Israeli Captain "Right to shoot 13 yr old Girl"

The Southern Command court on Tuesday acquitted Israel Defense Forces Captain "R" of all charges relating to the killing of a Palestinian girl in the Gaza Strip in October 2004.

He was accused of shooting Palestinian school girl Iyman al-Hams, 13, at point blank range and "verifying the kill" outside the Girit outpost near Rafah.

This has been the initial probe and the officer's version of events, in the early morning hours of October 5, 2005:

• The IDF soldiers spotted "someone" carrying a bag in a closed military zone, an area off-limits to Palestinians near Rafah.
  
  
• Suspecting the bag might contain a bomb and taking into account that hours earlier shots were fired at the post, soldiers shot the figure. They then closed in, discovering the girl.
  
  
• The officer was accused of "verifying the kill" a term used when bullets are pumped into a body to ensure that an armed and dangerous suspect is dead.
  

In Februar 2005 the witnesses (Givati Brigade soldiers from R's company), admitted to the court that they had lied in an effort the cause the ousting of R from the company.

Defense attorneys also maintained that what appeared to be "confirmation" of the girl's death by R was, in fact, a known IDF practice employed to eliminate immediate threats.

The judges not only harshly criticized the military police probe, calling it amateurish but also criticized the media, accusing it of being quick to judge the officer's fate before the court trial had been concluded.

Sorry to burst the bubble of those may think this is right. One must always remember that God is the only true judge and the person who shot her should be put forth in front of a panal of his peers and come up with a punishment befitting of this murder. Do't stone him or kill him because that is going down to their level. He should perhaps be made to pay the family of the little girl a regular sum each week or month forcing him to think of what he had done. The mind is the most intriguing organ in our possesion and never forgets what it sees or does. Making this killer relive his crime every month or week will do more that sticks or stones.

remove "Israeli" and "Palestinian" from this story and I guarantee U would have a different verdict.

A grown man killing a young girl like that is appalling, to say the very least.
It's still murder, maybe they should have tried him for just that, is that not enough ?

There is a "look" for terrorists?
Are they getting thier fashion from vogue or some middle eastern equivilant of the paris companies?

Reminds of that a similar incident, when an Isreali Soldiers war REPEATINGLY Raping his OWN Cousin - and got like 3 Months of Community Service! HELLO?!?! i agree that if anyone is within a security perimeter they are a potential threat and must be handled in any way necessary. even if it happens to be a small child. that is the parents fault for not keeping their kids out of trouble. everyone knows women and children can attack troops. these troops just want to go home to their families. they cannot take the risk of some kid destroying their life.

this is so teribbley sad.......our world isnt going to ever be rid of evil.....this isnt a situation governed by combat regulations, simply just another expression of evil in a pure form.

Someone will judge....and may they be pityless when they do.

Now how could the Arabs hate Israelis when the situation was simple.

Trained, equipped soldiers carrying rifles who were afraid that a 13 year old girl who was 100 yards away and running AWAY from them could be a THREAT to them. So they shot her, and then got closer to her in order to pump some more bullets into her to make sure she was dead. And then left her there to rot in the sun.


How could that possibly be misconstrued as anything but total self defense, right? How could that inflame anti-Israeli sentiment?

I am shocked and disgusted that anyone would try to justify this as anything but murder. It's this kind of thing that makes people all over the world more sympathetic to the Palestinians and makes them believe that the Israelis are bad, bad people.

I tend to agree with them. We are talking about a high powered rifle fired by a military trained soldier who carefully aims and fires a bullet into the body of a 13 year old child.

Because they are afraid of her. Because they are cowards. Because they are murderous scum. Because they like to kill.


Those involved deserve to be charged and sent to, hmmm, Abu Ghraib.
