You took his post the wrong way. He is not saying that it's sometimes ok to smash for any reason. His point was that the ISIS misinterpreted Muhammad's action and command as to destroy any statues that do not reflect their religion.

Maybe you can quote exactly where and when I said exactly that...

Or better yet... Seeing as you can't...

Just don't make stuff up in an attempt at baiting someone into response.

Thank you for understanding.

I'll break it down...

Muhammad preached the message...
The Arabians tried to diminish his efforts with many strategies...
They also tried to force their paganism in Mecca onto him and his followers...
He reacted in kind by destroying the statues they worshipped due to the Idolatry corrupting the Land...

Now in comparison to ISIS...
Who are not being forced into anything by anybody...
Who are smashing statues that are not idolised by anybody, but have a historical and educational value which ISIS frown upon for a number of reasons...

That, is why I have stated that the message was twisted for their own narrative.

Then, by that logic, since Egyptian churches are being burned as we speak, it would be OK to burn mosques ?

ketsudo: They do this wherever radical Islam takes hold. Remember the Buddhas in Afghanistan? The Sufi tombs in Africa? They don't see it as preserving history and heritage. It's a form of idolatry so it must all be destroyed.

Stormdancer777: I remember, this makes me crazy, I am freaking out right now.
I spent so much time studying this ancient history, it is sacred to me in a sense.

InverseLookingGlass: I'm a Humanist and these actions are deeply offensive to me. Islam seeks to smother all traces of Human free will. Even imprints of free will from the past. All of it.

That is about the crux of it; YET THEY are exercising 'free will' to destroy "by their interpretation of Allah's word" priceless works of antiquity. If they ever got close to Cairo, they would also destroy the Giza Plateau, and other sites as well. Sickening; just horrific (these were sacred artifacts of a brilliant civilization). I'm sure Egyptian ears are now "pricked up" as to how far these inhuman beasts will go.

I do believe that's what's called a straw man argument.

Everybody always asks "Where are the moderate Muslims?" Try not to assign blame for the nutbar mutants when a normal regular follower of Islam speaks up. Lest we blame you for Westboro Baptist, eh?

Possibly, but remember the Morsi government had it's problems with it's internal Salafists and jihadis calling for the destruction of the pyramids as far back as 2011.

The pyramids represent a big, glowing beacon of paganism and if they can, they will destroy them. We can only hope that Egypt's government holds firm.

Certainly; if you are not abiding by Sharia Law, or Jihadist, or of the Caliphate; you are not practicing this insane form of Islam; all bets are off for the 'everyday' minding my own business (saying my prayers and reading the Koran faithfully) moderate Muslim (they are not safe).

If you feel that is necassary, go ahead.

I was merely pointing out the chasm between what Muhammad did...

& what ISIS are doing...

The Assyrians were also pagan; it seems any artifacts recovered from any ancient civilization (NOT REMOTELY ISLAMIC) are OFFENSIVE to their ideology and fair game to be destroyed; gain access to Lebanon and destroy the ancient city of 'Petra'? What is the reasoning here, where does it stop? Current civilizations LIVING are at an even greater risk as we actually (to their warped vision) worship in idolatry Big Ben, Tower of London, Washington Monument, Mount Rushmore etc...I wonder what Pope Frances is thinking now; regarding what Vatican City might represent to a group of insane individuals that appear to be well organized?

Depending on where you live it is illegal to burn down any structure that isnt yours, its called Arson.

Now maybe you can go to Syria and burn down a Mosque but when the dust settles on this war you will be brought to justice. Just like these people will, especially the ones with their uncovered faces.

Not saying it isnt happening but Daily Mail thrives on misreporting stuff to make people angry. Perhaps they are just renovating it?

They are destroying the tombs of people who are widely held to be prophets in their own belief structure, so I would say that anything that represents the belief system of another culture is fair game.

They might not destroy the Vatican and the great cathedrals but they may become mosques. The ancient writings and other cultural treasures I would worry about.

I don't know anyone who worships Big Ben or the Tower of London...

People see them as fantastic architectural design...
Wonderful human innovation...

But I don't know anyone who worships them as gods.

Nah it's definitely being portrayed as it is.

Found a few ISIS accounts on Twitter today and they're saying it was done for Shirk (comparing another to Allah)!

Daily Mail is mostly useless, but they're just the messenger this time... No point in shooting them.

Since Islam fundamentally came in to existence around 630 A.D., does that mean every relic before and after that is NOT Islamic or not deemed the "right kind of Islam"...open game?

These guys truly think they run the world now, and I think it's time the world shows them the door.

Would ISIS see a difference at all? Its an actual edifice built by others of a different 'faith' that is 'cherished' is all. How far will they take this; they want to destroy all evidence of Western culture; what is the most obvious (a western city skyline) and in particular landmarks existing within, right out of the Al Qaeda playbook.

I'm not naive at all.

ISIS probably do have many wet dreams about that sort of thing...

Too bad for them that they'll never make it out of Iraq & Syria to even attempt it...
Or are you that naive?

Radicalized Islamic NAZI's. They say their war is against western 'infidels', but they are as much wanting to conform/indoctrinate moderate Muslims to their ideology. Sell all of the females into sexual slavery, kill the adult men and send the remaining male children to "ISIS Boy Scout terrorist training camps".
