Excellently scribed OP...

One of my all time favourite reads on ATS.

That last line... Perfection!

Don't make the mistake of thinking the OP is your friend. They'll get around to you as soon as they take care of us. They hate ALL religion.

I love how people think that this thread just being here, is somehow anti-Christian.

Like they've forgotten that these people have created their own anti-christian list. Which in itself is intolerant and bit hateful.

There's a reason the church is suffering so much these days. And that's because they've been clinging to an outdated ideology. Most people realize that following three thousand year old doctrine, word for word is silly.

So they cherry pick what they like and what they don't. In doing so, really make the whole exercise worthless, since I can, by myself, without some mystery man in the sky, decide that everything that's GOOD in the bible, is just common sense.

I don't require the fear, or love of god, to be a good person.

I hate religion charlie knows this and charlie knows I would love to have a pint with him one day because we would get along.
Charlie knows that many here just don't want to be preached at and tbh he doesn't, If many here on ATS kept their religious views in the home or church and stopped attempting to distort facts with their brand of religion we wouldn't have a problem.
I have not seen charlie make up threads with blatent lies in to attempt to disprove evolution but I see many christians doing so everyday on ATS and even when shown they are wrong they don't come in and hold their hands up and say "sorry I was wrong" like any normal decent person would...

Nope.

My beliefs require no human given rights be afforded to me, in order that I continue to hold that faith. I need no permission from my fellow human beings to believe as I will, I need no protection from the government, nor any statute of its concoction in order to hold my faith. I will say Jesus is Lord whether it becomes illegal or not.

People who have trod this path I am on before me, have done so despite much harsher conditions than the imposition of equality on the nations in which they lived. I fear nothing that mankind can throw at me, because the worst that it can do is kill my flesh. It has no mastery over my soul, and I respect and understand that well enough to be firm, and confident in my faith, not fear based, quaking in my boots.

Fear is for those who do not have Jesus at their side. For those of us who believe, and know what it is to believe, and understand the entire history of our faith, are not concerned with such trifling matters, as what the law says about their right to worship, to practice the fullness of their faith. They do what they do, no matter what impediment might have been placed before them, or die trying.

I am happy with my lot, for all that.

Oh, please! You are just displaying why a group would label these orgs you clearly agree with as anti-Christian. You are a prime example.

Don't shoot the messenger, Ketsuko. I merely presented what was already written in the article from my OP, in my own words, as per the T&C's.

The map is sort of a reverse take on the Southern Poverty Law Center's annual list of hate groups. The AFA has been among the 939 groups included on that list, with the SPLC pointing to its anti-LGBT activity.

You personal faith yes.

But when you are raising a family. It becomes important to know these things. A parent has a right to do what he or she feels is best, and this is a difficult thing to do without knowing what kind of world you are operating in.

Maybe you don't have family in terms of children you are responsible for trying to raise responsibly, but it gets a lot harder then and the laissez faire attitude becomes a lot less reasonable at times when that happens.

So you just want every religious person to admit you and Charlie are correct and say I'm sorry i had a differing opinion I'm an atheist now, down with religion!

The problem is people on both side don't know how to accept that people all around the world have different views and experiences and yes some people are religious.... maybe if both sides showed some respect for each other. just maybe, we could have healthy debates on ATS.

And believe it or not there is an anti religion movement happening why do you find this offensive? I'm sure atheist organizations have list of churches that they don't agree with, would we hold them to the same standard?

I wasn't talking about you.

However, it is entirely possible to like someone and still undermine them in ways that are fundamentally important to them. Do you deny that?

I have a son.

I am in the process of helping raise him up to adulthood, and I would hope to instill in him the same understanding of his faith, a steadfast understanding of his faith, with full knowledge of what that could mean in time to come, but without fear of consequence, despite an awareness of the possibility of consequences existing, just the same as our ancestors had, just the same as the first Christians had, and nothing like you will find in the Churches run by those who produce nonsense like this map.

I can accept any religion as long as it doesn't attempt to get into Government or school classes. but it doesn't.
I have people knocking on my door every other week attempting to tell me that I need to be saved, I have had people tell me I will goto hell for not accepting Jesus (on ATS also).
It isn't the atheists or the none theists who started all this it is the religious attempting to make people join their club.
Charlie is a Muslim, to be honest I have no problem with Muslims in my area (a big Muslim population) because they don't tell me at the first opportunity that I'm heading for hell etc.
Should I respect people who lie and make fraudulent claims about evolution? who attempt to dumb down the upcoming generations?.
No not in my book.

I hear this from so many people from the UK about being harassed by Christians. I live in the southern US, the bible belt, and I only get the occasional Jehovah witness. Maybe we should start calling the UK the bible belt?

I know. I have a Jehovah's Kingdom Hall right down the road from me, and I think I come home and have some tracts stuck in my door once every three or four months at most.

You all must have rabid JWs over there. Either that or you all must be rabidly anti-faith or much less laid back about this stuff than we are over here.

Wait... why isn't the AFA on this map too? Christianity is supposed to be all about "love thy neighbor" isn't it? You know... tolerance toward others... so why isn't this intolerant organization part of their own bigotry map?

The irony is strong in these people.

Don't worry. They're on the SPL's map. That is part of the irony here.

People can hate my religion all they like.

The only time that will affect me is when they forcibly try to stop me from believing what I do.

Only then will I react to the hatred in a manner that is warranted.

Until then, I'll just try to educate here and there...
Clear up misconceptions...
& bury the myths that are espoused...

The difference is that SPL is about equal rights, the AFA tries to deny them equal rights. I don't see the SPL saying that Christians should have less rights than others, but I do see the AFA saying that about gays and lesbians.
