Not sure if this belongs here or in World War 3 thread, mods move if it belongs elsewhere.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is asking Congress to formally authorize war against Islamic State militants and says the group could threaten the U.S. homeland if left unchecked. The president is sending Congress a proposed three-page resolution on Wednesday to authorize military force. In a letter to lawmakers accompanying the request, Obama urges them to "show the world we are united in our resolve to counter the threat." Obama's resolution and letter were provided to The Associated Press. He plans to speak on his request from the White House Wednesday afternoon. Obama would limit authorization to three years, with no restriction where U.S. forces could pursue the threat. Obama's proposal bans "enduring offensive combat operations," an ambiguous term intended as compromise between lawmakers who want authority for ground troops and those who don't.

I originally found this on reddit here

But here are a few more sources

Letter from the President

Obama sends Congress request for military force against IS

Senate Democrats want tougher restrictions on ground troops, while some Republicans want fewer.

I'm not sure how this will turn out for you guys across the pond, or what the implications of this will be if passed in your Congress, but be safe.

It means we're screwed. I love how he considers them a threat if it fits his agenda, if it doesn't they're just misled. So it's what now, the 500th promise broken? More war, more American blood. Got it.

Here is another article from Politico Politico - Obama Proposal for War on Isis

Which says they are proposing a 3-year limit so that the war doesn't drag on. Greatttt, thanks so much for thinking ahead. Trying to minimize it so people will approve (not that it matters anyway)

I don't know how to answer that, I'm not too familiar with your Congress, living in the UK.

It sure doesn't sound good though, sounds like an excuse for.... Marshall law?

This is exactly what the Islamic State wants, they want a war with America and the west and here we are giving them exactly what they want.

In order to stop the brutality we have to stop responding to it.

This statement is the best reply I have seen on this site in a while... Sad and true in all forms. Nuthin says WAR like a Banker! They're calling the shots and when the world bank tells you to do something you better listen up.

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Watching this video of ISIS threatening Obama to cut off his head in the white house (before soldier is beheaded - not shown in video) I wouldn't be surprised America is going to war. If you were president and you were threatened...what would you do?

So would you have rather him not get approval again??

I'm sure that the people have lost whatever choices they have in the matter. World banks decide which conflicts take place. They seem to have the nasty habit of actually financing both sides of all conflicts one way or another, World War One a good example. Which conflict is worthy of their attention depends on the return of investment in the conflict.. President Clinton didn't intervene in the war/genocide in Africa as the return on investment to the world banks couldn't be determined in any possible worth.

If your a world leader the only war you can afford is a war you can get a loan for... And yes it must stop.

Now thats one ISIS video I'd like to see, maybe they could do Cameron and his cabinet in Westminster when they are done stateside?

Our governments have done far, far worse for reasons more heinous than ISIS have ever done. Now I am in no way sympathizing, condoning or supporting ISIS, they are a bunch of deranged lunatics and I do agree they need to be stopped if any of the propaganda we are told is true. But they are the lesser of the evils as far as I am concerned. I do not fear ISIS. I fear my own government who are ruining mine and countless others lives for profit and twisted perversions.

Don't be fooled for one second that the government does ANYTHING for our benefit. They do it all for their own. They do what their sponsors pay them to. Any "freedoms" and "liberties" we are made to believe we have are nothing more than lies to keep us under control. They are systematically pulling them all from under our feet in the UK. There will be none left soon.

Sorry if I sound ignorant, I'm from the UK too but do you have any links for this information?

Although I agree with you I also disagree with you. Right now there are girls being raped and people murdered in ISIS territory.

Right now our government isn't doing that. I would like to see ISIS stopped.

Its off-topic, if you go into the regional politics section there are loads in there. Ever since Cameron enacted his austerity drive to cover the deficit caused by the banksters, he has robbed the vulnerable and hard-working while giving the spoils to the already excessively rich. Also watch the latest NLBS video.

Oh so once ISIS threatens Michelle and the kids YESTERDAY ( news.sky.com... ), we need to declare war all of a sudden? It was fine when they were beheading others but once the threat is his family, war is on?? What a joke....More boots on the ground, just what we need!
