have got a look in if it hadn't been for the removal of Saddam, the destabilization of Iraq and the inept Government of Malaki... The "West" - the UK and US specifically - have some measure of responsibility here.

Yes, the local powers need to step up and many have - Qatar is leading talks to try and isolate IS from the rest of the Syrian rebels including bringing Al Nusra in from the cold, but to be fair, none of them have anywhere near the capabilities of the Western militaries.

Extremely unlikely - you are aware that it is the current Egyptian Government which is backed by the Army that removed the MB (probably IS most likely allies in Egypt) from power 2 years ago? The chances of them being in bed with IS is non-existent. The current Government is extremely anti-Islamist.

I'm already wrong? So ISIS didn't threaten the Sphinx and Pyramids for destruction? I must've misread the article. They don't act with impunity? I must've missed the part where there was a great sense of urgency to prevent them bulldozing the ancient city of Nimrod and preserve the culture of the region.

Yes sir I'm aware.

Subtlety and sarcasm can be a dangerous cocktail around these parts. I like to live on the edge every once in a while.

Well seeing as how, even with our great military capabilities, we screw up everything that we touch I'd say that maybe we should back off for a change. You brought up how ISIS wouldn't be a presence in Iraq if it weren't for us destabilizing the place; well do you honestly think that if we went in guns blazing that the area would turn into sunshines and rainbows this time?

We are creating a self-fulfilling necessity for our presence. We blow the place up which creates new terrorist cells. So we blow the place up again which creates new terrorist cells. So we blow the place up again. I'm sure companies like Haliburton and our countless weapons suppliers LOVE this business model, but the way I see it, it isn't solving any problems.

If only they would bomb them until they existed no more.
Sure some civs will be killed and there will be collateral damage but we need to be rid of these destructive primitive idiots once and for all.
IS kill civs & the allied forces have killed civs also, so it was going to happen anyway.......................
But wait a min......is it possible that TPTB have taken what was useful/interesting already from these sites?
Maybe that's why there seems to be little progress in ridding the world of IS.
Just a thought.

Because apparently they aren't taking care of their own problems. ISIS is running rampant in that region.
