The deal includes:

Ceasefire to begin on 15 Feb
Heavy weapons to be pulled out
All prisoners to be released
Mr Poroshenko said Ukraine would establish control of international border by the end of the year

Ukraine crisis: Leaders agree peace roadmap

This is good news, if it holds.

No mention of the detail, including for example the Russian demand that their "ownership" of Crimea is confirmed, orthe Ukrainian demand that the separatists were disarmed.

Regardless, this is good news.

Some background which may have helped Putin and others

I was reading on ATS how some people are reading US mainstream where they are saying Putin is folding and had no choice

Completely ignoring what the whole world is watching for the last week and a half

But I guess some people get their news from NBC and so forth

Perhaps its the best way for the east to submit, insteading of loosing more innocent lives in the conflict.
Putting democratic pressure on the newly formed government would the next step.

I'll answer here too.
I ask when the news of the cease-fire broke on fox. I was on US sending 600 para-trooper thread.
With all that was going on up to now.

Only I ask the question.. just me. If Putin was folding. No news outlet here even suggested it.
I was not aware of the talks.. that Germany and France seemed to have got started.
This is still good news for the moment.

Doesn't matter.
I don't care.
Let them believe what they want.
Celebrate!
This was a much closer call than most realize...

Peace!

... for now.

Well I'm sick of seeing the online fighting on ats over the ukraine. Never has one subject been so alienating to the neutral. So I see this as a move in the right direction, which I'm sure will be seen as picking sides, by some

Good news indeed

the sad part is, that is basically the treaty from 6 month ago. I hope this time around the peace can hold for longer. Maybe an UN Peacekeeping Mission should be commenced so the wounds between the two sides can heal better and further talks can be held in a more peaceful environment.

Well there looks like some progress was made to have some peace at last. Won't know the full extent until the 15th. Can't imagine that this will be plastered all over the American msm, something will be blown out of proportion to distract from the peace talks eg another black v white issue or police brutality case....

Just looked for you. It's on CNN and Fox in BIG letters. So yes, it is being covered by MSM in the US.

My thoughts exactly. I don't see any significant resolution in the details we have heard so far. The big question is will the US start arming Ukraine. Putin talked to Obama Wednesday morning just prior to the Minsk negotiations so who knows what was agreed.

I fully expect Ukraine to continue training forces with US assistance. I expect Obama will hold off on sending weapons while getting some allies to quietly send some for him like Lithuania, Canada or Poland. I have no doubt the rebels will continue efforts to gain strategic points they have yet to get control over.

Ultimately I haven't heard any details that lead me to believe a lasting peace has been established. Putin is just cooling the situation to avoid bigger costs but won't even slow down his support of the rebels.

The really sad part is that IMF-Queen Lagarde gave the green light for the first 15,5 billion €uro (of estimated 40+ billion) "aid package"

... mere SECONDS after the agreement ensured that the gas-extraction-rights (for Chevron, Shell, ExxonMobile & Burisma) in the eastern Kharkiv and Donetsk Oblast aren't going to waste.

Investment secured

Now back to wörk!! Gotta earn their moneys...

Great news.

But even with peace, is still can go bad with different fractions not trusting each other.

I have read several who predict Ukraine to fall apart after a short period in case of peace, so still keep your eyes on it, we are no way out of the woods yet...but it`s something.

50 more Russian tanks and 40 more missile artillery crossed over into Ukraine during the 'peace' negotiations in Minsk.

www.businessinsider.com...

Ah, not generally needed for a real peace plan. I hope people aren't getting their hopes up.
