Are children happy to think Santa is real?

Why destroy that illusion?

Why foster it in the first place? Worst crisis for kids ever imagined. But designed that way, imo.

Sorry...no, no, no. YOU control the distribution of this information…only you.

Then share it. Why the hell not?

Like Platos Cave, the Matrix and all. It would be selfish otherwise, not waking people up.

I don't know Plato's Cave...but on the Matrix, the people weren't happy, they were slaves or batteries. These are happy people that probably love God above most everything else. You would be pulling a huge carpet out from under their feet.

Does that mean you would never tell children the truth about Santa?

OK...I'm not suggesting anyone here is would do this for a personal agenda...but...are any of you who would tell these people God doesn't exist, would you be doing it for their benefit or your own reasons? Or does that matter?

As a humanist, I would have to (continue) to tell people to value humans above memes.

complete and utter sacrilege... repent you evil humanist

I think children will always find out. I think we as adults believe in a lot of things that aren't real. I grew up loving the idea of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, etc. I think the world is a little less magical if you prove these things to be irrefutably false. I would rather live not knowing the truth in some cases, than know a truth that takes something pleasurable away from me. I know people who are ugly that act and believe they are beautiful. I think that is great. I'm not going to change their fantasy to prove a reality. Not if that makes them happy.

Who benefits from the truth?

Only those whom it makes better. Those who lose something may be made worse and therefore...don't benefit.

Would you tell to the North Korean people that their dear leaders are not Gods ? Answer this in your mind..

There will be people who are not ready for the information, the question is " Do you force the information or offer it ? "

You didn't actually answer my question.

Would you have children grow into adults believing Santa is real and probably go on that way for the rest of their life?

You gave a hypothetical I am sure you can answer this one.

Yes...I would. But I would only do so because they are being hurt by this belief. They are hungry, have little freedom, etc. I would tell the middle east to end war and I would tell someone who is hurting themselves because of their belief. But I don't think I would tell anyone who is completely happy with their belief. See my "ugly" comment a post or two back.

If I didn't believe in God or some kind of accountability I wouldn't have to worry about the rules anymore. Time to go all gangster on the world. Who cares if I get killed doing crime? Who cares who you hurt? Everything becomes meaningless.

Would I tell people the truth? Sure, life is pointless anyway who cares who the truth hurts if God doesn't exist. I'm going nuts!

In another thread you said people who don't believe in a hereafter should kill themselves and get it over with because nothing matters and now you are saying you would party like a gangster.

You are not very consistent except in your negativity.

No...I would not. I wouldn't tell them to believe in Santa to begin with. But in my question, a person can continue believing in God forever. With Santa, they would find out as soon as the presents stop coming.

So let me ask you this. Would you have wanted to be told Santa didn't exist if by NOT knowing you continued to receive presents until you die? Would you, if you kept getting something FROM the belief until death, would you rather not and know Santa doesn't exist? I may go for the presents

You are pointing out for individuals, for individuals its still free will, if or not they believe but civilization as a whole should know the thruth. If the information is out its up to who choose to believe it.

I am glad for not believing in a falsehood it facilitated me growing up and moving on to better things.

Society can do the same.

Hmmm...I didn't realize you found me negative. I don't remember making any such statement unless it is taken out of context by your quote. Care to point me to that comment? I can only imagine saying that as quoted if the person in question was hurting others as a result of their disbelief. Please provide me with a link.

I'm very consistent. If God doesn't exist then life is meaningless. The only question becomes do I kill myself straight away or take a bunch of you with me. No consequences...all bets are off without God.

However, I do believe in God, accountability and a meaningful life.
