Genetic link to autism

A Medical Research Council study involving twins has suggested that genetics play a part in 74% to 98% of cases.

Environmental influences are not ruled out completely though.

trouble with autism is that the spectrum is so broad narrowing it down is virtually impossible. I see a lot of natural introverts that are labeled autistic. I had an uncle that was very quiet, very intelligent, and soft spoken. he didnt say much. I have no doubt he would be labeled with autism in this new age. its easy just too pick out a few characteristics on the spectrum and throw a label on people. kind of like a form of lazy diagnoses. give them a label and prescribe a generic treatment.

I am sure a lot of members here could be labeled with all sorts of things. in the end all variations and differences between people come from two areas...internal (genetic) and or external (environmental). even intelligence is both.

So some study that comes out saying autism is or can be both genetic and environmental is not really saying much LOL. yeah, sharp as a tac those researchers are! its like some grand announcement that smoking and junk food can lead to health problems.... no kidding.

I wonder why the Amish have such a low autism rate.....It really makes me questions things. Also why the sudden rise in cases and the trend is rising.....Why.




Personally I think something external is causing this.

because instead of diagnosing learning disabilities its easier to just throw them into a spectrum of disorders and call it autism. So instead of parents dealing with specific problems they just get a nice label for their kids to be thrown under in order to get government assistance. If your really interested in all this just follow the money. massive amounts of scam going on with diagnosis, treatment, assistance etc. etc. seems like everyone has their hands in the cookie jar on this. Believe it or not there are a lot of parents trying really really hard to get their kids diagnosed with this when there is nothing wrong with them.

The definition of autism has increased so more people are diagnosed with it.
Before they may have just been labeled retarded or crazy so now they can be treated the right way.
Just to add autism isn't a death sentance for anyone who has the condition look at the people who are in the Spectrum.

As many know I work with people who have autism and to me it is just a different way of life.

Autism in public schools rate........1997 = 50,000...........2009 = 350,000. Ya stable......Also I have these two things on the front of my face that allow me to see simple truths.



Autism is becoming a normal common thing unlike 30 years ago.

Yup because the word wasn't invented yet, like I have said the spectrum has broadened so more people are diagnosed with it.
The same amount of people have always had it but we are getting better at diagnosing it.
Not very hard when you think about it.
Broader definition = more people diagnosed.

You have no idea what is causing it so please stop putting your personal truth forward as fact. Bottom line we have no idea what is causing it. It could be the water for all we know.

good article. they need to go back diagnosing kids with language disorders and other more specific labels IMO. parents and children would be much better off. autism just freaks people out and make people think these kids are some unknown when a great many of the cases are simple language disorders.

But hey...its easier to get money and funding when people start screaming autism, autism its an epidemic!

start saying things like....they cant process emotions correctly. Hell, i would say 90% of the population cant process emotions correctly. throw a language disorder in there and ....they are autistic!!!!

We have kind of gotten to a point with things like this are just remarketed as new and strange things. shuffle things around....throw a new name on it....and start shouting for money to study it because its an emergency....an epidemic.

I went to school in the 1990s and ya autism was around, I am not 100 years old. It is rising and will continue to do so until we figure out why.

Yep but the fact remains Autism is rising and the Amish have a much lower rate. We should be studying why this is happening. I wonder is the Amish use GMO seeds....Hmm.

It only appear to be on the rise because more people are put in the broader spectrum of autism.
